Yeah, bad timing for me. Finally my day off (Friday) so can stay up late tonight and get extra time on tomorrow, and can't even get on.
Doing a traceroute, it does look like there are some bad networking issues somewhere.

Anyone else having trouble getting onto the muck? I can sometimes connect, and sometimes get partly in, but it's very very slow, and disconnects me right away. And I've tried from more than one connection. :-P

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Fri Jan 13 19:58 It's Friday the 13th! Watch out, ponyfolks, because bad luck is looming around every corner. Today's the day to have some fun with your character by having some (lighthearted) bad luck. Thanks to Nettleglum and Luna for the idea, and to Nettleglum for today's special descriptions in the Market and Town Square! - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
Ponyville Square #=#=#=#=#=# PONYVILLE SQUARE #=#=#=#=#=# At the heart of Ponyville stands a proud and massive pavillion known as Town Hall, and around it the town square, a well-kept ring decorated with tall banners and the occasional picturesque bush. A fountain, municipal tents in an amiable ring, and a meandering stream make a pleasant backdrop for the center of town. Yet there's something a little different about the town on this day-- perhaps it's the low, looming clouds that seem to have escaped pegasus control, or the sudden sightings of lurking black cats all over Ponyville, or that hint of clammy disaster in the air. It's /Friday the Thirteenth/. The winds are prone to sudden, hat-and-scarf-snatching gusts, and there's far too many open ladders and gaping draincovers around town as the local Roof and Sewer inspectors go carelessly about their business. Pies on windowsills, and somepony has been eating many, many bananas from the looks of the peels scattered about the streets. Watch yourselves, folks!
The time is: 12:10amFirefly spirals in as she examines some of the escaped clouds. Seems the local weather teams were getting sloppy sloppy sloppy. Banking under one such cloud she careens back towards the market, hesitating before landing at the scent of,,,hmmm...pie. Before you is a pegasus who is not from Cloudsdale or Ponyville. This pony is from a long ways off, having decided to remain in Ponyville after visiting for a while. Firefly has a taste for fun, so long as fun is fast or dangerous...or funny. Her fur is a solid pink, a few shades darker than carnation with an azure mane and tail. Her wings are mostly pink with some azure feathers along the trailing edges and rim, like an outline. Upon her flank is her cutie mark, two parallel lightning bolts in a sparkling ocean blue, a symbol of her love for speed.
She is currently wearing her fancy anklets, around her ankles thin metallic blue bands glitter softly. From her left ear flits a single blue feather with a small yellow bar on one half of it. The feather is a deep purple to match her violet eyes, the small silver ring holding it to her ear helps set it off.
Her necklace...this is unusual. A thin gold chain with a little ebon pendant dangling from it, upon which a set of azure lightning bolts that match her cutie mark glitter...a single small bolt set on either side of a slightly larger white crescent moon, the entire thing trimmed in a thin golden border. Yes, she is a filly of the Night, bearing the symbol of her Princess Luna proudly.

All in cadaverous black, with coat buttoned up her chin, Nettleglum slouches... er... cheerily along the streets, a ragged, skeletal umbrella over one shoulder, shaking in the stiff winter breeze. It threatens to turn inside out, yet somehow never quite does. She looks quite happy in her stiff, waxwork way, watching the lovely black cats and the peaceful churning dark clouds. What a perfect Friday the Thirteenth! Nettleglum - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Nettleglum is about a head taller than the average filly, lean and somewhat grave, with a carriage of innocent foreboding. Her hide is a shade of purple so dark that light itself cannot escape the surface, except when it feels like it, with a long and lank mane of the same mixed shades of sable, ebon, and jet that make for cheerful decor, tightly pulled back and parted down the center of her forehead, a ropelike braid dangling on either side just behind her rather pointed ears. Her tail shows much the same sense of style, though the braid is thicker and longer, lacking only the hangmare's noose on the end to complete the image. Add a doleful and straight-faced expression sure to liven any occasion, and violet eyes, slightly pointed up at the corners, and a cutie mark on her flank showing a tangled knot of sharp-thorned brambles in dark greens and blues. She's wearing a stiffly starched white Victorian collar above a silvery vest the color of a thunderstorm. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
Dusk, being up and about a bit earlier than his usual, figures to take a look about town while others might actually still be up, for a change. He wanders through, checking out the lively shops and smells of food and other things. The black pony crosses Nettleglum's path before noticing her as well. "Oh, Greetings.. Lady Nettleglum, if I recall. It was good to meet you at the recent picnic." Dusk - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Your eyes fall over the fairly big and strong form of the unicorn stallion before you, Dusk's coat a deep black, but with a luminescent sheen to it, catching even the softest light, highliting the various shapes and contours of his body. Depending on the lighting, at first you might almost mistake his mane and tail to be black as well, but you quickly notice they are a deep shade of violet. Both are fairly basic in style, free flowing, and full. The loose "bangs" of his mane somewhat obscure his face, but you can easily make out the reflective, much brighter violet eyes beneeth, as well as the protruding black spiral horn. Glancing further back, upon his flank is a horizontal line, above it is the last remnants of a setting sun, with several specks of stars above that. BlueFeather:slinks in, as quietly and inconsicuasly as she can, keeping to the shadows, and out of sight, trying not to look like shes keeping out of sight. That might not be near as easy as she would hope, considering shes limping quite a bit, forleg still in a cast, held up, and her three leged gait a little rough and noisyer than she likes. BlueFeather - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - A pegasis, fured and feathered in a soft sky blue. There really is not a much that could be considered as remarkable about her looks, rather she is but shades of blue. Her mane and tail are a deeper darker blue, with a few thin streaks of allmost white, and a few thin streaks of allmost black. It might also be noticed that she is rather young to be out and about on her own, wings not quite grown enough to alow her to really fly. Currently, she is well wraped in banages, covering many scrapes and cuts over most of her body. Her wings are firmly wraped and bound down to her flanks to hopefully prevent her from injruying her wings again. Her right foreleg is in a large heavy looking cast. Her chest is well wraped with tight bandages as well, perhaps to help with a cracked rib or something. