Tonight, Little Miss Diamond is up to her favorite activity- Star Streaking. Not quite star gazing- the little filly is high in the sky, zipping around here and there, left and right, up and down, leaving her trade mark streak of light behind her when she's flying at top speed. The end effect is a glimmering, shimmering 'Star' that's left in the sky for a few moments, before slowly fading away. She loops around, and around, and around, making six sided stars, five sided stars, eight stars, four sided stars, before she tried to come in for a landing and...EEEk...face plants....
The sound of applause comes from the trees nearby. "Bravo!" Bardigan says with a grin, coming out of the foliage. "Your technique is as refined as ever, Diamond." He looks up at the stars, noting the final star she managed to make before it fades out. "So this is what you've been doing the last few nights." He noses her to her hooves. "It's impressive. Ever think of taking that show on the road?"
Diamond_Dancer lifts her head out from the dirt, blinking a moment or so before righting herself and rushing over to give her BBBFF a hug!" Heya Bardy! Yeah, I do stars up dare in da sky. One day I figured if I couldn't catch one, I'd make some...but dey ain't da real ding...I never got any wishes from 'em. "She explains quietly. "I've been rackin muh brain ovah n' ovah again ta try and figure out dis star puzzle...but I ain't got nuffin." "She sighs.
Bardigan does one better. As Diamond leaps on him, he opens his hooves and pulls her right up, giving her a nice firm snuggle with a good ruffling of her already messy mane. "Hey there, little gem," he says, grinning wider than he has before. Just the sight of her is enough to lift some of the pall that's been hanging over him very recently. "I've been looking for you to talk about just that..." He glances back and forth, as if checking for spies, and then leans in close to whisper in her ear. "I think I have a lead on what to do."
Diamond_Dancer's grins at the hug- still unused to being 'cared' about by another pony, it fills here with a warm sort of joy, and she giggles quietly, before her eyes widen when he whispers in her ear. "You do...You HAVE?! You'se got infomation about my star?! W, what is it?! Whado I do?! Where do I go?! You'se gotta tell me!!"
Bardigan holds up a hoof to press to Diamond's lips. "Now, hold on there. It's a lead. And possibly a dangerous one. You remember the firestone you tried to acquire from that dragon?" He raises an eyebrow rather severely. "Well. Guess who I went to talk to about that? Twilight Sparkle. And she just so happened to have a whole book on them... old stardust, those old stones were called. Believed to be star shards themselves. They're magic all right, Diamond, and it seems there's an untapped vein of the stuff... in the possession of Diamond Dogs."
Diamond_Dancer is almost bursting with excitement from the words lead to magic to STARS! "OH! Oh, Dis is great! DIS IS MARVELOUS! I..I KNOW DIAMOND DOGS! CLARA IS A DIAMOND DOG!" She barks, hopping up and down, alternating hooves. "OHohohohoh, We's gonna got n' talk to Clara! We can get star dust! And den...and dennnnnn...uh....uhh.....Sprinkle it on da star? Maybe with enough star dust, we can bring it back! Oh, oh, first we gotta GET da star dust.....you know in tellin me all dis it's practically givin me premission ta do somedin stupid, right? Just- Ya know, so we're clear."She adds.
Bardigan AHEMS. Rather loudly. He shakes his head. "No. No, it is not, Diamond Dancer. Because you do not even know where these Diamond Dogs are. Neither do I. Neither, I think, does Clara. And I *will* make sure you do not go off to do this yourself by any means necessary!" He points a hoof at his eyes and then down at the little filly. "I have had a very stressful last few days, Diamond. I told you this to give you *hope.*" He leans closer, hugging around her shoulders. "Please. Be patient until we can make the proper preparations. For me?"
Diamond_Dancer says "Patient." She says slowly, tilting her head as if Bardigan has completely lost his mind. "Have you MET me? ...Sure. Patient. I can be patient. I can be patient for ten seconds. Record is thirteen seconds, but I don't dink I can evah get dat high again. So, what your saying, is dat I don't need ta go get concil from Clara, cause she don't know where dese Diamond Dogs is. Ok. And you don't know where dey are, and I don't know where dey are, so we hafta go n' look! Makes sense ta me! ...Sides..."She grins, slowly starting to circle around Bardigan. "...How EXCATLY...do youse plan ta stop me? I AM invincible, ya know. "She chuckles quietly. "I git a star, you'se get a lil sistah dat has an in wiff Princess Luna...I introduce youse, you two hit it off....it's win win!"
