Canterlot! Aloof and regal, a city of sweeping mountaintop vistas and
delicate spires and arches that flaunt gravity's hold. An ancient
city, where royal castles rub cornices with modern offices, where
bright marble and filigree trace patterns on every surface, and where
the plazas and terraces flash with pennants and sparkle, jewel-like,
with ornamental fountains. Here, in the capital of Equestria,
continual renewal brings the traditional and the new together. The
citizens are proud without being haughty (most of the time), and not
without some justification, living at the cultural and historical
fulcrum of Celestia's kingdom. While unicorns predominate-- perhaps
the College of Magics here in the city has something to do with that--
ponies from many lands have called Canterlot home, and it's not
unusual to see diplomatic visitors from far-away realms touring the
streets. The shops are a Mecca of trade, gathering rare and quality
goods from as far away as the visitors.
The grandeur of Canterlot has a special ~joie de vivre~ today; an
exultation of cheer with one focus: The Summer Sun Celebration!
Glittering, sun-emblazoned tapestries of silk drape from every arch,
and fluttering pennants in Celestia's gold and white wave at every
pinnacle. A gleaming decorative steeple has been erected in the
center of Canterlot; a gilded spire topped with the ring-shaped golden
sun of Celestia, though which her glory will radiate for everypony to
marvel upon on this longest day of Equestria's year! Of course, it
wouldn't be a festival without carts of ponies selling light
refreshments, and small flags for ponies to wave, and sunscreen and
sunglasses and sunhats and sunbonnets, because the one sun you do not
want to celebrate today is sunstroke. Have fun!

It must be three in the morning, as if anyone can remember three of what at this point, with the music thrumming in at least three directions, albeit distant except for the public jam on Cometshine Street, with musicians sitting all along a marble shelf and in an adjoining pit. And the drifting streamers, balloons, colored tissue paper and floating lanterns with little propellors. And the fact that for one night of all the year, more than half the shops are open! That's because the streets are busy, and among them is Derpy Doo from Ponyville, accompanied by her very special somepony, Bluestreak. She steps slowly and with large strides, wanting to take everything in. "Blueseek," she says, her voice nearly drowned out. "Is like day, but no light!"
Well, ONE of the mare's very special someponies, just the bigger one of the two blue stallions she fancies. Buuut that's water under the bridge when it comes to this evening at least, Bluestreak's eyes shifting from one shop to the other and taking in the party-like atmosphere as he walks alongside the blonde mailmare. "S'like this every night in Manehattan, albeit without the balloons and streamers. It's not uncommon to wander into somepony's shop in the middle of the night."
Derpy tilts her head as Bluestreak talks, dreaming of far-off places. Then again... "Have beened to Manehattan! Was fairly topsy and ~very~ turvy. Was delivery for Luna! Special delivery, special club secret." She flashes a little grin at her companion. "But during night? I slept!" she confesses. The two of them cross Oyster Street and another spectacle of pre-dawn jubilation is taking place to either side. What do they see...?
Pinkie_Pie swims by overhead, dangling from her balloons. "HEAR YE, HEAR YE!" she bellows, accompanying this with a loud toot on her trumpet. PAAAARP! "IT'S TIME FOR THE SUMMER BUNS CELESTIABRATION! WOOHOO! BUNS FOR ALL!"
A sleek shape barely distinguishable from the dark of the night and settled atop a steeple overlooking the plaza where ponies gathered. Virga's hooves balanced quite fine up there as he watched the unknowing below, content with certain, recent changes. The black pegasus held his wings partially open, and he pondered if he should join those on the ground. A resounding no. He had his own tasks for the night, especially if Princess Luna did decided to miss this occasion. The Guard was in place where needed and that was that other than reminiscing about this Day years back. It marked his arrival in Equestria and yet until tonight he missed every Celebration.
StarryBlade at Mister Snuffles insistence had prettied herself up with a few ribbons in her mane and tail and polished her hooves. She had no idea where she was going as she and her dapperly dressed tentabun walked the streets looking into all the windows of the shops and generally not paying attention. She cringed slightly when she hear Pinkie yelling and looked around before moving to a slightly less crowded area to take in all the sights. She would have preferred to fly but she had to hoof it, with a tentabun in top hat balanced on her head.
"Derpy! Derpy is that you over there? Help!" Bardigan's voice comes from under a pile of crystal globes, streamers, flags, pennants, knick-knacks, and vintage pens. Bardigan's rear hooves stick out from underneath the messy pile of mishap and merchandise, wobbling precariously. "I... I couldn't help myself! Tourist trap after tourist trap! And Diamond had so many things on her Hearth's Warming Eve list and everything was on sale and... yikes!" A super bouncy ball falls out of the panoply and bounces towards Derpy and Bluestreak. "Wait wait wait! Somepony catch that!"
Tweed-Patches loves the Summer Sun celebration. Perhaps it's because he was born in a tetering manner house on an expanse of blasted moore, far to the north, where the sun seldom shines, but that's just conjecture. The only true fact is that he loves the Summer Sun celebration, and has been out all night eating baked goods and treats - remenents of which decorate his lapels and the festive yellow bow tie he's put on in honor of the holiday. He's even wearing a starched collar. Will wonders never cease? See: here he comes now, tripping down the center of the street, giving greetings to everypony he meets!
<OOC> Pinkie_Pie says, "And all these ponies meet at the precise center of the street in three... two... one..."
<OOC> Nettleglum says, "Kaboom. I've invented the pony supercollider."
<OOC> Bardigan says, "We've finally discovered the theorized Hoofs boson."
Boing, boing, boing comes the rubberized sphere, Bluesy lifting an eyebrow as it approaches the wall-eyed mare and himself. Swinging a hoof downward he smacks the toy and changes it's course to bounce straight down and then quickly upwards again, eyes tracking the orb as it sails upwards... and as it begins it's descent he turns that same hoof over to catch it, glancing upwards towards the other stallion. "You didn't taunt this thing, did you?"
Derpy looks around in excitement, hoping to catch a bun, but so far they're none too abundant! "Pinkiie!!" she cries joyfully, recognizing the familial face and disposition. But she gets a response she rather didn't expect! Dashing past StarryBlade, Derpy hurries toward the pile of knick-knacks whose voice she recognizes as Bardigan, narrowly avoiding tripping on the bouncy ball as she passes it. "Bardigan!!" she calls. She arrives at the pile of junk and turns hopefully back toward Bluestreak. "Come and help!" she bids him before she starts setting aside items one by one to unearth the hapless playwright.