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
Nettleglum's head almost creaks when it turns. "Oh-- yes, you are Fluttershy's friend, Dusk... a charming time of the day, do please call me Nettie. Isn't it just delightful out today?" There's a muted /thud/ from somewhere down the lane as an incautious pony falls into an open draincover. He seems all right, though perhaps a bath would be in order... A cat, black as sin, hissing like a teakettle, crosses Nettie's path. She almost seems to smile. Firefly alights carefully by a booth, flicking her wings as she looks around. This was poitively awesome. She looks from cats to pies to....things....on the ground. Dusk gives a smile and nods to the glum pony. "Why thank you. I do enjoy it as wel. And yes, seems we are having some.. interesting weather as well," he says, noting the goings on about the stray clouds and zipping pegasi. His attention is momentarily taken by the cries of the pony falling into the open hole, but then sees he's fine. However he then notices BlueFeather as he looks over that way. How lucky for her. He waves, "Miss Blue! Have you walked all the way from Lady Fluttershy's?" He does notice her condition. Perhaps good that she's in town. Can get her bangages checked perhaps. BlueFeather is likely to complain, a lot, if Dusk takes her to the hospital again, but, its unlikely she would get away with more than whining if he does deside to. She winces a little as shes spotted, she was only a couple steps away from snagging a pie! Still, she thinks it can wait, and limps slowly over to where Dusk is standing "Well, of course," agrees Nettie flatly, moving away from Dusk and towards an open ladder as most ponies might a sprig of mistletoe on Hearthwarming. "I do so hope for some bad luck today, it wouldn't be Friday the Thirteenth without some." She trots briskly under the ladder and towards a banana peel, but just before her hoof connects, another pony, exiting a shop, steps onto it, skidding across the lane and into a snowbank. Nettleglum looks... disappointed. That was her peel. ._. Firefly turns in time to see somepony plunge into the hole in the ground. This actually makes her laugh a bit. She sniffs at teh pie scents and extends her wings, lifting up to hover across the market, watching this and that and the other. Sometimes twice. Dusk smiles as Blue comes on over, and gives her a soft greeting nuzzle. "And how are you today, Miss Blue? You seem to be getting quite about at least." And leans in and speaks more softly, "Just do be careful not to overdo it. You know Fluttershy will worry." He grins, then more openly, "Looking a bit hungry. Did you wish a bite to eat?" He turns back to watch Nettie, and does clearly notice the interation. Hmmm.. He gets an idea. Subtly he magics in a mirror precariously balanced next to cart Nettie is walking by, though facing away, so don't see the shiny side. BlueFeather stalks slowly over to Dusk and leans against him a little, he can probably feel her tremble a little, it is rather a long walk for a broke leged little filly to make, but shes not seen Fluttershy recently and she wants something to eat other than straw and old oats. Nettleglum is peering up at the ladder she's under as though it were defective. It's deficient in vitamin jinx. She straightens up and trots under it again, veering close to the cart with the mirror. The pony minding the cart politely raises his hat as she passes, only to have the wind snatch it from his hoof and send him back to knock over the mirror Dusk rebalanced! *Krash!* Nettie, a few feet away, stamps one hoof. Now that's /not fair/! Why does /he/ get to have a broken mirror today!? Hmmprh! Firefly winces as something over this way crashes into tinkling bits. Something broke, and she was not involved. This was going to be a great day. Dusk smiles to Blue and orders her a bit to eat, including a slice of pie included. "Eat the dinner first!" he grins. He then hears the crash and looks back with a smile, only to turn it down, seeing it wasn't Nettie who knocked it down. Well this is quite a thing! "Well I wish you the worse of luck then, Nettie, if don't mind my saying." He does find it a rather curious thing to say. BlueFeather blinks and cocks her head, thinks back a momant, wait, did Dusk offer her food? She blinks again when food is offered to er, and rather tentativly partakes, rather too quickly perhaps eating everything, even licking the plate clean, before she dives into the pie, its little plate soon just as polished as the bigger plate. She hickups a little, then plops down to lay down right where she is, not seeming to care that she might be in the way, or endangered by blocking a potential walkway or something The wind gusts sharply. The airborne hat veers into a flowerpot, bounces and rolls over a windowsill into a few pies, and splats into the fountain. Sput. Splat, splut. Crunch. Splooch. Nettleglum runs briskly-- quicker then she usually moves-- to get under the falling debris, but when all is said and done, there's a bizarre pony-shaped patch of clean street under her, surrounded by broken flowerpots, pie crust, filling, and potting soil. o.o Not a trace of it on her anywhere. Firefly hovers higher, looping around to catch one flung pie, since it was about to be destroyed anyways, why not swipe it and land on a low cloud. Dinner and a show. This was one Ponyville festival she rather liked. Dusk chuckles softly, but smiles even more warmly as the hungry little