Bardigan rolls his eyes, at first looking mildly annoyed, and a little amused at the daring, insolent tone in Diamond's voice. He takes a deep, *patient* breath, fully prepared to use all his stage trickery to slow her down if she runs. "Now, Diamond, you..." And then the situation turns to Princess Luna. His smile drops from his face like a brick, and his eyes go wide. He looks stricken, and a twitch of pain comes over him for just a moment before leaving just as quickly. He raises a hoof and gestures vaguely, mouth working but no words coming out. "I, ah... well... yes. That... *would* be nice. I'm flattered you're thinking of me, little gem. But, but let's stay focused here. Clara can help, certainly, but there is absolutely *no way* you're going without me. It was my idea, after all! And..." He clears his throat. "I sort of promised Twilight she could come too."
Diamond_Dancer Winces when Bardigan includes that he promised Twilight she could come too, and bites her lower lip. "Ahh...Look, Bardy, you'se is my BBBFF ya know, but uh, dis ain't exactly da sort of place ya know uh...Stage pony like you'se oughta go. It'll be dangerous...like, real dangerous. I've been dealin' wit danger my whole life, so lets be clear here...I go off on my own, It ain't cause I don't respect yer wisdom or nothin...but...but I don't dink I could stand it if...if you'se got hurt chasin MY dream. Ya know? Clara? Hey, da undaground is her home, ya know. She's...she's cool. But I can't...I'm supposta protect...dats why I'm dis way...at least dat makes sense ta me...and I wouldn't be much of a protecta if youse got hurt, ya know?" She says quietly.
Bardigan's pain is quickly forgotten in the face of indignation. He sputters, shaking his head as if to get rid of the silly notion that he can't protect himself. "Now, Diamond, I am the *big* brother for a reason. This is something I need... I *want*... to do for you as much as you need to do it for yourself. I've gone on my fair share of adventures myself back in the day." He reaches out and puts a hoof on her shoulder. "I'm not just an actor, Diamond. There is more to me than that. My love for you is real. As is all that that implies. I can't call myself a brother to you if I let you do this alone. We do this together, Diamond. Because that is what family does." He leans in to boop her nose with his. "We'll watch each other's backs."
Diamond_Dancer's ears lower sheepishly. "...I...I ain't nevah had no family before...y, you know dat. I ain't quite sure what ta do...and I definetly ain't nevah had no pony ta care about me...l, like you....c...cept Stridah....Look, it ain't dat I don't wantcha ta come wit me you know. I...I just don't want youse ta get hurt. J, just cause I'm invincible don't mean everypony is! I can take a beatin..Dragon fire, bein' electrocuted, bein' squashed, bashed, flattned, smashed...But my heart ain't invincible...you git hurt I get hurt...Dis confusin...look...y, youse can come wif, if you'se wanna...But just...just don't git hurt, ok?"She whimpers.
Bardigan doesn't hesitate. He plucks up the filly and holds her close to his chest, wrapping his wings around her. "Then one heart beats for us both. And it's knowing that we are so valued that will keep us safe. I will protect myself to protect you. I promise you, little gem. I promise we will both come back from this, and we will do so in triumph." He bends his neck to kiss the top of her head. "We are favored ones of Luna herself, aren't we? We'll be all right."
Diamond_Dancer grins quietly, her cheeks alive with a blush and she nods her head. "Hey, I suppose you'se a night pony too, huh? You'se always puttin on yer shows at night n everyding...I love da night! Da stars shine so brightly...like..like coins...buying youse a trip across da great black ocean of da sky...And da moon..and it's all peaceful n' quiet...and...safe..."She yawns. " I'm still workin on gettin myself nocturnal!"
"It's not so hard," Bardigan whispers, no longer smiling now that she can't see his face. "You just sort of... learn to lose yourself in it after a while." He closes his eyes, and his hug gets just a little bit tighter. "I love the night very much, too. But like the stars, she is... always distant." He sighs. "Let's get back home."
Diamond_Dancer trails off a moment. "...Home..."She mumbles. Still not quite used to having one of THOSE either..."S, sure...yeah..l, lets go 'home." She sputters quietly.
Bardigan gives her an extra squeeze and then moves to deposit her on his back. "Come. Shall I give you a ride home, little gem?"
Diamond_Dancer grins quietly. "Naw, dats embarrassin! "She giggles, cheeks rosing gently. "...I like lil gem...is dis how families really are? It...It's nice. "She says quietly.
Bardigan smiles kindly. "It is." He rolls his eyes. "Goodness, just wait until you meet my parents..." He spreads his wings, inviting her to fly alongside him as they head back. He makes sure to go higher than normal, flying close to the night sky they love so much, reaching for stars that always seem just beyond their hooves.
The sound of applause comes from the trees nearby. "Bravo!" Bardigan says with a grin, coming out of the foliage. "Your technique is as refined as ever, Diamond."