Pinkie_Pie waves vigorously down at Derpy! "Hallo! Hallo Miss Derply!" she squeaks in excitement! She blows on the trumpet again! *TOOT*!
"Taunt? I'll tell you-" Bardigan interrupts himself to shift the pile of things to one side and expose his face, "-what taunting is. It's this whole city. This whole party! Nothing but a giant spider web made to ensare the foolish and spendthrift. I was fairly certain I had a sizeable fortune when the night began, but - wait, no!" he exclaims, extending one of his wings to pick up what Derpy picks down in a futile, perfectly even cycle between the two ponies. "I can't put a *single* *thing* *down.* I don't know where it'll be if I take my eyes off any of it." *TOOT* goes Pinkie's trumpet. "Goodness what?!" Bardigan spins around, throwing down a new typewriter, a flugelhorn, and three *more* bouncy balls colored like the Sun with a clank, a honk, and three quiet 'bmfs.'
The bouncy balls go bouncing and spinning off into the night in separate directions to fulfill some strange destiny (one even heads right at StarryBlade). Bardigan doesn't even notice as he mourns the typewriter.
Bluestreak's ears quickly fold back against his skull as Derpy leaves his side to assist the playwright and starts to look about as the nervousness starts to creep in. He's never done that well in large crowds without somepony by his side. Nose wrinkling a tad, the blue flyer breaks into a fast canter to catch up with his date, having gone completely silent now.
Bardigan? Oh course. That spoony bard. And Derpy. And the Pink Thing going 'toot'. So many ponies, so much time to learn them all--but not tonight. In the old days, celebrations of the sun as far as he knew were solemn events of meditation and prayer, not parties and festivals. The old manner was certainly a bore compared to this. They had naught of pink ponies tooting their trumpets, for one, and unlike the past celebrations of ye olde times, he actually, in fact, received an 'invitation' in all its formality. It wasn't necessary, but he had his guesses as to why others implored his presence here. And the bard mourned the typewriter...a typewriter. 'The' typewriter. This, he did not understand. Typewriter...
StarryBlade looks up in time to see the colorful ball sailing right towards her head and hits her dead center, stunning her for a moment. The ball ricocheted off her head and into Mister Snuffles paws where he held it, staring at it in a startled manner. Starry shook herself, half fluttering and looks towards where the projectile had come from. She made her way back to several faces she thught she recognized. "Hello Mister Bardigan Sir... I think this is yours?" She looked up as Mister Snuffles offers the ball. She looks around, "Um... What exactly is the Summer Sun celebration?"
Derpy starts passing Bardigan's items off to Bluestreak. She slips the typewriter, with some difficulty, into her own green satchel, but everything else goes to Bluestreak. Deluze quill quiver (perhaps a present for Skyheart?) Check. Annotated book of sky charts? Check. Ruffled stallion's kimono? Check. "Bardigan, you have been up all nighttime. Are sleepy! Or maybe frenetical. Am so sorry you stepped into so many tourist snap-trap." She looks knowingly at Bluestreak. But then Starry Blade arrives and draws attention, so Derpy waves to Pinkie. "Pinkie! Is BALL EMERGENCY! Bardiganly has lost his balls!"
Tweed-Patches takes the second one of those bouncy balls to top of his skull and stutters to a stop as his glasses are sent flying - at least to the end of their leash. He staggers around a little before bumping into a wagon full of buns - much to the annoyance of the hawker, who in her hasty flailings and attempts to be rid of Tweed knocks off the brakes securing the wagon. The slow grinding is hard to hear at first, but soon enough the sound of metal tyres on cobbles can be heard, and Tweed and the sweets-seller put their differences aside to watch the cart, umbrella, and honeyed buns all trundle down the hill towards a certain knot of ponies. Oh dear." Is all Tweed can manage.
Pinkie_Pie gasps! "BALL EMERGENCY! Pinkie Pie is on the job!" She rapidly pulls a half dozen balls from the horn of her trumpet, and starts juggling them (along with the trumpet.) She tosses them in Bardigan's direction! "BARDY! Grab my balls!!"
"He's not the only one," comes the annoyed grumble from the now pack-mule Bluestreak, looking over his shoulder at all the random stuff Derpy's thrown upon him and rolling his eyes skyward, giving his head a shake while he flops onto his rump.
Celestia has connected.
<OOC> Celestia says, "Oh dear. Bardigan lost his balls already? I thought it would take a few more angry mares..."
<OOC> Pinkie_Pie says, "Don't worry, Sunbutt, I got 'em!"
<OOC> Celestia says, "I mean, they are quite valuable. I'd think each mare would want at least one in each divorce proceeding!"
If Virga had a drink about now, he'd likely spit. From his perch high upon that steeple, the words 'ball' and 'emergency' and 'ball's raged in his ears. All this trouble for securing one's balls. And he didn't think ponies made such jokes any more.
"I did not lose *all* of my balls!" Bardigan exclaims petulantly at Derpy, then looks plaintively up at Pinkie. "I have at least four more balls left! I have *plenty* of- ow!" Bardigan is being asaulted by balls from the sky! Unfortunately this is the time StarryBlade appears. "Huh? Oh! Ow! Starry! The Summer Sun Celebration is-" *ponk* "-an age old ritual that memorializes-" *bonk* "-the longest day of the year, also known as the-" *donk* "-Summer Solstice. Now scoot out of the way, my dear, there's a cart coming." Bardigan scoots the filly over to the sidewalk with his wing, smiling vacantly. Then he blinks with unhealthy rapidity. "Wait. RUNAWAY CART!"
Derpy gasps. "No, Piinkiie!! Is already too much carry!!" She tries to incercept the balls as they come flying, which just results in more rubber spheres rolling hither and thither through the carnival environment, thus adding to glee and mayhem. "FIND balls, not lose more!" She then sees the result of Tweed's carelessness and stares wall-eyed. "Also is Bun Emergency!!" she adds, before getting whacked by the cart and flipping through the air, tail over shoulders over hocks.