Blue eats so happily. "Very nice." He stands there besides her, letting he relax as well. He watches Nettie, and even tries to give a falling piece of food a little magic push in her direction.. But that overshoots and splatters into the wall behind her. BlueFeather just lays there and relaxes, letting her meal settle, and looking around. She cocks her head a little, and can't help but augh at Nettie, but other than that, she really does nothing more than watch. Nettleglum trudges back towards Dusk and Bluefeather, tail and ears down. She seems to stumble slightly along a patch of turf that winter missed, a bit of the weeds clinging to one hoof. "How dreadful... not one bit of bad luck... hmmmph..." Lowering her gaze to regard the little splot of green, her eyes dilate. She. No. She found a /four leaf clover/. Gasp! Can today get any worse for the poor dark pony? Firefly remains on her cloud, just enjoying this. It seems an unusual thing here in POnyville, but hey, PInkie lived here. A pegasus of blue and white comes out of the clouds a little fast. She seems to be making a good landing all the same until upon hitting the ground, she finds her hooves meet with a sheet of ice she certainly didn't see there before. "Oh not again!" She wails as she slides along the street trying to stop with no luck. Icy_Breeze - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Icy Wind is not the a pony with the warmest, or brightest, look. This pegasus has a powder blue coat and wings, and a ghost white mane and tail. Her eyes are a minty green, following the theme perhaps. She is of an average size and figure, though kept somewhat trim no doubt from time spent in the air. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
Dusk shakes his head at the poor Nettleglum.. Or should he say unfortunately fortunate Nettie? Well seems nothing that can be done about it! He watches, giving a little chuckle to himself, not realizing more than one of the pies from the sill has gone way up into the air, only one being caught by Firefly. He has no clue as Nettie comes up to him and Blue and he's about to say something to her, mouth partly open, when.. *Ker-Sploot!* His head is covered in pie! He blinks and licks.. Cherry? BlueFeather blinks and cocks her head, not noticing the pies, rather taking a bit of a look at the stranger earth pony, her tail giving a little flick. Shes not really noticed eather of the pegasi yet, having been distracted with food and other things, probably a good thing all things considered. Nettleglum blinks at Dusk. Well, he's a nice pony; she won't be jealous. She won't be jealous. Pulling up the corners of her mouth in a rictus, she dabs at the dripping filling with a hoof-- that's a lovely color, too. She bets it stains, le sigh. "Well, that's... I'm glad somepony is enjoying today, at least." That's when Icy_Breeze shoots past her at mach bazillion. Icy patch on the street! Why didn't Nettie think of that!? Nursing happy thoughts of a spill in the mud, she begins to scan the street for a nice slick patch! There, that one looks good! Optimistic, she murmurs a "Wait a moment," at Dusk and starts galloping for it. Sure! Running quickly on a slick street in the winter! What could possibly go right? Firefly remains on her cloud, nodding off. Firefly blasts off in a streak of light nad a low rumble of thunder towards the Everfree forest. There's a loud crashing noise from somewhere down the street followed by the sound of something falling; sounds like -something- stopped that pegasus. Dusk just stands there just looking through ozzing pie, just his eyes showing through it. He nods to Nettie, giving it another lick. At least it's fresh and tasty.. And.. ooo.. a tad bit hot! Ow! He can help relfexivingly shaking it off as it starts to burn, sending pie flying all directions around him, getting many ponies walking nearby, but missing Nettie as she just quickly walks off moments before. BlueFeather is probably lucky enough to be close enough that it mostly misses her as well, though shes not really paying a whole lot of attention, nore does she seem to mind if she does get splattered with any. Shes not exactly very keen on grooming herself as it is, whats a little pie mixxed in with the dirt and the straw and other stuff Nettleglum's plan for bad luck seems to be going swimmingly at first, as her hooves suddenly skid on the ice as planned, her whole body spinning like a cart with stuck brakes. For a moment she looks blandly smug as her path takes her down the street towards the muddy snowbanks. This time, for sure! Meanwhile, she can't see the two burly stallions delivering a new fainting couch to Rarity's store. A black cat darts past one and he drops his end of the sofa, which slips wildly on the ice in a spin... and as neatly choreographed as any ballet, the sofa scoops Nettie safely off her hooves, sliding her smoothly and cleanly along the street until the sofa pulls to a gentle halt just in front of Dusk, the dark mare as safe as in her own bed of nails at home. "I... that... ooooooh." Pinkie_Pie tumbles into the Square. "Whoa! Whooooa!" she squeaks, tail and ears and legs twitching erratically! Pinkie_Pie - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
Okayokayokay. What do I look like? I'm a pony! A pony the color of cotton candy! I mean, cotton candy can be all sorts of colors, but you know that special type of pink that pink cotton candy is? That's what color I am! And it's not even because of all the cotton candy I eat! I was that color already. My hair is pink, but it's a totally different pink. It's bubblegum pink! And it's all springy and coiled up and bouncy like chewed up bubblegum and it curls all over the place, and I love it! My eyes are blue, and I can't think of any candy that's specially blue, but maybe something will come to me. Now, since I look like candy, and I smell like candy (It's this totally awesome new perfume called Frostinge! The e on the end means it's French! That's a town in Fancy!) you might think a sweet little filly like me has a candy cutie mark! No, sir! My cutie mark is balloons, because candy maybe dandy, but helium makes me squealium! No fun time is as fun a time without balloons, and I've got balloons on my butt, so I know it's true! Did I miss anything? Colts tell me I've got got really fillylylyly eyelashes, and a little bitty nose!
Maybe haiku will express my essence best!

