In this log, Dinky finally manages to tell Solar Eclipse, her royal betrothed, that she's been getting wooed by Quasar. Things get testy.

Solar Eclipse's Chambers
The quarters of Prince Solar Eclipse might not be what one would expect of a royal bloodline. Sure, the room is nice, but it's not what one might call opulent. The room itself is situated at the bottom of Luna's tower. As such, the room is a somewhat odd, round shaped room. Along one wall, taking up a quarter of the wallspace of the room, is a set of bookshelves, packed with quite a few books. There's a few cushions laid about in the floor there as well, and a small fireplace nearby (But, of course, not too nearby as to accidentally catch any books on fire). Along the opposite wall is a desk with an old, dusty tome or two on it. Near that is a set of <shelves> with a few odd items and knickknacks on them for those that might care to <look> at them. Also, near the shelves is an armor stand that, while Eclipse isn't wearing it, has a set of armor sized for him.
The room's ceiling is high, actually, and has a loft that takes up half the circle. A circle staircase leads up to the loft area, which simply has his bed, and a way out onto a small balcony that looks out into the courtyard. During the day, the room has enough sunlight to brighten it up, but at night, a few luminescent blue crystals glow, giving the room an odd, eerie effect that makes it seem bathed in moonlight bright enough to read by.

*knock knock knock*
<OOC> Solar_Eclipse says, "Oh hey"
The door opens, seemingly on its own. Eclipse is nearby, but in the loft parto f his room, looking out the window. His bed's got a few things on it, books that are unopened for once, some sort of scroll that look like it's been read and re-rolled and a couple of crystals and other bits and bobs. Eclipse glances toward the door and smiles, "Hi Dinky."
Dinky walks in cautiously. She doesn't see the prince until she looks up. "Oh. Hi." Nothing more to add for now. The courier's daughter creeps in further and looks at the books on the bed. She frowns. "This a good time for a visit?"
They're just books. Dusty old tomes, one looks to be a new copy of the latest Daring Do novel, so nothing really notable. "Oh, uh, yes, it always is, you know," he says and smiles. "What's up?"
Dinky pulls over the latest Daring Do, peeks at the cover for a few moments, lets it go. Up in the loft, she joins Eclipse at the balcony door. "Hardly got a word in when I ran into you in the... the big street, whatever you call it. Escolade? Something like that. But are you doing okay?"
Solar_Eclipse's eyes squint and he looks off a moment, "I'm... Ok," he says after a moment. "I'll be fine, I think." He hums softly, "Yeah, just had a few things to ponder through. What about you? doing ok?"
Dinky sits down next to him. "Got a few things to ponder, too. That's life. There's homework, but then there's -real- homework." She stares out at the courtyard, but then looks at Eclipse, trying to get the measure of his face. "I'm doing fine, yeah. I wanted to let you know something." Yet she doesn't come right out with whatever it is, which isn't Dinkylike at all, when you think about it.
Solar_Eclipse chuckles, "Yeah, guess so. Real homework." His ears twitch a bit and he puffs out a breath or two. "Hmm? Oh, uh, sure, what's up?" he wonders, giving a curious glance.
"You're cool with Quasar, right?" Dinky asks. "No grudge or quarrel or anything?"
Solar_Eclipse headtilts, "Yeah, he's one of my friends, why?"
"Well." Dinky scratches her head, looking away for just a moment before she forces herself to make eye contact. "Turns out he's got a thing for me. He's been, like, wooing me pretty hard."
"Oh," Eclipse says, brow furrowing a bit. "That's..." he pauses, looking down, "Yeah that's not really very cool," he says, looking away, thinking for a few long, quiet moments, "I thought he had a thing for Sweetie Belle and Apple Bloom," he admits, rubbing his head.
Dinky hesitates, drawn short. Her tail sweeps the stones. "He did, huh? That is... something he hasn't mentioned."
Solar_Eclipse shrugs, "Maybe I'm wrong," he says. He looks over a few moments and brows furrow with a considering gaze.
Dinky looks consideringly at Solar Eclipse, too, her gaze a little more distant. "He doesn't have a lot of people in his life," she remarks. And that's saying something, coming from this girl. "Seems to think I'm the popular one, if you can believe it. And he thinks I'm smart. So." She lets out a breath. "I humor him."
Solar_Eclipse's ears flick back, "Do you... like him wooing you?" he asks after a few, long moments.
Dinky doesn't answer right away. She sinks a little lower on the floor. "Yeah," she answers. "Yeah, it's cool." That's all.