Pinkie_Pie squeaks, and catches Derpy in her arms. "Derpy! I didn't know you could fly! Wait, no I did," she corrects herself. Beenath them, ponies slide by, slipping on wayward balls as if they were marbles.
Tweed-Patches exhanges a look with the bun seller, and they both siddle away from each other. Tweed fidgets, tugs at his bowtie, and touches his jacket, just there, where he can feel his flask of tea. He draws courage from this.
Berry_Punch has arrived.
Berry_Punch, who's been here the whole time, senses a beverage-related superpower about to be invoked and stops trolling the card-trick magicians in order to bear witness!
StarryBlade hops to the side and watches the mayhem, eyes Mister snuffles and silently nods. It would be better for her to not be at ground level... and also not be at Pinkie Pie level. The tentabun points to a low roof she could easily climb onto and with some effort Starry makes it up to the top and watched the mayhem below. "Thank you Mister Bardigan Sir!" She calls down intothe chaos and simply looks around. She eyes Mister Snuffles, the dapper thing looking as well. "We're here Mister Snuffles... and Someday we will work for the Princess or Princesses..." The Tentabun pats her nose then points down to the ensuing chaos.
Luna ends the gloaming. As purple and pink paint the horizon, the moon drops visibly down the last stretch. The shadows on its pale surface trace out a princess's shape. That shape extends one hoof as it descends, and for those in Canterlot watching the ceremony, Luna's hoof remains reached out towards her sister until the moon slips out of sight. (Public-pose)
Marble_Memory hoofs over paperwork to Luna. (Public-pose)
Derpy finds herself in Pinkie Pie's possibly trapeze-supported clutches! She blinkblinks. "Pinkiie??" She looks down then and sees the buns spilling everywhere and the cart owner in a stand-off with a Canterlot professor. "You SAVED me!" she cheers, beating her wings and generating lift enough to alter the course of Pinkie's swing. Derpy smiles, finding her face only inches from that of StarryBlade on one of the porous white rooftops. "Is nice night," she observes. Then her eyes rotate again as the moon leaves the tableau and an image of Princess Luna remains on her retina.
Bardigan bounces back and forth on both hooves as the cart comes right at him! "Oh dear oh dear oh dear..." A million thoughts fly through his head. Diamond's Hearth's Warming List. All those delicious discounts. All the things that *could* be lost. And one word blanks out all others: NO. In the seconds before impact, he narrows his eyes and fills his lungs with a breath of boldness, breathing out the fear. "Hold this," he says to nopony in particular, dropping the pile of *stuff* on the nearest hapless bystander. And then, rubbing his hooves together, he *leaps* over the cart and grabs its rear end as it flies by, digging his rear hooves into the cobblestone. And then he gets yanked right off his hooves and goes careening down the street with the cart in the lead, screeching at the tops of his lungs.
Before a trumpeter even has the chance to begin a fanfare, before a politician has the opportunity to say a few words, the red-gold light of sunrise breaks the darkness settled across the distant horizon. A couple guards look startled for just a moment before they immediately stand up straight and gather up into formation. Luna's hoof is pointing towards nothing! Well, it was, until there's the golden gleam of sunlight shining onto a sparkling pastel mane that shoots straight up into the sky, borne by a pair of great white wings. Red and purple, magenta and mauve, lilac and auburn swirl through the distant clouds as light breaks through the darkness of night. Celestia keeps rising and rising, far up into the sky above where she typically rises, her horn still glowing bright gold. And then, the curve of the distant sun arches up across the sky, bringing with it the light of day.
Celestia shouts "The red-gold light of sunrise breaks the darkness settled across the distant horizon. Red and purple, magenta and mauve, lilac and auburn swirl through the distant clouds as light breaks through the darkness of night. And then, quickly, the curve of the distant sun arches up across the sky, bringing with it the light of day." (Public-shout)

Tweed-Patches taps his forehooves together as things escalate all the more. He glances over at the Cart's proprietor, who is rapidly losing her expression of amazement. Instead of looking at the chaos she's staring at Tweed - if looks could kill, Tweed would probably be rendered to a paste fine enough to paint a wall with. Tweed is not comfortable with this, and as the angry mare advances on him he eases away, grinning nervously. As the irrate baker follows him, he speeds up, then breaks into a run as chase is given. The first glimerings of dawn cheer him, and he murmurs a quick prayer to the sun in the hopes that he'll live to see the evening.
Pinkie_Pie oops, she missed her cue! She belatedly TOOOOTS on her trumpet to herald the sunrise!
Bardigan comes back up the street, sputtering and cursing as he scrapes bits of pastry and honeyed buns out of his mane. He finds himself back where he started, standing underneath Derpy and Pinkie, looking up at the now-blindingly-bright horizon. He peers up in startled, reverent stupor for a few seconds, and then throws his hooves in the air. "Oh, I missed it! Do you think she'll do it again?"
Several of the guards fumble their trumpets before bringing them up to their mouths to accompany Pinkie Pie.
Berry_Punch was puzzled and simultaneously delighted to be given all of Bardigan's stuff. When he returns, she shrugs and gives it back to him. "Easy come, easy go!" She puts a foreleg around Bardigan and his load and watches the sun rise. "Next year, sure. But it's not done yet. Look!" She points.
Red_Velvet stands on the small balcony just outside the upper story window of her Canterlot offices, looking quite tired and world weary, the crippled unicorn never the less smiles wanly at the sight of the sun and moon changing guard, "One sister saluting another...how appropriate."
As the sun broke the horizon, Virga's shadowy shape soared from the steeple and away from the light. His destination: the palace. Out of the Sun and into a dark corridor. Being white had its advantage, but blackness changed that. The Sun was hot, and being entirely black made it that much hotter. He could have stopped the cart at any time, but he decided not to--and he decided not and let it go. Ponies had to sometimes solve their own problems.
StarryBlade watches the mayhem and chaos and shakes her head, "Mister Snuffles... why did you think it was a good idea for me to come here? There's so many here?" She looks below then at the palace, as the tentabun patpats at her nose. "I know... one day maybe... but I have to be able to fly again remember?" She watches the event in the sky and lets out another heavy sigh, though it was a celebration she couldn't help but feel a little down.
The raising of the sun is a more notable affair today, as least that's the indication given the loud marching band which begins to play right as the sun clears the horizon. It's "Glorious Morning", part of the sun-themed canon of the Royal Canterlot Band and wholly appropriate for the occasion.
