Derpy is not listless in her wandering of the streets of Canterlot. She hasn't reached that point. She is, however, at half list or less. Her muffin satchel's top is blowing open in the wind, and has only one muffin left in it. And her eyes are swollen from crying. Still she walks and occasionally flies, asking everyone she meets if they have seen blue small pony with yellow sun and if so where.
Well, Marble's just landed from his fllight to Canterlot. He's not given up, or let up on his relentless search for a way to free Sky Blue or put that Dr. Cakes in his place. He's missing some... piece... some element that is missing. He needs to find it, then Sky Blue will be safe. He doesn't notice his close friend as he heads for the palace doors.
Derpy wanders toward the palace again, or perhaps trudges. She hangs her head in the evening spring breeze. In so doing, though, the eye that's way higher that it should be happens to notice Marble Memory. Derpy hurries toward him, wanting the comfort of a friend in this trying time. Her satchel's open flap flaps even more open.
Marble pushes open the door just as Derpt comes upon him, and the bureaucrat does a sort of awkward flailing twist as he falls down in a cloud of paperwork. Almost artistic, really.
Derpy falls in slow motion, twisting and flapping one wing for balance. She eventually also collapses, her one muffin rolling out of her bag and onto Marble's paperwork. She shakes her head to straighten her mane out, and looks at him.
Marble lays on the ground a good... three minute before looking up from where he lays. "What... just happened?!"
Derpy's is zoning out during that time. Bubbles wheel over her head while her eyes revolve. She shakes her head again and looks at Marble. "Not am sure. World is strange. Hello Marble."
Marble shrieks and begins cleaning up all his paperwork! This is so unseemly! Oh Celestia, oh Celestia! He finallly gets it all together. "Derpy... Derpy... Derpy!" Marble blinks, looking over at the mare. "What happened?'
Derpy picks up a single sheet of paper and holds it out in her mouth to Marble. "Probably mishap," she decides. "Marble, my child is missing! Where is my Skychild? I cannot find."
"Skychild... Skych-- Oh! Sky Blue!" Marble takes the paperwork... then he realizes. "... Oh... Sky Blue. Um... Derpy... um..." Marble gestures to the palace door. "W-won't you come to my office?"
Derpy nods soberly and marches after.
Soon, Marble has brought Derpy to his office. "Do you need some coffee, Derpy?" Marble says, trying to think of the best way to tell his friend.
"I cannot find," Derpy repeats. "Where is Skychild. Last heard was Canterlot." She holds out a hoof for the beverage, willing to try it.
Marble hoofs it over. "Just... have a seat. I know where Sky is... but... I have bad news." Marble says, not looking forward to this.
Derpy sits on the floor and takes the cup of coffee between her front hooves. Her ears droop. "Bad news??" she asks.
"Um.. the chair..." Marble says, but decides ultimately he should just say, "Sky Blue's been placed in an asylum against her will... in Canterlot."
Derpy looks over at the chair. She looks at the cup of coffee in her hooves. She looks back at the chair. She sinks down lower in place, confused. "What is asylum," she asks, her eyes already starting to turn.
"Um... a bad stallion has convinced Ponyville's Chancellor that Sky Blue is crazy and dangerous and locked her up." Marble explains a little better.
Derpy shakes her head again to get her marbles rolling properly. The coffee in her hooves splashes, and she looks at it in alarm. "Is hot!" she exclaims.
"Y-yeah... it's coffee! Coffee's usually hot." Marble says, then leans against his desk. "Do you understand what's happened with Sky Blue?
Derpy sets down the coffee on the floor, slowly. She licks her pasterns clean. Then she looks up and half-nods. "Not wholefully. She is lock-ed up? By Eris Griffon?"
"My a psychiatrist named Dr. Cakes. I think he decieved Eris." Marble says, looking down at his coffee. "And I don't think it was for Sky Blue's own good."