Icy_Breeze has a coating of soot when she reappears, limping a little as she comes back up the street. She's also sneezing every few steps. "Not my finest landing..." She mutters out loud, but she seems not to be seriously hurt. Dusk blinks through muchly cleared face now, though some bits of cherry still stuck in his mane, and indeed some red coloring stuck in his fur, though harder to tell against the black. He glances down, seeing Nettie all laid out looking actually very comfortable and safe laying on the couch. Back just in time to have missed all the flying pie as well. Where'd that come from? "Oh! Um.. Looking comfortable there.. Nettie." HAnd indeed just a splot of cherry has landed right on Blue's nose. She can smell the cherry. He also glances over, seeing the sooty Icy trodding back over from her accident. Well at least she looks okay too. BlueFeather rubs her unbroken foreleg over her nose, wich just smears the pie bits into her fur, not seeming to care or notice too much. Her tail flicks and she cocks her head a little, then chuckles softly, "Bad luck filly." She chirps softly, her tail giving a little bit of a flick. Nettleglum looks... well, like most other ponies today. Stunned by her dreadfully wonderful luck. It seems like nobody is having a good Friday the Thirteenth, even her. "I cannot believe this. Is there /nothing/ that won't go right for me today? It's terrible!" A fresh, steaming hot muffin lands neatly in her lap as a tray is upended down the street, the others blopping on heads, skittering under hooves, and generally getting in everypony's way. For Nettie, there's not even a crumb on her. Pinkie_Pie looks as if she's doing a bizarre gypsy dance as much as anything as she cartwheels down the street dizzily. "Ack! Twitcha twitch! Flying pies!" she squeaks, one narrowly missing her as she tumbles by. "Left ear and twinge in right hoof, wayward muffins!" she chirps, het frantically moving feet landing everywhere the muffins aren't. "Three quarters of a limbo! Holey sheet!" she squeals, sliding on her hooves across the sheet of ice, neatly avoiding the jagged hole in the middle of it. Dusk gives Blue a little ruffle of her head as she rests besides him. He watches Nettie there too, lamenting her good luck. "I.. could push you down a ponyhole?" he tries to helpfully offer. Not that that would likely go right.. er wrong.. either. But his attention is taken by the wild looking pink twitching pony.. "Err.. Are you alright, Miss?" He recognises her as the pony at the local confection shop he stopped in for a birthday treat for himself the other day. She was certainly energetic, but he hadn't seen anything quite like this. BlueFeather just cocks her head, flinching at first as the pink pony moves closer, then relaxing when she sees its an earth pony. She gives a little shake of her head, to help settle her mane and keep it out of her eyes, not because shes trying to keep it in anything like order. Her attention returns to the momant on Nettie, whos having a rather bad string of good luck evadently, and she says softly, "Ground pony have luck so bad it is good." "Thank you, Dusk, that's a very kind offer... but it wouldn't be the same." Standing, Nettie glumly offers the nice warm muffin over to Bluefeather as she decides to cut her... gains... and head for home. If she's not careful she'll find a buried treasure or a winning lottery ticket in a snowbank. Bah. "This is the worst Friday the Thirteenth I can ever recall..." Pinkie skids past, the pink hooves sending a sheet of slushy melt-water spraying the couch Nettie was on just seconds before! Euugh! >.< Displaying more emotion than anyone's seen from her to date, the dark purple mare actually frowns, yes, she does! Her mouth quirks down almost a whole quarter of an inch. Clearly she's close to tears. "If anyone needs me I'll be standing in the middle of Runaway Cart Hill." Hey, a pony can dream, can't she? Pinkie_Pie quivers, and her body jerks, flipping a hoof out to one side, drawing it back, flipping out the other hoof. She half-turns, reaches up, and the hoof that's not pointing pushes her hair forward over her face like a hat. Only then does she blink and seem to realize what she's done. "Ooooh, no. ZOMBIES." Dusk chuckles and smiles to Blue. "I think you may have someting there!" But of course Nettie has already left before she can figure out that her good luck is bad. More poor timing for her. He blinks, and looks quizically at the pink pony.. "Zombies? My dear miss, my mistake as well, but Miss Nettie is no.." At which there is yet another loud crash, louder most of the others. And suddenly streaming from one of the buildings there are... Zombie ponies streaming out, moaning and creeping forward!" (A flying moving company has dropped a supply of medical sedation tanks into the local threater having a Fri 13th Zombie marathon.) BlueFeather cocks her head a little and looks up at Dusk, "I got a what?" She asks softly, her tail giving another little flick. She eather does not mind, or does not notice the sticky red smer on the top of her muzzle, nore does she give a lot of attention to the 'zombie' ponys. She does not know what a zombie is to begine with Pinkie_Pie moonwalks in front of the shambling ponies, and starts dancing to distract them. They all start copying her moves as she jitters and pops. "Eeee-heee! Shapony!" she squeals. Dusk keeps a concerned eye on the zombies, but then sees as they.. break into dance? Well doesn't even seem to be the oddest of things, so far. He smiles to Blue, "That her good luck is really her bad luck. But alas it seems she ran off before could figure that out too." He magicly takes a cloth, and cleans off Blue's muzzle, striking against the fact he still has even more bits of pie left on himself than her. The time is: 3:36am

Shortly after the wonderful Power Ballad concert in the Ponyville Market on January 15, 2012.Mirage keeps glancing at Firefly as she flits from house to house.... what is she doing? She watches as Barker leads Fairgrounds away, feeling very sorry not only for his injury, but that he didn't even get Power Ballad's autograph. Well, not to himself, anyway. She listens to Dusk with a gentle nod. "I'm orginally from Manehatten, but Ponyville is my residence, unless I manage to burn it down," she says as she magicks the torch into a coat pocket before it causes more mischief. "May I ask where your home is?" Mirage - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - You see an adult female unicorn of typical size and build. Her body is a pretty medium gray while her mid-length mane and tail are white and carefully groomed in a fashionable uptown Manehattan style. Her eyes are sea green and seem almond shaped due to her normal expression of half lidding her eyes. The color of her eyes matches the color of her magic, a sea green sparkling shimmer around her horn, and around any objects she magically manipulates. Her cutie mark is a tan and green palm tree next to a small pool of blue water. Her voice pitch is a bit low but quite feminine, and she speaks in a cultured tone. She wears a thin black choker necklace, and carries a small purse. Today she wears a long, sturdy, but fashionable winter trenchcoat, metropolitan in style, white with subtle gold trim. The coat covers her shoulders and forelegs, and is long enough to also cover her back, dock, haunches, flanks and hindlegs. She also wears white winter boots and a pretty faux fur winter hat. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Firefly eventually hovers out into the market again, carrying a pie.