Derpy sits with Starry and Mr. Tentabun, eyes glazing with awe at the sight of the new sun given the weight of a princess's glory. She happens to glance over in the direction of Red Velvet's office and, seeing the proprietor there, waves enthusiastically! "Red Bean! Hello! Hello and good morning!" She smiles and stands, spreading her gray wings over all the assembled crowd in the streets below. "Good morniiing! Good morning to aall!!" She starts to hum a dizzy counterpoint to the marching band's song.
Tweed-Patches returns some time later, looking a little rumpled. He smooths his lapels down, glancing back over his shoulder. He'll have to tell his pony of business that he's bought a cart and twelve dozen sticky buns. He could have sworn that he was paying double the going price for those buns, though. There's a brief narrowing of eyes, and the hint of a scruncy face before he remembers why he's here, ad regains his composure. He sits down beside the first group of ponies he comes across, and smiles over to Berry, "What ho. Princess is doing herself proud today, what?"
PUB >> Dusk starts singing o/` Let the sunshine / Let the sunshine in / The sunshine in.. o/`
PUB >> Berry_Punch sings along, accompanying herself with electric guitar!
Red_Velvet looks up as Derpy calls and waves to her, she smiles and lifts a hoof to wave in return, "Hello Derpy, darling!" In a rare show of embarrassment Red does her best to cover the remains of her horn with her bangs. It's one thing in a day to day setting to let other ponies see the results of her accident, but this was the Summer Sun celebration. it was...quite another thing entirely.
Hollyhock has arrived.
Virga has left.
Big_Mac has arrived.
Scarlet has arrived.
Celestia, for her part, appears to... just keep flying? Instead of immediately landing, as she typically does, the Princess of Equestria swoops overhead in a great circle, barely visible to the ponies on the ground. Today, it seems, she'll be doing no grand speeches. Instead, she just flies through the sky, leaving a sunlit trail of stardust in her wake. A little gift to, or perhaps from, her sister. The bright light of day, the sparkling of the stars of night, and the luminescent glow of twilight, all at once in the sky.
"It's not?" Bardigan asks, looking up where Berry points. "Oooh," he whispers as Celestia drifts through the sky like the happiest comet in the universe. "Yes," he says with a firm nod and a little sniffle, wiping away a tear in the corner of his eye. "Yes, *that* made the trip worth it." He turns to Tweed, squinting at him. "Hey," he says, "you didn't see a bunch of bouncy balls go flying by earlier, did you?"
Celestia shouts "Ponies from across Equestria can see the faint, sparkling glow of a ribbon of stardust glimmering in the sunlit air." (Public-shout)
"Oooooh," says Fluttershy, as twinkling stardust lands in her mane.
Red_Velvet is suitably impressed by the display, and turns to call back into her office, "Macintosh! Mac, darling you simply must come out and see this! It is quite breathtaking!"
"That's right-ho!" replies Berry, grinning at her friend from that one kid's party. In the tavern, for some reason. "I think she's pretty much always proud, but she's really good at not showing it most of the time." Now she answers Bardigan. "Nope! See? Stardust! I love that stuff." Sounds like she mixes it in drinks. Berry points up to the princess, now high in the sky. "Looks pretty proud today, eh?" She then elbows Tweed and Bardigan both, passing Bardigan one of the sun-emblazoned bouncy balls. "Which color's your favorite? Ooh, are those sticky buns?"
Pinkie_Pie looks up at it with wide, shiny eyes. O.O
A sudden burst of rainbow streaks across the sky right beneath Celestia's travel path, as if to gather up some of that stardust. "Woohoo! Awesome stuff, Princess!" Rainbow Dash shouts, zipping in and out of the falling cloud and marvelling at the wonders of the day.
Hollyhock gawks openly at the display, her mouth agape as she watches, looking at this moment every inch the hick from the sticks that she is. She pushes her hat back on her head and sits herself down before whistling through her teeth.
<OOC> Berry_Punch grins. Way to pull Mac into the scene, Red!
<OOC> Red_Velvet says, "I do apologize for posing again so soon after my last, but Macintosh needed an "in"."
<OOC> Big_Mac has ad a bit of a busy day in the sun and asked if Red would mind laying out the red carpet for him. n.n
<OOC> Berry_Punch says, "Busy day in the sun, and apparently slept in Red's Canterlot office! Yeah, that makes sense."
<OOC> Hollyhock shiftyeyes. What was Mac doing in Velvet's office that kept him so busy?
<OOC> Big_Mac is a redhead, sun wears him out. n.n
<OOC> Big_Mac helps with renovations for his friends. n.n
<OOC> Bardigan says, "Red + Big Mac + red carpet= Invisible."
<OOC> Hollyhock airquotes with her hooves, "Renovations." She nods, "Right."
<OOC> Red_Velvet blushes furiously.
<OOC> Othershy says, "How could you tell?"
<OOC> Big_Mac is a red carpet ninja. n.n
StarryBlade jumps slightly as she hadn't even noticed Derpy beside her. "Hello Miss Pegasus lady, I didn't see you. I am sorry, I am Starry blade and this is Mister Snuffles." She smiles shylyand the tentabun waves and tips his little top hat to Derpy. She half flutters her wings, watching as Celestia drifts and let out a soft whimper, as she stretched her wings out and folded them again. her eyes wide and filled with wonder and want as she stared at the sky.
Tweed-Patches blinks quickly at Bardigan, "B-bouncy balls?" He swallows, looking left, then right, looking not at all suspicious, "I - I couldn't say that I have. Quite sorry. Have - have you lost yours?" He waits a beat, then starts feeling the need to clarify, "Your balls, that is."
Yes, it's quite a sight to see Big Macintosh in the city, though at least this time he insisted Red meet him at the train, having gotten lost the first time he visited her offices. He's glad to be up safe and sound in Red's loft when the streets begin to crowd. Even then he still stands out as he joins the mare on the balcony, his eyes going wide at the sheer numbers that have come out for the celebration "Eeyup!" he says in awe.
Derpy smiles kindly down upon the filly and her companion. "Not be sorry to be Starry Blade." She grins at the little top hatted bunny. "Is so good trick!" she exclaims, giggling. Derpy sits down but leaves her wings out, watching the celestial display. "Is so good flier," she observes, her eyes slowly tracking Celestia across the sky.
