Post by Dusk on Dec 21, 2011 19:04:19 GMT -5
Greetings as well, everyone! My name is Dusk, though some of you may know me as Squirrelly, a toon squirrel, from many of Mu*. I've been on the mucks since 1994. You may also know me by a lot of my MUF code around the mu*s (meetme, teleport, movie, arrive_notify, summon, the updated version of action.muf (hug and such), etc.). I've been a big fan of good cartoons since Tiny Toons, when I no longer saw them as just random things to watch, but became a fan. That lead to usenet groups, which lead to FurryMUCK, which lead to furry fandom in general. And my best friend going back to the early Tiny Toons days is the one that introduced me to the new MLP. The shows were great, but actually what helped really hook me was the show's two way relation with the fans. That helped impress me that much more. And it was that same friend, known to you here as Surprise, that said it'd be great to have me here and to help out with the place, which sounded great to me as well! Dusk is an OC of mine, and actually goes back nearly as far as Squirrelly, but only exists (until now) on a Muck called Unbridled Desires. So when I decided to join here I needed to decide who I wanted to be. I'm Squirrelly virtually everywhere. But this is MLP. I could stay my old self -- I don't think Fluttershy would mind having another squirrel about. But I felt a pony would be much better. I originally was thinking of making a ponified version of Squirrelly, like I've seen so many others do with their other fursonas. But then I remembered Dusk! He would make a great pony character. So with just a little tweaking, he became a pony unicorn (since coding is pretty much a magic thing) with a new cutie mark to go. Characterwise, I've written up a detailed initial background for Dusk, but may undergo some redoing. But the basics / short version so far: Dusk grew up in Canterlot, born and raised in the high class life. But he had a much deeper interest in the workings of magic. Not just the acts of magic they taught in classes, but what made it work at all. That lead him to studying of arcane books on his own, and that lead to an act that affected nearly all of Canterlot, if briefly.
He left Canterlot, sure that he would be in trouble and unable to learn the things he wanted. He traveled quite far and wide, and indeed learned with a much deeper understanding than he had before. And maybe a little less dangerous. Well, he was more careful at least.
But those travels have brought him back around to Canterlot, or at least as far as Ponyville. His studies and practices have lead him to see there are forces and events focusing there, and he would be amiss to ignore it. Even if he has to risk trouble for his past. Perhaps in Ponyville though, he will be fine.
He does practice quite a variety of magic. But of a different bent than other unicorns. Being almost entirely self-taught away from the schools of Canterlot, and with his passion for a deeper understanding of magic, his magic works on a more fundamental level. Often changing the very way things work, altering some element of reality, or changing things on scales that wouldn't normally seem possible. But at the same time, those are things he doesn't do lightly. He learned his lesson the hard way before.
For example though, of the more common magic ponies are more likely to first notice with him, is should he happen to teleport. But he does not "pop" in and out. Ponies just notice that he is there, or not there anymore. How long was he standing there? When did he leave? You just must not have been paying attention.
And Fluttershy came up with the term "theoretical magician" which I think fits quite well!
So it's great meeting you all, and looking forward to playing and to helping improve the Muck as well! See ya's there!