He spends a good portion of his time on the road, pulling a large Wagon of Wonders behind him, with the help of his twin brother, Barker. The two look remarkably alike, sharing a love of amusements and games; the only difference between them being their cutie marks. Barker has an image of a pony wearing a Panama hat and speaking into a megaphone. Fairground sports a Ferris Wheel with sparkling spokes. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Dusk smiles back gently, nodding as well. "Ah Manehatten! Quite a big bustling pony city. And you find yourself here in the extreamly quaint, by comparison, town of Ponyville. Were you looking for something different perhaps? Oh, and I usually move as my research requires. I travel rather large distances. Thoug.. I do suppose I find myself here as well, for the forseeable future." He eyes Firefly as well. He smiles. Seems she must have found what she was looking for. Dusk - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - [Dusk just looked in your direction!] Your eyes fall over the fairly big and strong form of the unicorn stallion before you, Dusk's coat a deep black, but with a luminescent sheen to it, catching even the softest light, highliting the various shapes and contours of his body. ( Intro and pic: goo.gl/QDJYM ) - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Mirage gives Firefly a quizzical look, but decides she's just getting a snack and not planning on attacking someone with the baked weapon. She smiles as Barker returns. "I'm not sure who does the building," she says with a gentle smile. "But don't you travel as part of your business?" she asks, waving a forehoof to the brothers' well equiped wagon. "Yes, very large, very energetic," she says with a bit of homesickness to Dusk. "The thatched roofs and little hearths take a little getting used to, I must admit." She pauses before continuing, thinking a bit. "Yes, I came here because I'm looking for something I couldn't find back home. I thought that if this is the place the Elements of Harmony came from, then maybe what I'm looking for could be here, too." Firefly glides in to land at an unoccupied cafe table, sweeping any snow off of it with a wing, then setting the pie down carefully. "Yes, we do travel," he says, "but we also don't travel all year. And this place has just been so welcoming. Where else would you make your home?" Dusk smiles, "Oh, I hope then that you do find what you are looking for. Striking out to seek what you are looking for can be quite fruitful, but usually only if you're persistant and patient. Are you looking for anything particular?" he asks Mirage. Watching Firefly with the rather nice looking pie, he gets a little peckish himself, though doesn't seek anything himself just yet. Barker trots around, ponyhugging everypony present. "Well, it is bedtime for some ponies. Good night, and thank you." Mirage watches Firefly briefly, unwilling to let her guard completely down for now. She smiles and chuckles to Barker. "You've got me there," she admits with a bashful grin. "This village is much more welcoming than I would have imagined, and there doesn't seem to be another town nearby except for Canterlot itself, but regardless I think Ponyville is much more than it seems." She smiles to Dusk. "Well, that is part of the problem. I don't know exactly what I'm looking for. I only know that whatever jobs I had, I always had a feeling of emptyness, that perhaps I wasn't doing what I should be doing. I suppose you could say I'm looking for purpose, but I'm not sure that's the right way to say it." Mon Jan 16 05:28:37 GMT 2012Firefly rotates the pie carefully, examining the edges and crust trim slowly, leaning in closer still to eyeball it ever so carefully in detail. Mirage isn't quite sure what to think about Firefly's careful examination of the pie, but brightens as she remembers something. "Lord Dusk, do you teach magic?" she asks the stallion. Dusk nods to Mirage, "No I believe I get the idea. And then I do feel you have done the right thing. Purpose, people that care for each other, being able to do something that means something to those around you. Those and others are things I believe you will find much easier here than Manehatten. I, if might be so bold, would suggest seeking out friendly ponies, helping with those you can, and you might just stumble across what you seek. That is, if not what you're already doing, of course! Have you been in Ponyville long?" Mmm that is a rather tasty looking pie. Perhaps Firefly is pondering the eternal quandary of having ones pie and eating it too. He turns back to Mirage, and sort of quirks his head, "Well in ways, yes. I study it, and try to pass on things that I can." Firefly lifts her head quizzically, then abandons said pie, flying off to hover around more window sills, sniffing and searching again. Mirage listens very carefully to Dusk, her expression changing to one of introspection. "Thank you very much for your advice, sir. I hadn't thought much along those lines, I tend to be more swept along by events than anything else, but I will try to do as you recommend," she says with a small but polite bow of her head. "I ask about the teaching because of Clockwork. She mentioned she would like to learn more ways of using her magic. Teleportation or some other tricks, I believe." She wonders at Firefly.... the first pie seemed fine from what she could see of it. Dusk hmmms to himself as Firefly just leaves the pie. Had hadn't thought she'd decide on *neither* having nor eating one's pie. Intersting. He smiles back to Mirage, "I am sure you will do well, as long as you follow your heart. And ah, I would be glad to help what I can. You are a unicorn yourself. You must practice some magic of your own, yes?" Firefly zips about from place to place, darting around various houses, vanishing down one street and gliding back up another, banking to curve out of sight yet again on this quest. slowing to pause and eyeball the first pie once in a while, then continuing on. Mirage just arches an eyebrow as Firefly continues her hunt... for what? The perfect pie? Then she gives Dusk an awkward smile, dipping her ears a bit and