<OOC> Big_Mac erps and BRBs for a min for washroom! O.O
<OOC> Bluestreak says, "..Yeah I bet."
<OOC> Red_Velvet hides behind all the FCs in the room....from the scandal....you don't see anything.
<OOC> Bardigan covers StarryBlade's ears.
<OOC> Hollyhock gives Red a conspiratorial grin, and then flankbumps her, "Good job, hefa."
<OOC> Hollyhock says, "Jefa, rather c.c;;"
<OOC> Scarlet says, "LOL hefa
"
<OOC> Red_Velvet giggles.
<OOC> Scarlet says, "Moo!"
<OOC> Hollyhock squinty eyes at Scarlet =.=
<OOC> Scarlet says, "^__^"
<OOC> Scarlet runs away giggling!
"Well, he sure hasn't lost his marbles!" interjects Berry Punch. "Not yet, anyway." She follows this with an affectionate rub on Bardigan's head. She knows him from crowd scenes, mainly.
Scarlet has left.
<OOC> Red_Velvet says, "Darling, I am NOT that heavy!"
<OOC> Othershy lifts Red above her head.
<OOC> Celestia says, "(Duh duh duh duuuuh!)"
<OOC> Red_Velvet blinks then hugs the imitationlestia.
<OOC> Berry_Punch misses Enigma. Enigma would follow that up by running away over the horizon with Red held over his head.
<OOC> Red_Velvet says, "He was quite the character that one."
"Why does everypony keep asking that?" Bardigan grumbles under Berry's noogie. It's not like his mane is getting any worse with the twigs and honey buns stuck in it from that crash. "I have *plenty* of spare balls. I bought extra. They're... somewhere... in there." He gestures vaguely at the pile of odds and ends. "Between the Wonderbolts posters and fancy Camelu stools, I think."
Celestia continues to fly about in the sky for a while until she disappears into the crowded buildings and streets of Manhattan. But, the moment before she appears again, she can be felt. Or rather, the air pressure she's generating from her flight. The Princess of Equestria suddenly sweeps right up from behind StarryBlade, plucking her and her pet up with a glow of her golden magic and sets them on her back. "Hold on tight," she stage-whispers back to the filly as she she soars back up into the sky, her golden glow still surrounding the little filly and her pet (and his hat). Just in case.
Pinkie_Pie eees, clapclapping as Starryblade (and friend) go for a very special ride! ^^
Tweed-Patches displys his stunning grasp of logic as he pulls out his vacuum flask and slowly unscrews the lid, "Well, you asked me if I had seen any bouncy balls, so it follows that you must be looking for some, and in looking it stands to reason that you have lost them." He pours a steaming cup of tea out, and offers it to Bardigan, "QED. Tea?"
Fluttershy sits up and squeals in delight, slapping her hooves to her cheeks! Also, she's almost totally covered in sparkles.
Derpy's mouth is a huge gaping grin. She leaps up and down in place, bursting with excitement!!
Red_Velvet Oooohs in delight at the show, then smiles and stifles a snicker at the sight of Princess Celestia picking up the poor forlorn little filly and her pet, "Such a wonderful pony, she does pay such close attention to the needs of the ponies around her, and her sister as well. I think...I think I shall commission an artist of some sort to fashion a gift for each of our four princesses. To thank them for all that they do for us." She muses to herself, or perhaps asides to Macintosh Apple, Or Derpy for that matter on a roof not far away.
Rainbow_Dash soars up to meet Celestia, coming to fly right alongside the Princess. "Princess Celestia!" she shouts in greeting, giving the alicorn a salute. "That. Was. Awesome!!" She squees and makes an expression that can only be described as overtly joyous. "Whoa, hey kid!" she says, greeting Starryblade. "Look at you, you lucky filly!"
Berry_Punch sticks her own empty flask under Tweed's, collecting a cup of tea for herself. "Impeccable logic, as always. Who wants to play Four Square?"
Hollyhock's eyes can't seem to get any bigger, but somehow they do as Celestia flies overhead. She stands up, her wings springing open in surprise as Celestia buzzes the town, then she whoops out loud. She can't help it, shaking her hat over her head, "Yeeehaw!"
StarryBlade clings to the Princess too in shock to say anything but hang on. Mister Snuffles securing himself in Starry's mane as they were taken for a flight. The little pegasus was so happy she had tears in her eyes and a smile of the kind she hadn't had since she had arrived. Being in the air was a true joy for her. She did manage too look down, at everypony and everything. "Thank you... thank you..." Even Mister snuffles let out squeaks and squeals.. and a few blurbles of joy.
"Please," Bardigan answers Tweed, grabbing a tea cup from his pile of gifts and sundry. "I need something to calm my nerves after that night of nonstop shopping. Eurrgh. I doubt Twilight's castle has enough room for it all." He raises the tea cup, after it is filled, in salute to Celestia and StarryBlade as they go whooshing by. "What's Four Square?"
Big_Mac has disconnected.
Pinkie_Pie sniffles, wiping a tear from her eye even as she grins wide. Seeing Starry so happy makes her <3 <3 <3
Derpy flies off the roof after Celestia and Starry, unable to contain herself. She flies alongside for a while before falling behind. Rainbow veers in ahead, and Derpy joins her in the air. "Is truly luck," she tells Rainbow Dash, wiping a tear with a wingtip and thus spinning a bit in midair. "Is tradition? Or spontany?"
Tweed-Patches looks positively pleased by Berry's praise, and generously fills Bardi's tea cup before producing a hand full of misshapen sugar cubes from a pocket, "Do you take sugar?" There's little bits of pocket fluff clinging to the cubes. He immediately forgets that question though, and stares at Berry Punch, "Four square? Is that the one whre you stand with your nose in the corner while other ponies try and land rings on your ears?"
Celestia levels out her flight so that little Starry can regain at least some semblance of balance upon her back. As Rainbow Dash soars up next to her, the Princess gains a tender little smile. "It is the least that I can do for my little ponies," the Princess responds before glancing back towards StarryBlade. "Little one, meet my most loyal friend Rainbow Dash. I am sure you will fly together one day." She gives Starry a little bump before winking at Rainbow Dash. "Keep an eye out for this one." she says before tilting away and down, soaring back towards Manehatten.