Solar_Eclipse sucks in a soft breath. His eyes go to tiny little pinpricks a moment. It's probably not a good look. He quickly rises, and then turns away, "I see," he mumbles.
Dinky rises silently. Not going away. "You upset with me?" she asks.
Solar_Eclipse shrugs, "I just thought..." he starts and he then moves away now, down the stairs, "I guess it doesn't matter," he says after a moment more, silence punctuating things rather starkly. "I guess if... well, that's what you want," he says.
Dinky remains, a little stunned, on the loft, looking down. But she isn't dumbstruck forever. She stands up. "If what's what I want? You think me being okay with being pampered a little is a whole 'what I want'? It's just a thing." She pauses. "You want I should've told him no, you can't take me out? I'm happy with my grass dinners and playing hooky from home?"
"It's not?" he asks. "I thought you just said you did," he offers. He waves a hoof and the light seems to brighten, his mood apparantly attracting a few shades he had to shoo off. "I guess I just don't understand. But, that's probably a normal thing too," he admits, on the ground floor. His horn flashes and a picture of himself, Shutterbug and Quasar on their camping trip tips forward enough to fall on it's face.
Dinky is about to explain further when she sees the picture fall. She sits again, startled. "Uh." She watches the shades scatter. "Um... I'm here now, if that helps. You know... we could do something. It's been a while since we hung out," Dinky points out, a trifle distracted.
Solar_Eclipse's ears perk a bit, and his perpelxed expression doesn't fade. "I don't know," he admits after a moment, being honest. "I'm still confused about this whole thing. If you're like, with him, with him and all and stuff." He's not quite so eloquent. "And I don't know what I feel like doing now."
Dinky walks down the stairs. She may be downright eloquent in comparison, so it's worth a try. "'With him' with him? Kinda redundant. He's not here now, is he? Look, Eclipse. You and me, we're betrothed. We're on course to marry someday, and you what? That doesn't make me shiver or shake with anger or dread the way it used to. It might be cool. I could live with... living with you, sure. But you know Princess Luna said we could cancel it if we want to. If either of us found someone else we liked better." She pauses a takes a breath. "Well, how are we supposed to ever know if we've found someone unless we go on dates and stuff? Are we supposed to just guess?"
He's quiet a few moments, a usual thing for today. "I guess it wouldn't bother you then if I started hanging out with someone else then?" he says, gauging a reaction now. "And, does Quasar know you're testing the waters or whatever, or are you his fillyfriend or...what?" He shoulderslouches, apparently growing up and dealing with other folks is hard on him.
Dinky's reaction is dead steely. Nothing but a stare. And then after a while: "Sure. Wouldn't bother me at all. I've got no real claim on you, just a lucky princess fluke thing. Heck, I'd compare notes on whoever and we could lie on the bed and gossip about her." She laughs, a sharp, self-amused chuff. "Never thought I'd suggest that. But anyway." She tries to answer the second question. "I'd say, yeah, he knows I'm testing the waters, whatever that means. He knows me and you are a couple and he's an alternative. He's okay with that. For now, anyway." She walks closer. "Are you okay with it?"
"I am uh..." He looks down, perhaps the reaction wasn't what he thought it'd be. "I'm not sure," he admits. I'll... I'll have to think about it. I'm also a little hurt Quasar's starting all that knowing it might hurt me." Not a friendly reaction. He stares at a wall a few moments, his horn going dark with his shadow aura, tendrils slipping out and, halfway to the wall then fade to a blue color that freezes along the surface.
Dinky walks over and reaches up to touch one of the tendrils. "Think you got stuck, there," she offers helpfully.
The tendril is just almost icey dust that, upon hitting stone, freezes solid. He stops and things fade, save for the patch of ice. "I'm not stuck," he notes, "Just...new tricks." His tone is still simply even "Sorry, just things are weighing on me now."
"S'all right," says Dinky. She runs her hoof along the length of the frozen tendril until it disappears. "Me too. You know, I didn't want to hurt you. I just didn't want to be mean to someone else in our class who gets... you know. Ostracized. Beat up and threatened and... made fun of. Who would I be if I said, no, you know what? Foals like us -don't- stick together. Forget you." She sits in a gloomy place. "That'd suck."
The whole room got a little gloomy, really. A side effect of emotional state. "I guess," he says. "But I don't...know that it was very cool of him." He sighs, "I don't know if I'd want to be friends with somepony like that," he admits. "It's something I'm going to have to think about, I guess. Maybe should tell him not to come by anytime soon, or you could." He looks away, "And,um, maybe I'll speak to Miss Cheerilee. Stop going to school there, just rely on private teachers again."