Serpents and spiders, tail of a rat, Call in the spirits, wherever they're at.I don't usually do character intros, but, Nettleglum seems to be developing a mind of her own and I suspect I'd best put something down in writing before she seizes control all together. Nettleglum-- or 'Nettie', as she prefers to be called-- comes from what might charitably be described as a weird family of ponies. You see, a thousand years ago, they were proud members of Princess Luna's court, trusted hoofmaidens, courtiers, and confidants. Then when Luna rebelled and was banished to the moon, they took the loss rather hard. Blaming Celestia for usurping the night, they retreated from the day, turned their backs on sunshine, flowers, and bright things, becoming more at home with things most ponies dread. For a thousand years their family became more eccentric, dare we say creepy and kookie, mysterious and ookie. Today, the family is scattered about Equestria, lurking in odd corners, unexpected basements, and desolate places no sane pony would be caught wandering in. Though they keep to themselves, they're not malicious, nor evil, simply very, very odd and macabre. Nettleglum is a young mare who came to Ponyville after hearing the news that the Princess of the Night was free of her imprisonment and was in the vicinity, in the hopes of confirming this for her family. The best description for her is sort of a pony Wednesday Addams-- not goth in the modern, mopey, 'the world is desolate' sense, but a pony who has spent her whole life in creaky old houses and swamps and dark places. Dark and eerie are as normal to her as bright, happy picnics and cheery balloons are for most pony folk. The anti-Pinkie, as it were. This is not to say she isn't, at heart, a very nice pony in her own strange way. Generous, polite, and happy to help-- provided you take into account her skewed world view. The vibe isn't modern goth or horror, it's the innocent 'monster next door' of the 1950's, the Addam's Family (original B&W TV show) or the Munsters. Nettie's talent (aside from generating immense random creepiness) is reflected in her cutie mark, a tangle of thorned brambles on her flank-- an amazing skill with dangerous and strange plants, things most ponies would have nothing to do with. She's an indifferent gardener when it comes to normal plants like flowers or ordinary vegetables (she can keep them alive, but has no particular touch with them), but has an innate understanding of things with grasping vines, stinging nettles, sharp thorns, and dangerous appetites. She has a lovely giant flytrap (about the size of Spike, all told) by the name of 'Chas', which is her darling and pet, rather spoiled on sweets and candies. Since moving to Ponyville, Nettie has taken up residence in an abandoned farmstead known as Fallfallow Place, on the edge of the Everfree, and has become the first one in her family in a thousand years to enter the service of Princess Luna again, acting as the steward of her ruined castle in the forest and the gardener of Luna's Cave of Night, home to many strange plants that cannot bear sunlight. This is a somewhat acceptable portrait of Nettleglum, or at least as close as I can come with that particular pony-creator and no drawing talent myself. Attachments:

Post by Clockwork on Dec 24, 2011 16:03:04 GMT -5
Um. Well, I guess this might be a good idea. I play as 'Clockwork' on the MU, who I will talk about in a moment. As for me, I've been on MUs for less than 10 years so kind of... a rookie compared to a lot of people. I started with, and have only ever really been consistently on, Redwall MUCK and have played a lot of characters there but I don't think I can call any of them 'notable' at all. I kind of like to 'build', at least on a couple of the MUs I'm currently on, but I don't always have the confidence to desc' or show off my work. Confidence is something I lack, even in an online setting. I know people say the internet is easier because it doesn't feel like anyone is judging you, or because it's anonymous, but my social anxiety treats it the same as any other setting. Please, if I don't talk, don't be offended; I'm probably there, lurking, too shy to say anything or believing that I have nothing interesting enough to offer to the current conversation/topic. I do love to rp, though my lack of confidence can really hold me back from joining in or starting a scene- often I might be found just watching; though of course, being in a UK timezone can also prevent me from joining in when an RP is starting (for me) at a late hour. I don't think I'm a good writer, as can be told from this post, but I love to watch people rping and I do enjoy seeing how well others write. Writing very much interests me, despite my lack of skill in it. *** As for my character; Clockwork is a pony who is fascinated with the little details of devices. Clocks, toys, gears and so many gadgets and mechanisms. The sizes of these things don't matter, but she's more often to be found working with the small. As a unicorn, she mostly uses her magic to tinker and play with things. Mechanisms with gears hold the most interest for her, and her cutiemark (a gear) reflects this. It's possible that she was always fascinated by such things; her name certainly came before her mark. She grew up, and was educated, within Canterlot, however she never really picked up the idea of 'being social'. Such a thing, despite somehow acquiring a friend or two, seemed such a difficult and strange concept. One of her friends, Starscape, came on behalf of her cousin Springload; the two had met during education and the three ended up spending their time together. Eventually. Clockwork choose to come to Ponyville to set up shop; she loved the idea of fixing toys and clocks while being in a place that was quiet and 'pokey' enough for her play as she wished. Ponyville has proven to be a little more rowdy than she envisioned, but she'd admit that it is no bad thing. She has met ponies, a friend even, after offering her services to repair an item or two and has enjoyed company despite not understanding it. Her friend Starscape has recently come to town and that has pried her to become somewhat more sociable... or at least to make more of an effort at trying to be so. Currently Starscape and Clockwork are housemates and, for Starscape's passion of astronomy, Clockwork has agreed to an observatory upon the top of their dwelling. It wasn't hard to persuade her at all, with the idea of such a fun gadget and projects like a sliding roof mechanism to drool over and over-elaborate on. Clockwork enjoys sweets (and playing with her food), tinkering with things and learning; she can often be found venturing to Sugarcube Corner, poking around the library or shopping for parts. I do have a picture of her, but it is simply a modified image that was originally made with a 'pony maker'. I may try to draw her when I have more confidence in my skill there. Her desc: A yellowish cream-shaded unicorn with a rather wild mane of burnt orange. It's not so much that her mane is messy, it's that it's just been allowed to fall however it chooses for that day. Usually holding the fringe part back from in front of her eyes, at least, are a pair of brassy goggles; one goggle, slightly thicker and longer in frame, serves as magnification to the left of her green eyes. It's a little like a jewelers' loupe in a pair of goggles. She wears them down while she works, but usually they just hold her mane back. Her tail is the same shade as her mane and subject to the same lack of brushing. Her cutie mark shows a brassy gear adorning her flank.