"I always take sugar," says Berry Punch, taking the sugar clumps from Tweed and dumping them in one of her spare flasks. "And no, Four Square's the one with the squares on the ground and you bounce balls to each other, but now I want to play the one you said!" She looks to Bardigan. "You got any throwing rings in that pile of loot?"
Hollyhock is consumed by jealousy as she watches Celestia and Starry's flight, though she'd never say so. She stuffs her hat back on her head and trots down the street, not looking too sullen.
Red_Velvet lightly taps her chin with a hoof, turning over ideas and plans in her head, ideas for gifts largely for her rulers. There are other plots being spun at the same time, but her primary focus is on deciding what to give the four rulers of Equestria. "Now then, what does one buy for the Princess that has everything?"
Rarity has arrived.
Bardigan shrugs and begins rummaging around in his pile of junk. There are only so many words to describe it! "Well, I was in a bit of a buying frenzy, so I'm sure there's some in here *somewhere*..." And then he ends up burying his head into the pile, random baubles falling out behind him. "Hmm. Oh... when did I buy that? Hold on, is that a possum? Goodness, this was expensive... forty-five bits for a coffee maker? What *was* I thinking... oh, excuse me miss... Here we go!" And out he comes with a hoofful of throwing rings! "... I don't even know why I have these."
StarryBlade was awestruck and so was Mister Snuffles. She looks up with the happiest smile on her face. "Oh... that... I haven't been in the sky in so long." Once she was back on the roof top she looks at Rainbow Dash, grinning like a happy Pegasus, because she was. "I'm Starry blade," the lavender pegasus flutters and stares up at the sky, elated and still in awe of the flight.
Tweed-Patches eyes those throwing rings dubiously as he sips his tea.
Rainbow_Dash gives a confident smile and swoops down to land on the roof alongside the filly. "Good to see ya, Starry Blade! I'm...well, you probably know who I am, heheh." Her smile fades a bit, though, as she looks at Mr. Snuffles. "Hey, that's a really weird plushie you have there," she says.
Berry_Punch pulls them out from the stack and whirls them confidently around her pastern. "That's the ticket! You're really a prepared guy!" she tells Bardigan. "Thanks again for giving me that part in A Hearthswarming Carol. Bunches of fun. And ooh, a coffeemaker? Is that Cameluvian? If it works, I'll buy it for forty!" She passes the rings to Tweed. "Go on, show us how the game works!"
Celestia deposits StarryBlade and her pet (and his top hat) back on the rooftop, safe and sound. "A pleasure to meet you, Starryblade. You may call me Celestia." And leans over and plants a gentle, warm kiss on the little filly's forehead. "I look forward to seeing you again, little one. You have great potential." She then tips her head politely to Mister Snuffles. "And a pleasure to meet you too, Mister tentacle bunny." And with that, she spreads her wings out and flaps up into the air before soaring off, out of sight.
Red_Velvet seems to come to a decision, and a rather dark, wicked smile crosses her muzzle as she waves good bye to the Princess. Oh Yes, Red Velvet had just finalized some plans...better cover your noses darlings. Because it was about to hit the proverbial fan, and all of Equestria would feel the aftershocks. =3
Tweed-Patches accepts the rings carefully, weighing each of them with a hoof before he nods a slow approval, "Well, it's - uh - not that difficult, really. One pony stands in the corner with his nose to the wall, whilst the other ponies take turns tossing rings at his ears." He clears his throat, "And, well, the pony who lands the least number of rings has to serve as the house's toast-rack for the rest of the week. They call it four square because, well, it jolly well hurts catching a ring in the back of the old kopf, and if you can't keep all four hooves on the ground through the full game, well..." He trails off, sucking his teeth.
Derpy lands on the rooftop next to Starry again. She stands beming as Celestia flies off, her tail waving in the sheer magic of the stardust trail. Then she sits down. "Went riding with princess?" she asks Starry, even though she very well knows the answer.

Rainbow_Dash finally notices Derpy. "Yo Derps! You have the day off too?"
"Is national holiday!" Derpy calls to Rainbow Dash. "Is no mails!!" She grins brightly, surprisingly happy for the lack of mails.
Hollyhock ducks into a building, and soon enough emerges on the balcony beside Red Velvet with a flask of coffee and box of muffins for breakfast, "Some fiesta out there, hey boss?"
StarryBlade fluffs at the attention from Celestia and beams, Mister Snuffles waving all his tentacles at the Princess before she departs. Starry turns and smiles as Mister Snuffles waves a tentacle at Rainbow Dash and takes off his tophat with an elegant bow. "He's not a plushy.. He's Mister Snuffles. He's my best friend." She smiles warmly and looks at Derpy the happy grin still on her face, "Yes, it was the most amazing thing ever..."
Bardigan is holding a ring with rather impish intent, peering at Tweed as he explains the rules. "Well, then!" he announces. "You can go first. That corner will do!" He points out an intersection between two buildings.
Rainbow_Dash resists the urge to indulge in the thought that, for once, the citizens of Equestria don't have to worry about their rooves falling down when they get the mail. "Holidays are awesome for that! But...really, /this/ holiday is kinda special for a lot of other reasons." Even now the memories of Celebrations past come to her, especially the one when Twilight Sparkle came to town. "Pleased to meet you Mr. Sn- WHOA what the hay is /that/!?" She gawks and points rudely at the...thing on Starry's shoulder. "Is that one of Nettie's creepy creatures? It's...uh..." Really, she's rendered speechless. And a bit frightened.
Red_Velvet turns and smiles at Hollyhock as her aide joins her on the balcony, "Oh yes Quite. How are you this morning Holly? I do have to say, this year was so very different from the Celebration last year. The Princesses really did some innovative things this time around."
"Yeah, that sounds pretty weird," says Berry Punch. "First off, does that mean we've gotta share a house together for a week? What's more, what's a toast rack? Why would you keep your toast in a rack? It goes stale! And are you saying the penalty for taking your hoof off the ground is getting whacked in the rump? Or is that not what a kopf is?"
"Mooost amazing thing?" asks Derpy, leaning her head down to nuzzle StarryBlade gently. "Or third most amazing thing?" She perks her ears, waiting for the answer.
Pinkie_Pie has disconnected.