absentmindedly swishing her tail. "Oh, I have my own magic, of course. Mostly tied to my talent," she says, slightly embarrassed. "But I'm not a great spell user by any means. I don't have anything to teach, which is why I asked you. You seem to be very experienced." Dusk smiles, and gives her head a little supportive nuzzle as she droops it down, "Well thank you, Lady Mirage. Well I am still curious. Would it be too much if I inquired as to the nature of your talent then?" He grins too, "Though I consider myself mostly a student as well, as you can learn something for most anypony. Firefly's hunt continues, only now she peeks inside open windows here and there, looking along windowsills more closely that before, along the edges, underneath them, around them. After a while she returns with another pie, pumpkin, liked with thick heavy cream. Like the apple, she very carefully sets it on the table, like the apple pie, never doing more than eyeing the rim as she rotates it slowly, then once again abandons them to continue the search. Mirage glances at Firefly as she seems to be set on searching the whole village for pies. What will she do when she runs out of village to search? She lifts her head and smiles to Dusk. "I've never been very good at any of the traditional magic, spells and such. Even my telekinesis is rather weak compared to most others," she says before looking Dusk directly in the eyes. "But my talent?" she pauses briefly as she looks into your eyes, "I give ponies what they want." Dusk's glances follows off after Firefly too, then back to Mirage, giving a shrug as neither of them seem to know what's going on there. He gives her a smile though, "Oh? That sounds so very nice! So your magic allows you to help others with what they seek?" Mirage gives a little shake of her head, and her tail swishes a bit, but her eyes never leave Dusk's. "Not quite, My Lord. If you could be anywhere now, where would you like to be? Or, if anyone could be with you now, who would you like to see?" Firefly sweeps over to her pies, boxes them and puts them in her saddlebag, and rockets up into the night skies. Dusk nods, smiling back into those nice sparling green eyes. "Hmmm well if perhaps just for the day, there is this one somewhat secluded place that is heated by underground thermals, making it pleasant and vibrant all year. So that would probable be a place to stay on a day like this. Though too, Ponyville is where I need to be." He doesn't seem to have an answer about a particular person, or at least not that he mentions. Mirage tilts her ears slighty as she gazes into your eyes. "Close enough, Lord Dusk," she says softly. Her horn flashes briefly with a sea-green glow, and in a heartbeat the wintery Ponyville market is replaced by the secluded place you mentioned. You feel the warmth from the underground thermals and as you look around, all is just as you remember it. Mirage glances at the new surroundings. "Nice," she remarks. "Where is this?" Dusk looks about, having to break the gaze, but is still quite amazed. Indeed, the steamy rising pools, the quite green trees and other plants, and the small animals that live about the area. "Wonderful! Are we actually here?" He takes a few steps around, the ground feeling real, and even the scent. "Oh, we're on a island far out at sea. There are some caves not far off that lead down underground as well. Some seafaring ponies had encountered it, but no regular inhabitants." Mirage smiles as she sees your are pleased, stepping aside so you can take in the surroundings. "We are as 'here' as you want us to be, My Lord," she replies in a friendly and gentle tone, obviously having relaxed quite a bit with the new local. "My last job was selling time shares in the Mareabbean Islands, but I don't recall any looking quite this lush. Of course, most of my clients were interested in beach front properties," she explains as she dips a forehoof carefully into one of the pools, testing the temperature, and then pausing to enjoy the myriad scents. "You've seen much more of the world than I have, obviously. Are you happy here?" Dusk smiles and ahs.. "So if say, some actual sailor pony came to this island now, then we would be there with them? I can imagine you must have done quite well at your job then." He smiles, and enjoying how you relax and look around the nice place too. "And yes, this is very nice. I suppose while we're here, perhaps I can show you around a bit, if you'd like. It indeed has lots of beachfront if you head out to the shores. But you might not wish to swim in it this time of year!" He grins softly. The pool is very clear and actually on the rather warm side to the touch, but not scalding or uncomfortable. It might be as if a nice hot bath. A small frog skitters off at your touch, out of the water and into some vegitation. Mirage dips her head and smiles back to you. "Only if you wanted the sailor to be here," she replies, enjoying your smile and the pleasure you're feeling. "I'd be happy for you to show me around, Lord Dusk. Remember, I've never been here, and I would be happy to be your guest." She glances at her heavy winter coat and shakes her head slightly. "This will never do," she remarks, and in a moment, the coat, hat and boots are replaces by a brightly colored sarong. A flower now adorns one of her ears, and a flowery braclet is wrapped around one of her hind hoofs. "Better," she remarks, then looks at you expectantly. Dusk is enjoying the visit as well. "Ah so this is, sort of a copy of what I had in mind? Can you do the same if say, the person was thinking of a wholy mythical place?" He smiles as you change into something more fitting to the location, and he starts to walk around with you. It seems to be a largely untouched area. He walks you out to a hill in a more open area, where you can see out to the shore. The tropical vegitation only stretches so far, before tapering off into more barren ground. In fact you can see bits of ice floating out a ways into the waters. But turning the other way leads to more pleasant terain. Mirage gives a little nod to your question. "This place is exactly as you remember it, or want it to be," she replies softly