Dinky is struck with a mild horror. "Aw, Eclipse. Just so you don't have to see him? Really? But then I won't see you in fourth period or at recess and..." She sighs heavily. "I mean, you don't throw out babies with bathwater, right? Just a saying. But sure, I guess I can tell him you're peeved. Still, you guys might as well talk, right?"
"I don't know how long it'll be before I'll want to talk," he admits. "I'm just thinking out loud anyway," he says. "I don't know that I trust him," he says after a time. It's an honest admission from a hurt little boy.
Dinky nods. She stays a couple feet away. "Well. I don't think he's a liar, anyway. I don't think he'd know how to lie. If that's... if that's worth anything. But I trust you, too."
Solar_Eclipse stays seated. He glances over to the picture, pondering dropping it into a bin by the desk (Which is currently full of failed homework, a couple pieces of mail and what looks like gaudy looking wrapping paper, to the point where it might explode if anything else is dropped in it). "Sure he does," Eclipse says. "He can give you definitions in several different languages adn I bet knows when the first lie was ever told, by and to who. Possibly have a little anecdote about it."
Dinky makes a sound she couldn't classify herself. Like a half dismissive laugh-sputter. "Well. He'd be lying then, wouldn't he?" She stays silent for a while, looking at the waste bin. Then she lets out a thin sigh. "I'm just in the way here, huh? Want me to head out? Give you some space?"
Solar_Eclipse mms "Either way, I think I'm just... less than happy. Maybe I don't trust myself either." He slouches a bit more. "I don't know, if you want to. Though," he muses, "Is this...how you thought things would go?"
Dinky pats her friend... her betrothed... on the back, gently. "#@% if I knew how things would go. What do I know about love? I'm ten. And I'm a late bloomer. I just wanted to let you know."
Solar_Eclipse is oddly a bit cool to the touch. Probably because those shades are hanging around him. Shadow hugs are cold hugs. "I guess," he says, not reacting too much. He stares at the bin a few moments, chewing on a lip, trying to decide if he wants to mention something. In the end, he doesn't, just gives a nod, "I guess so," he says. "I was just curious."
Dinky has to ask. "How did you think I thought things would go?" she asks, a little humor creeping back into her voice as she creeps around the prince's side.
Solar_Eclipse looks over, expression oddly hard to read from a pony who wears his heart on his sleeves. Well, when he wears sleeeves. "Hm, I don't know, this sort of blindsided me," he admits.
Dinky nods. "Yeah, that's what I thought." Her voice goes a little dry for a moment when she admits, "Me too." Then she walks toward the door. "Well, see in you class, I hope. If not..." She shrugs. "I'll track you down."
Solar_Eclipse hmms, "I may skip a few days," he admits. "I'll get homework from Shutterbug while I try to figure out what to do," he says. He walks toward the icey wall which suddenly has a black patch in it. "Let Quasar know, I guess, that I'll probably try to avoid him. Maybe forever," he murmurs and puts a hoof through the wall, as if it were open space, starting to step into his little icy portal.
"Uh...wait. Well, okay. I mean, if that's what you gotta do. But..." But she doesn't know what else to command, or advise. "So long, anyway." If he wants to use his dark portals to escape her, fine. Dinky'll just take the train back home. Maybe this won't last. They can work out their own problems, she guesses, if the guys don't want her help.
Solar_Eclipse pauses at the 'uh wait'. He thought she was leaving as she headed toward the door. "Hmm?" he asks, "I just...need some time to think I guess. I don't want to react based on what I'm feeling," he admits. His emotional mask is cracking, he looks sad, or crushed, or perhaps just as if he's feeling really tiny right now.
"Fair enough," says Dinky. "At our age... the kind of parental guidance -we- get? Yeah. We'd be dumb if we -did- trust our own feelings," she agrees. She takes one last breath, and then slips out.
"Parental Guidance?" Eclipse says, He could certainly use that. Or a hug from a parent. His dark day got darker and he slips out too.
<OOC> You say, "I gotta find a carrot cake somewhere. See you around, Solar."
<OOC> Solar_Eclipse says, "Did you pick up on the hints I was giving?"
<OOC> You say, "Hints? I don't think so."
<OOC> Solar_Eclipse says, "New book. Wrapping paper in the bin."
<OOC> You say, "Well, a new book isn't really unusual around here, is it?"
<OOC> Solar_Eclipse says, "No, but anyways... Think about it I guess. Good luck with the carrot cake, I suppose "
<OOC> You say, "Thanks. 'Till next time."