StarryBlade's companion waves at Rainbow a few times, "Mister Snuffles has been with me since the first time I fell out of the sky.. when I left home... He's very nice.. and..." She cocks an ear up nods slowly, "MIster Snuffles thinks that you are pretty and Awesome Miss Dash and..." She flicked her ear again, "And that You are very pretty too Miss Derpy." She half flutters and returns the nuzzle with a grin. "It was... the most amazing thing to happen to me since I arrived in PonyVille."
Tweed-Patches eyes the ring that Bardigan holds with something not totally akin to fear as he answers Berry, "Well, they played it at school, so school house, you see, and - well, - a toast rack is something you use to hold toast at breakfast. Ideally you eat it before it goes stale." There's a twitch, then he goes on, "And yes, the penelty for rubbing your head was a - uh - "whack in the rump", with a fives bat."

Hollyhock helps herself to coffee and a muffin. She talks around her mouthfull of baked goodness, "Ain't half bad." She swallows, and takes a slug of coffee, "Cain't say I've e'er seen a Summer Sun party quite like this one, so I cain't really compare. What'd she do last year?"
Rarity is, of course, attending the fantastic celebration- As a bearer of an element of harmony, Rarity is first in line, to show off her new summer sun dress- Bright white with lacey yellow trim, and a faaaaabulous sun hat. She trots in with a practiced swish of her indigo locks, and proceeds to beam her bright glittery smile at any pony, and everypony. Oh, yes, she looks amazing, and she KNOWS it...of course, all of it will only last until the Princess does her...sun....thing. And then it's all oooo, and ahhhh, look at the bright glowing fire orb in the sky. *Humph*
<OOC> Rarity points out, she is fashionably late.
<OOC> Red_Velvet noted that right away.
Rainbow_Dash peers suspiciously at Mr. Snuffles. Something with that many tentacles can't be good! Or... Curiously, she pokes at the tentabun with a hoof and immedietely, instinctively reels back in case it forms a mouth full of alien teeth or something.
"Wait, is the penalty for lifting a hoof or rubbing your head? Or don't tell me--one of those things is slang for the other thing in the weird boarding house you went to. And what's a fives bat?" Berry Punch takes one of the rings, ready to toss regardless. "DAYTIME RULES!" she shouts to the crowd at large, which responds with a cheer. "YEEAHH! DAAY! SUMMMEEEERRRRR!" And she takes a swig of the tea Tweed inadvertently poured her.
StarryBlade smiles and watches as Mister Snuffles holds up a tentacle gesturing for Raindow to hold on before he reaches into his chest and pulls out folded flight scarf and offers it to her. Starry smiles, "He is nice and wants to make friends..."
Bardigan takes Berry's lead and tosses a ring straight at Tweed's head. "Super Summer Time!" he crows, throwing a hoof around Berry's shoulders and holding up his tea like it's a mug of fresh apple cider.
Hollyhock shouts back to Berry Punch, sending a quantity of muffin crumbs over the railing as she shoults with her mouth full, "Summer sun is Best Sun!"
Tweed-Patches says "Lifting a hoof, or hooves. The - the rubbing of the head was just an example of why you'd do such a thing. Need to keep all four square on the ground." He plants his hooves firmly on the ground, "Thus, and then --" And then he takes a ring to the side of the head. He flinches, his mouth scrunching up as he does his best to remain stoic."
Red_Velvet nods to her aide and smiles, "Oh, last year was the same as is typical, Celestia gives a speech, and after Luna has lowered the moon, Celestia begins to slowly fly up into the sky, and with each beat of her wings the Sun rises in tandem with her. I am not sure how many years they went about doing it that way, but it became very formulaic. I am pleased to see them changing things up a bit. Luna's silhouette on the Moon gesturing to the sun was a particularly nice touch."
Berry_Punch frowns. "Bardigan!!" She looks over at Tweed. "Okay, I see a problem with this game. If you miss the ear, you hit the head. Hold on, lemme find a helmet." She goes over to Bardigan's stuff and roots through it. "Okay, official Neighagra Cave spelunker's helmet! Dunno what you're thinking, Bardigan, but it's got ear holes, so we're good." She goes over to install it on Tweed's head, all while shouting back to Hollyhock: "CELESTIA IS BEST SUNBUTT!"
Derpy watches Rainbow meeting Mr. Tentabun with tender affection. She then leaves them to their pleasures and takes wing, flying over to Red Velvet. She lands on the rail of the balcony, balancing precariously with all four hooves. "Is full of stardusty day!" she smalltalks.
Rainbow_Dash peers at Snuffles from behind her hooves. Carefully, cautiously, she takes the proffered scarf and quickly jams it into her saddlebag. She decides it's wise not to ask where the tentabun got it from. "Uh...I'll accept this offering, for now!" she declares, glancing at her hoof-watch. "Well, I gotta get things done before leave expires; you wouldn't believe the kind of- ah, heh, maybe you're a bit too young to know about that. Anyway..." She rises up to a hover and gives Starry a salute. "Have fun, kiddo!" she shouts, zipping off. After today, she has yet more training to look forward to, oy.
StarryBlade snuggles with Mister Snuffles and relaxes now. It was an eventful even for her and the most social she had been in quite some time. She thought it best that she just watch and relax from there on out... until Mister snuffles coughed up a bouncy ball in Bardigan's general direction.
Bardigan might have just been getting some kind of subconscious revenge for the cart incident! Nevertheless he has the grace to look embarrassed when Berry scolds him. "Well, he didn't say the rules required a helmet!" he says, and then trots over to Tweed. "Sorry about that. But look, you can *have* the helmet. And it comes with a built in torch!" He flicks a switch on the helmet, and a light right in the center of it lights up! "It's useful if you ever find yourself in a cave. And it makes the game easier for us! Winners all around."
Hollyhock nods slowly as she listens to Velvet, slowly eating her muffin, alternating with sips of coffee. This muffin would be better if it were fried in butter she decides. Then she nods to Velvet, "Donno. Sometimes there's somethin' nice 'bout knowin' what t' s'pect when y'r gettin' in't things. But still..." She smiles, "That bit where she went flyin' with that foal. That were real nice." Even if SHE didn't get to fly too!