but with a reassuring smile. "Or I can show you whatever you want to see. It's all your choice, My Lord. I don't have anything to do with the content beyond myself." She seems quite surprised when she sees the bits of ice out in the ocean. "An arctic island? How exotic!" she exclaims, turning and grinning to you. "What a wonderful place you discovered!" Dusk ahs and nods, thinking he understands the basics of it at least now. "It is truely a wonderful and unique talent you have. Do not belittle yourself of your magic, Lady Mirage!" And he smiles, giving an appreciately bow of his own head. "And thank you as well! Yes, I find it a delightful place. I suppose one of the advanates when one travels enough." He chuckles softly. Then he more calmly glances out and smiles. "I enjoy such inbetween and contrasting moments. Where one extream can become the other. I am glad you are enjoying it as well!" Mirage begins to reply to your comments, but then pauses and looks around, enjoying this remarkable place. "I would think a tropical island in a frozen sea would be as much a contrast as one could find," she replies as she follows you along, pauses now and again to examine the flora and fauna. "And yes, I am enjoying myself very much. I am happy that you are happy." Dusk walks along with you, taking the time to walk you around to some of the more interesting places.. Another hot water pond, this one more shallow, with sands. The water seems to bubble up in small gushes, causing it to spread out as light waves, washing out to the edge of the sands, before drawing back in. He chuckles softly at your comment, "Indeed, is is one of them. But you might be surprised, they are around at almost all moments, even back at Ponyville, both small and large. Day to night. The steam of hot tea rising against falling snow flakes on a winter day.." As we speak, the way he's taking seems to be come less of a path and more wending downhill along thickening vegitation. Mirage'ahs' softly as she listens to you and takes in the sights, testing the water here and there with her bare hooves. "Your talent is about contrasts, then," she says with a bemused smile but a look in her eyes that is quite far away. "I should take the time to notice those things..." She continues to follow you down the path. "What is your view on the contrast between the reality and, I suppose the right word would be fantasy?" Dusk smiles more warmly as you seem to grasp the apperciation more deeply. "That would be very nice. Few ponies realize the wonders they might be holding in their very hooves, or walking past without a thought." He nods too, "And indeed, you could say that is my talent. And magic is on of those great constrasts too. Something not existing one moment, and there the next. Or changed to something totally different. Magic is that very point, that edge, where one becomes the other." He listens to your question as well. "Do you mean as in like where we are now? I think this is a wonderful constrast, and I am enjoying both the constrasts of the place we are, the the constasts that the magic you use create, yes." He smiles. Mirage nods slowly. "I see. I'll try to look for these things, then. Perhaps they will help. You see," she pauses and considers that yes, you would understand. "I find myself preferring the fantasy to the reality. I can give anypony what they want, but not what they need." She pauses, waving a forehoof to encompass the wonderful island. "The moment you doubt this, or no longer wish to see it, it's all gone." Dusk nods, "So your magic faclicates it, but doesn't direct it. But then that should at least make it a little easier for you, as you don't have to think the whole thing up yourself." He grins. But he nods more seriously too, "And there is nothing wrong with that. Sometimes the fantasy is what a pony needs, at least for a moment, before they have to get back to reality. As long as you don't allow it to take over, and shirk the things you need." Mon Jan 16 08:22:35 GMT 2012
** And then it got late and we had to stop for the night. If it's continued, then will post the rest later.

INVITATION to a Midnight Picnic! ;D Fluttershy and myself would like to invite all to a casual, fun Midnight Picnic this Sunday evening/night, when the moon will be becoming full. We will have a new area, out by the hilly pond seen in Griffon the Brush-Off and the like, in nighttime winter splendor, to celebrate and enjoy the beautiful night together. Thinking roughly after midnight muck time (e.g. 7pm Eastern), based on feedback as well. You need bring nothing more than yourself, though feel free to bring anything to share or enjoy. All are invited, even royalty. Directions: Ponyville Market -> Fluttershy's Cottage -> Road to Canterlot -> Hilly Country Log of the event where the idea originated.

Nothing too serious, but a pleasant, easy-going event that has lead to the idea of the Midnight Picnic. The Invitation to which will be posted shortly! In the meantime, enjoy.
The night of Tuesday, December 27th, 2011.
Ponyville Square #=#=#=#=#=# PONYVILLE SQUARE #=#=#=#=#=# At the heart of Ponyville stands a proud and massive pavillion known as Town Hall. Around it lies the town square, a well-kept ring decorated with tall banners and the occasional picturesque bush. A fountain sits before the entrance to the hall with a joyous, reared-up earth pony statue as its ornament. Various municipal officials have pitched colorful, conical tents in the square from which they run their operations. The town square is lined along one side by a stream crossed by a broad stone bridge, while on its other sides it's surrounded by a combination of commercial establishments and some of the oldest houses in Ponyville. The mood here is generally cheerful but officious.
Dusk wanders into the square, having left Surgarcube Corner and visiting Pinkie until it was her bedtime too. Even she runs out of sugar power. He sees a pony, recognising Fluttershy.
Fluttershy yaaawns deeply, peering down into her latest cup of warm tea. She flicks her tail back and forth, accidentally dusting herself with snow, but as she turns back to brush it off, she sees.... "O-oh, um...hello, Dusk."