Hello, I am sure some of you have read the introducory RP I posted, that makes this a bit easyer, if you have not, read it, helps. Desc will be changing, so I am not going to post it, in part cause she will end up growing up, and when an adult might look rather diferent than she does now. Personality shes a bit weird, most of her education came from books, she was not alowed to go to school after basicly kindergarden, and its only luck that she learned how to read that early. Ahh, probably should not be doing this at 7 am after being up all day, but what the hey rioght? So background. Her perents where minor nobility, aka, thay had a title, some land, and some money, not really rich, more like some of the moderately well off old familys in britian. Her perents died in an accsident, and she was made to go live with an ant and uncle, the relatives, so long as she was with them, got to use the title, and had there hooves into her inheritance. Now thay wanted the title for there own, to get it, thay had to wait tell she died, of old age, childless, or, untell she comitted suicide. So thay did what thay could to incurage her taking her own life. The only reason she did finnaly get free is that she jumped off the edge of Cloudsdale, without knowing how to fly, something that is in most all cases a death sentence. So now we have a filly, not much older than the Scootaloo from the show, who basicly behaves and acts like someone of about kindergarden age, yet, is older, and more knowlidgable than most who have left and started there own homes and lives. (Think ultimate bookworm) She has no clue of what her name was originaly, nore the names of her perents, or the realtives that abused her. Now, mostly I expect the background to be just that, and not to be relavent, but, it might happen that someone digs around enough and finds out who she was, if so, we will deal with it then.

Figure it was about time I posted something on here. I play NightRaven, an perhaps a few other' XD.
I've be on a game of some type since 1997 so I've been around for a while and have been on to many games to count! I've also done staffing and wizard type stuff in the past, along with helping with building and so forth.
A little about NightRaven, she is from Mt. HoofTop (yes I came up with it, but it sounds to me like it would be a real place on MLP!). Her family was rather different as her mother was a earth pony and her father a pegasus. She has an older brother and sister and a younger brother.
Raven has basicly had to grow up in her sister's shadow so to speak. Her sister is a flying ace and captain on the local weather team at Mt. Hooftop, an becasue of this her sister tends to rub it into Raven's face so to speak. This an a few other reasons, one rather tragic has sent NightRaven off to find a new place to call home, an perhaps make her own way if given the chance.
NightRaven tends to be quiet and shy, unless she seems something that needs a direct answer, or her friend needs help. She enjoys flying and is rather good at it, and once she made the local weather team her ability would shine more and prove she was very well choosen for the job.
Anything else you want to know just ask!