Derpy finds herself within smelling range of a muffin after staying up all night wandering courseless through Canterlot's marvelous celebration. Then talk of a muffin fried in butter reaches her ears. She goes limp and starts to wobble on the railing, to and fro.
Red_Velvet looks up as Derpy joins her and Hollyhock on the balcony. The PR pony smiles winningly, "Hello Derpy! It is indeed! I hope you are enjoying the holiday? Do come down here and join us? That was so nice of you and Rainbow to spend time with that poor little filly, and yes just as Holly just mentioned, it was so sweet of Princess Celestia to take poor little Starry flying, the dear thing cannot fly on her own, and I fear it has her terribly depressed. I have this very morning decided that I am going to come up with a gift for each of our four princesses. Admittedly, I haven't just yet decided what I am going to do for them. I mean, as powerful as I am...I am not royalty. I just know I wish to express my gratitude to them for all that they do for us each day.'
Tweed-Patches's ears splay right out as the helmet is deposited on his head, "I never made mention of the helmet because it's totally opposed to the spirit of the game." He nods firmly, then allows, "I - I expect that exceptions can be made in certain circumstances. I - I mean there's - oh! Hello! A light! What a marvelous modern world we live in! Will wonders never cease?" He clicks the light on and off five or six times.
Red_Velvet then notices Derpy's condition and reaches out a hoof to try and pull her onto the Balcony proper, "Derpy, erm...darling. Do be careful. What has you all in a tizzy?"
Hollyhock stares at Derpy as she rocks back and forth on the railing. She feels her own eyes slowly crossing. She can't help it! Squeezing her eyes closed tight she shakes her head hard enough that her eyes can be heard rattling comically. Then she opens the muffin box, and pulls one out, offering it to the mail mare. It's poppy seed and lemon.
[Dice] Berry_Punch rolls 1d20:
[Dice] 12 = 12
Berry_Punch hurls her ring while Tweed is talking and it bounces off his ear and clangs off the helmet while he's fiddling with it. "Huh. Learning curve on this game, isn't there?" She gestures courteously to Bardigan, indicating his turn.
Red_Velvet has disconnected.
Derpy is about to topple off the balcony when the lemon poppyseed treasure is presented. She shakes out of her stupor and takes Red's leg, pulling herself onto the balcony. "Very thank you," she says politely to Holly, taking the muffin. She takes a little bite and stops halfway through, savoring it. The, after chewing for a while, she smiles to Red, before frowning. "Cannot fly? But Starry is wing! Why cannot fly?"
Tweed-Patches is brought back to the now as that ring clatters against his helmet. He looks paralized for a moment. Paralized and guilty with one hoof off the ground to fiddle with the lamp on the helmet. Was this whole helemt thing ruse to stop him from standing four square?
[Dice] Bardigan rolls 1d20:
[Dice] 2 = 2
StarryBlade watches the goings on still, a smile still on her face as she perches like a grumpy little owl on the top of the roof. She was happy, still happy. And the princess herself took her flying. The smile broadened more and Mister Snuffles petted at her nose, happy that his friend was smiling more.
Bardigan squints into the blinking light, his tongue sticking out of one corner of his mouth. He gives his wrist a few experimental flicks before he lets loose! And the ring spins *over* Tweed's head, curving back and bonking Bardigan right between the eyes. Bardigan blinks a few times. "... Does that count for anything?"
"It was pretty cool," acknowledges Berry, having followed the ring's progress there and back. "Did you just boomerang a circle? Wow. Must be one of those things you can only do on the solstice, like balancing an egg on end. Except that's the equinox. The solstice is stuff like doing the laundry without losing any socks, right? And peeling an orange in one connected piece. "Tweed, you took your hoof off the ground! Now you have to be a toast rack for a week!" She glances at Bardigan. "So... you guys wanna crash at my place, or..."
Rainbow_Dash has disconnected.
Rarity has disconnected.
Bardigan glances up at his huge pile of... he's not really sure what he's got in there anymore. "If you think you can fit all this in your house, then please, by all means. I don't want to walk this all the way back to my abode."
Tweed-Patches blinks rapidly at Berry, shamefaced, having been caught, "C-crash?" He has a helmet on, maybe the beatings won't be forthcoming either, "It won't - hurt, will it?"
Berry_Punch opens her mouth, hesitating, leg raised. She puts her hoof down, though. "Nah, not much. You can sleep in Carrot's old room. The mattress might be a little lumpy, but you'll make do. I've got extra quilts." She tosses another ring, landing it neatly around Tweed's ear, though it flies off again with a -clang-. "This is a fun game! I've gotta learn all the rules. C'mon, I live back in Ponyville, we'd better catch the morning train." She grabs some of Bardigan's stuff and sticks it in her bottle holder and canteens. "Oh--I don't have a toaster--is that a problem?"
Tweed-Patches scrunches his mouth up. Ponyville. That's not near the school at all, but still. He fidgets, and does his best to keep from tugging at his bow tie - the miss with the ring helps with that, oddly, and he flinches slightly away, "I - uh - suppose there's time for that on the train. Deciding what's what, I mean."
"Toaster?" Bardigan wonders, picking up what's left of his junk pile in one great *HEAVE.* "No, it shouldn't be. I much prefer fruits and flapjacks anyway. It's a very... summery kind of meal, don't you think?"
"Yeah, that sounds nice," admits Berry. "Fruits are kind of my deal, anyway. Berries especially. You guys had cranberries and currants on fried toast? Mmmmm. It's pretty otherworldly. And you can hold that while we eat it, Wilberforce! Oh, and if my finace shows up while I'm away, make sure you let him know we're just playing a game, okay?" With that, she walks off into the sunrise toward the train and an exciting week.
A giant pile of souvenirs with wings and two hooves trundles after her.
Tweed-Patches finds he has serious misgivings about teacing the rules to a game that is, in actuality, institutionalized hazing. Maybe he can interest the other ponies in some other game, "Oh sure. I'm sure your bethrohed won't mind at all, if he knows it's all a game. Speaking of games, have you ever heard of..." His voice is lost in the crowd as he trots along.
Off in the background, Fluttershy brushes the sparkles through her mane, with sparkly birds perched all over her body. "How wonderful."
Derpy shouts "Summer Sun Celebration is done! Happy times and good mornings to all!! But be on look-out for fearsome follow-up plot in days ahead!" (Public-shout)
