Ahem! Hello and welcome to another fabulous addition of The fine art of Roleplay etiquette: Opening Poses
I shall be your teacher this evening; the elegant and always fashionable Rarity, and for this class, we will be discussing the finer art, of RP!
Now, before we begin, darling, there IS something I simply must address: the views depicted here are simply my own opinions and not such that of EquestiraMuck's staff, or the hard working Wizards that run our little corner of the web.
Now, that being said, lets get down to the topic at hoof, shall we? RP! Role playing. The finer art of telling a story through the written word! Oh what glamor and excitement! The romance and adventure! Comedy and Drama! The possibilities are endless!
With more and more ponies attending ponyvillie, it is absolute imperative that we address the subject at hoof, and for now, dear, that will be Opening Pose.
Now then, lets say you enter Ponyville square and notice Pinkie Pie and Fluttershy in the midst of conversation- talking about Rarity's brand new hat, the latest in trendy fashion wear and design, and you wish to join in! Well that's all well and good, darling, but there is a certain rhyme and reason to it.
You should like your opening pose to be noticeable, of course, (Everypony likes to make an entrance) grand and dramatic. Maybe comedic and hilarious, or witty and charming- but before you get a chance to even finish writing your first sentence, PinkiePie writes:
PinkiePie sees you walking up, and greets you with a big smile! "Hello!" She says cheerfully!
Well darling, many of you may be put off by this, and I certainly cannot blame you! Whatever grand and glorious pose you may have been writing- hard work and effort into establishing your character, has been removed by Pinkie deciding you were in the scene before you were ready. (For Shame, Pinkie, for shame!) Now some of you may not have a problem with this, but SOMEponies like to be a little extra glittery before we arrive on scene. In addition, perhaps we're simply watching and waiting for a good chance to enter the scene, to get a better grasp of what's going on before posing our entrance. Or maybe we're not ready to Role play at all, and would simply like to watch the scene folding out!
This may not seem like a terrible problem at first, but when you've got seven or eight ponies, in line, waiting their turn to pose (And we shall cover pose order in another class, dear,) It can become confusing and frustrating to not only you, but to the other ponies involved in the scene. For example.
Pinkie poses Pony X into the scene.
Fluttershy is next, and writes up her pose, now adding Pony X into the scene and her pose as well.
Pony X is frustrated, since she's not ready to enter the scene.
Pinkie must now recant her pose or have everypony ignore the fact that she wrote Pony X in.
Fluttershy must ALSO recant her pose, or have the rest of the ponies ignore that she said Pony X was in her pose.
When there are 7 or 8 ponies in the room, this gets to be confusing and aggravating.
So, please, everypony, if someone enters the room while you're in the middle of a scene, let THEM decide if they want to enter, and don't pose them in before they're ready.