Post by Red Velvet on Jan 22, 2012 19:50:22 GMT -5
Red Velvet is a shrewd business mare, she worked hard to get where she is today. Many would think she was born into a life of privilege, But they would be mistaken. Her early years were spent in Manehatten, attending a school that while not high class, was somewhat above what her parents would normally be able to afford for their little filly. They had managed to scrape together enough bits through hard work and self-sacrifice to try to improve their foal's future. However On the first day of school Red was ashamed of the way she looked, most of the other fillies had their hair styled, and some were even allowed to wear make-up! Something her father would have frowned on. She tried to be invisible, but that was hard when the teacher called her up to the front of the class to say hello to her classmates and introduce her. A mean little filly named Glamour took note of her and started picking on her from that day forward.
Gradually the teasing and insults grew worse, until one day Red shoved the other filly. This was what Glamour had been waiting for, a chance to shame Red Velvet even more. Before Red knew what was happening Glamour had her mane between her teeth and was pulling it furiously. A crowd gathered as the two fillies toppled to the ground and began fighting right there in the schoolyard. A teacher soon intervened but the damage had already been done. It had been clear that Red Velvet had been losing, she was dirty, her mane and coat a mess, and she couldn't really hide the tears in her eyes. But as she and Glamour were taken to the principal's office she swore to herself she would pay Glamour back, and that she would never let herself get in that sort of situation again.
She was mistaken, throughout her school years she and the other filly had many more altercations, sometimes only with words, other times they actually fought with hooves. As they grew the two girls violent altercations gradually shifted to cutting remarks and social power plays. Each trying to upstage the other and make her rival look bad or foalish. Red Velvet is now an adult mare, her parents are proud of her, she has risen above where she started out in life, but the one unfortunate constant in her life is Glamour. The bully never really grew up. Only now the tension between the two of them has taken the form of who can upstage the other more, who is the most beautiful, the most poised, the most successful. So far it's a close thing, sometimes one mare will be a clear winner, and others her opponent will.
Sometimes they seem to come out dead even in their feuding, but one thing is clear, Red Velvet is trying to catch the eye of the two Royal Sisters. If she can get recognition from the royal family for her talents...then what could Glamour possibly hope to gain that would top that?
Red started as an interior designer for some of the clubs in Canterlot, but she eventually found her talented eye for presenting a pleasing location and/or event extended farther then she realized when her cutie mark appeared. Now she has expanded her reach to be a manager/spokespony/talent scout to many of Equestria's elite as well as the rising stars of Equestria. She has been known to handle the bookings for such stars as The Wonderbolts, and Sapphire Shores, as well as other big names, she has even been seen assisting the well known fashion mogul Photo Finish on some projects. All in all one thing can be said for Red Velvet...This unicorn is going places.

Hii! A few of you old timers (Hi, Mbala!) might remember me as Zinn from SPR MUCK, and some might know me as Zobeid from Furscape MUCK or from Second Life, or maybe even as Buckshot from FurryMUCK (where I'm a regular at the weekly Story Night). I was a founder of Furscape and have been a MUF wizard there ever since, along with a number of other jobs that I've taken along the way. I'm sure I'll get into some RP here, but also hoping I'll have the opportunity to contribute some MUF code to the environment. As for my new persona here...

This is a bit belated, but, I was thinking that there needs to be some species representation!
Ferrox is a griffon. Genrally, griffons go mostly unnoticed, save the occassional competition or even the periodic skirmish. However, there were a few more closely affiliated with their more numerous, terrestrial neighbors. The Eyrie of the Red Eye were griffons who worked closesly with ponies. Though militaristic, they had no particular beef with the wingless grass-eater. Instead, they earned income working as blacksmiths.
In the old days, when pony fought pony, the Red Eyes sold weapon and armor. When peace came, the weapons were set aside, but armor remained. In fact, the ancient armor of the royal guard had its fair share of griffon-made pieces and even some of the ceremonial vestments of the royals themselves. Of course, there were always the basics. Metalwork does have a wide variety of applications!
In time, however, as more ponies had time to themselves in those peaceful days, the needs of the griffons lessened. Magic and pony blacksmiths were more efficient and could create more goods more quickly - for the griffons were picky and meticulous and firmly believed in quality over quantity, and quality meant more expense. Eventually, fewer ponies came, and the Red Eye disappeared into the skies.
Lately, though, smoke has been seen rising from the old dragon cave in the Everfree forest. A griffon of great size has been spotted winging through the snow and storms over the forests and the cave, and those sharp of eye can discern a band about the wingcat's neck - iron with a single, gleaming ruby eye.

Hi, um. I guess maybe I should put something here. I just joined with Jack Hammer.
Jack Hammer comes from a long line of proud, hard-working Earth ponies. Although his brother, Trip, has gone into wheat farming, for the most part, the Hammers have specialized in building things, from houses to furniture (his Uncle Tack has a real knack for couches), since before anypony can remember. Jack has followed in the hoofsteps of his father, Sledge, and Uncle Claw by becoming a construction worker.
With the sturdy build of a draft pony, Jack is pretty suited to manual labor. He has a tan coat and brown mane and tail, both of which he keeps cropped. He also manages to sport a five o’clock shadow no matter what time of day it is. When on the job, he can be seen wearing a hardhat, orange safety vest, and a toolbelt. His cutie mark is a hammer and nails.
He is very much a pony that believes actions speak louder than words. He doesn’t have much to say, but he usually has a lot to do, so kindly keep out from under hoof. Some ponies might find him a bit on the gruff side, but he enjoys his work mostly because it’s a real, tangible way of helping others out, and at the end of a long day, he can stand back and say, “Yup, I built that.”
As for me, there isn't really much to talk about. I've been RPing online since the early '90s, so I'm not very new, although I always get confused about code differences between MUCKs and MUSHes and MUDs. And um. I look forward to playing with you all, hopefully in the near future.