Derpy frowns and looks down the coffee too. Maybe that's what it's for. "Says that crazy?" she asks.
Marble_Memory says "And I don't believe it. She may be clumsy... not very bright, but not crazy. And this doctor..." MArble says, sipping his coffee. "This doctor is hiding something. And I will find it. He's trying to hurt Sky Blue and I'm determined to find out how."
Derpy nods. "If you say. I am not judge of crazy." She stares at the surface of the coffee. "Have spokened to Eris?"
"Not yet. Frankly I have no plans to. I intend to bring this matter to the princesses. And I plan to find this... stallion's... secret." Marble says, "But it's hard, since I don't know where Black Rock used to be."
Derpy stands up straight and tips her ears to one side. "What is Black Rock?"
"Black Rock was a town. It's not there anymore." Marble says, "The problem is while there were survivors, I can't seem to pinpoint its location."
Derpy starts to shiver. "Survivors??"
"Sky Blue accidentally destroyed the town. But most of what I can learn is more dry... matter-of fact event stuff. Nothing that'd really give me more of a motivation for this doctor other than the fact he lived in Black Rock at the time." Marble says, "But I can't find record of his life there beyond just that fact."
Derpy shivers more. "Sky Blue destroy??" She dips her hooves in the coffee for comfort.
"You know Sky. She'd never do anything like that on purpose. You and I both know there's only ever one thing on her mind. And though she scares me, I can't deny that... her intentions are always good. Never really met a filly more motivated than Sky to make others happy, even if her approach might be misguided..." Marble explains.
Derpy nods slowly. "How town destroy?" she asks.
"An accident. You know how clumsy she is. It was entirely an accident." Marble explains. "That makes me question this doctor. He has to know there's no malintent. Or even ANY intent. Accidents happen but we don't just assume ponies that cause them are insane or criminal." Marble says.
Derpy nods slowly, taking this in. "Where does doctor live?"
"Canterlot. He's apparently in charge of Canterlot's mental health. But I think he has it in for Sky." Marble says, "But now you know where Sky is..."
Derpy nodnods. "In a silo. In Canterlot." She opens her wings and folds them. "I will must talk to Chancellor Eris."
"Asylum." Marble corrects. "Go ahead and talk to her. I'm going to keep finding more about this doctor..."
Derpy says "What is Sylum?"
"Ay-Sai-Luhm." Marble enunciates. "It's a place where crazy lponies get locked up. Almost like a jail."
Derpy's eyes swing around once. "Crazy Jail? Where is asylum? I will go."
"Canterlot, just in the outskirts. He's been working on keeping ponies away from seeing her." Marble says, "This doctor doesn't seem like he has a lot of best interest in mind. I worry he might go after you too if you do something he doesn't like..."
Derpy stands up straight and neat. She sets her back in resolve. "I will find bottom of this," she declares.
"I hope so. I will be too. Count on it." Marble says to Derpy.
Derpy nods. She slides the coffee back over to Marble. "While here in palace, is any can do?"
"Um... dooooooo you have my mail?" Marble asks.
Derpy looks startled. She shakes her head. "Not mail today." With a bump of her side, she shakes her satchel.
"Okay. Well... I have work to do... perhaps you'd better get back to work, yourself." Marble says supportively.
Derpy sighs and slumps. Then straightens. "Thank you Marble. Doctor Cakes?" She tilts her head. "Is relation to Pumpkin and Oat Cracker? I mean Carrot Cup?"
"Not as far as I know." Marble says distractedly taking the first piece of paper and filling it out.
"But Cakes!" says Derpy.
"Cakes, not Cake. Different family." Marble says, looking up at Derpy. "I haven't found any connection."
Derpy says, "All right. I will find and prove." Derpy walks to Marble and sets her head on his shoulder. "You are hard work," she says.
Marble hugs Depy and kisses her cheek. "I promise, I'll help Sky Blue."
Derpy rubs for a second and then walks out.