Post by Apple Bloom on Apr 26, 2012 13:16:19 GMT -5
I'm surprised I didn't post here already!
I'm Marble Memory/Apple Bloom/Salsa Verde. I have a tendency to play among the crazier ponies on this game.
Salsa Verde is Ponyville's resident sauce mare. Nopony makes better sauce than she. All you have to overlook is the fact that she makes all her sauces in various shades of green. This is fine as the sauces themselves are quite exquisite! Unfortunately of all three of my ponies she is the absolutely most insane. She sees Equestria in perhaps so very many ways that other ponies do not, and not in any existential or meaningful way. Probably the most primary of her delusions seems to be that all catastrophes both minor and major are the work of gnomes, all of which are conspiring to overturn Equestria and the way of life that it holds. Perhaps the craziest thing, however, is that the sauce mare is in love with and in a deep, meaningful relationship with Equestria's weapon of mass destruction: Sky Blue. She has two NPC siblings. Salsa Dancer, the "sane" one who went off to Manehattan to open a dance studio and can't seem to lock eyes on a female without hopelessly flirting with them, and Salsa Picante, whom ponies may know from the show as Screwloose, the pony who thinks she is a dog.
We all know Apple Bloom, the adorable little ringleader of the Cutie Mark Crusaders. She is also, sadly enough, the very brains of that operation. Desperate to earn her cutie mark, she'll do just about literally anything for it. She's gotten into a big of a streak of getting in trouble with Applejack, and most recently trauma involving a certain evil clown has driven her into villainy in the form of Bad Apple for a little while. She has a bit of a phobia of bees, and has been feeling guilty about a couple recent events she feels responsible for. What's worse is she still didn't earn her Evil cutie mark!
Marble Memory, Keeper of Artifacts, Master of Rituals, Filer of Late Study Paperwork is one of the royal governments more higher-ranking bureaucrats, having only a couple layers between him and the royalty. Perhaps there are a few key things to remember about Marble. 1. He is in a state of stress constantly ranging from self-burdened to within the verge of total nervous breakdown. The princesses tries to get him to relax and de-stress by sending him to Ponyville for a vacation and this just made it worse. 2. Marble lives off of coffee and his favorite food: Bran muffins. He is quite successful in scenes in acquiring and drinking his coffee... but for whatever reason bran muffins continue to elude his mastication. This of course tends to cause him aforementioned stress. Much querying of the sky as to why his life is like this follows. 3. Nopony, not even Marble, can really explain WHAT the Late Studies *are.* 4. When Marble hears about filing, filing systems, or other means of organization, he is comforted and quite content. He spent almost an entire scene with Twilight Sparkle having a spirited conversation about this very topic. 5. Almost all of Marble's work is self-inflicted. Nopony above Marble actually CARES all that much if about 75% of his paperwork even exists, let alone is filed efficiently. Same semi-applies to his care for the artifacts: Most are pretty well sealed-up and rendered harmless by alicorn magic, but Marble is absolutely convinced utter ruination if he doesn't take care of the artifacts, and if he doesn't manage to keep impeccable records and apply red tape to everything. Finally, 6. Despite his rampant social awkwardness and incredible waves of stress, he has two ponies who apparently have not-so-secret crushes on him: Star Paige and Smooth Shadow, both. Despite ALL of the above features, Marble is actually usually a very nice pony, albeit prone to panicking about small details.
As for the player behind these, I am a programmer, and I love computers. Many of you may know me as Yaro the meerkat in so many different mediums. I'm also known as the player behind Braxton/Felix/Hinto on Meadows, Rakta on Hidden Nirvana, and Blood/Ravis/Irma on Chimera, among many others.
That's all there is to know. For now.

~Good evening, ponies...~
Nettleglum here, occasionally there. (There being under your sofa.) Based on some recent feedback from a couple of players, I have decided to give Nettie's odd family an official name. With an eye towards current trends in MLP fanfiction and a tongue firmly in cheek, we dub Nettie's clan the Grimdark family! Nettie's full name will be Nettleglum Grimdark, and we have Aunt Lucrezia Grimdark, Uncle Karloff Grimdark, Cousin Patchwork Grimdark, and so on, and so on. ;p