Dusk clops up faintly in the lightly falling slow. Seeing Fluttershy still up, he smiles and goes on over. "Much greetings, lovely Lady Fluttershy. And how does this night find thee?" He gives just a light nuzzle in greeting, though at least he feels quite warm, having just come from indoors.
Fluttershy smiles softly. The soft moonlight reflecting off her hair and coat tints the snow around her in soft yellow and pink, if a pony were inclined to look hard enough. "I'm feeling fine, thank you. How're you?" She smiles and squints on one side as her friend nuzzles her. "Hot tea?"
Dusk smiles back at Fluttershy, and does indeed catch the overall sight, adding to her gentle radiance. He takes a seat besides her and nods, "Indeed, that sounds nice, thank you. And I am quite glad to hear you are doing well too, as am I. Was off exploring some, but nice to come settle and take one of my usual late walks."
Fluttershy pours Dusk a little bit of tea from her thermos, passing him a fresh cup. "Did you find anything interesting out there? I don't get many chances to leave Ponyville myself..."
Dusk smiles and smells the soft but aromatic scent of the tea, vapory whisps from the heat rising counter up against the lightly falling snow.. A play of contrasts, hot and cold, gas and solid, rising and falling.. All in simple little moment. He nods to Fluttershy, "Mostly learning some of the area, and.. checking some things, that might be. Yes, I do imagine, what with all your critters to take care off, don't even get much time. Perhaps why I often find you about the same hours as myself?"
Fluttershy nods. "Well...you know, that and...sometimes I just like to come out here and relax. Usually, when I come out at night, there are only a few ponies around and things aren't so, um...overwhelming." She takes a deep drink from her own tea, making her next exhalation long and billowy in the frosty air.
Dusk takes a sip of his own, hovering the cup, though no noticable magic glow, as you speak. When he finishes the sip, he gives a very light smack of his lips with an 'ahh,' brushing them lightly with his tongue briefly. He nods, "Indeed, I know what you mean. I find the night to be peaceful, and easy to think. He smiles, glacing up at the small crescent of moon out tonight, broken clouds passing, glowing from behind. "Perhaps sometime we should take a walk together, get a peaceful chance to wander about."
Fluttershy nods, stretching as she stands to shake some loose snow off her feathers and mane. "That sounds like a good idea. Um...did you mean right now, or...?" She looks up and down the street - it's a wonderfully clear and still night, but still, it is night, so where would you go?
Dusk gets to finish up his cup of tea, and returns the cup, if yours, before getting up as well. "Yes, that sounds wonderful. I just didn't wish to rush you." He grins softly. He glances about as well, "It is a lovely night though, yes. We could simply walk about town, seeing as no one out tonight. But seeing as you don't get to get out of town much, and you know the area better than myself, if you could go somewhere, is there anywhere particular you might enjoy, Lady Fluttershy? Otherwise, as to what I do, is just pick a direction, and see where the path leads."
Fluttershy puts a hoof to her chin, smiling up at the starry sky. "Well...usually I go out to the hills, but there is this little pond, with all these cattails around it, that I like to go to to relax when I can. It's probably frozen over right now, but still..."
Dusk ohs and smiles, "Yes that sounds like it would be lovely. Might I escort the lady? Just tell me the way."
Fluttershy points off toward the edge of town, in a different direction from her own cottage and the forest. "It's just up there, over the hills. You'll know it when you see it."
Dusk nods, noting the directions, and sees it's a place he hasn't checked yet. That should be nice. He walks with you off through the town. The streets are so very quiet and empty it's both kind of odd, but also so picturesque and nice, at least having company to do so. The stroll and conversation being quite casusal. The place also seems so different, at night like this. It lends itself to looking around and taking it in more, rather than the bustle of the day, when just pass through, hardly thinking of the place itself. The peaceful buildings. The misc items and occational kids toys layed about, light dusting of snow covering.. Little back paths progressing into wider open areas as move ever closer to the edge of town, until there are few buildings here and there along the path towards the hills, which at least are getting much closer.
It also grows increasingly darker as move out of town, away from the burning lights placed here and about, or light from various windows, and with the moon so relatively small tonight, glinting off the falling snow.
Fluttershy leads the way, but she sticks close as the darkness begins closing in - she might be okay walking around Ponyville at night, but leaving and wandering around the countryside isn't something she'd usually do unless she had a friend with her. If she were alone, she would've turned back by now. Still, the foothills seem peaceful enough right now, and as you crest the top of the next, she smiles and points down at a little patch of what looks like reflected stars. "There it is," Fluttershy beams proudly. "My own little pond."
Dusk quite enjoys the travel with a friend as much as the destination. And while he loves how nice and close you walk together with him, and not to discourage it either, he still uses just a little magic. He leans in a bit, and glancing your way with a nod of his head and a smile, you shortly notice a speck of light.. moving.. A shooting star? Then another and another.. each drifting down slowly.. Soon you notice they are random snowflakes, falling with the others.. Each giving such a small amount of light, but combined and with your eyes adjusted to the night, they make a beautiful effect, and just enough to see the area around, especially as they come down to the ground. "A little something I like to do on a snowy night.. I hope you don't mind."
Fluttershy shakes her head. "Not at all. Look..." She points down at the pond. "It's so beautiful." And it is. Out here, far away from the village lights and the looming city of Canterlot, where there's no stay light to reflect off the clouds, the sky is clear and dark, and looking down into the pond... "It's like my own little piece of sky. I really should come here at night more often."
Dusk's eyes widen a little more too, as we come up over the last hill. Once the pond comes into view, he lets the lighting effect fade off, the last of the illuminate flakes falling to the ground and glowing for a short while before going out.. giving an even clearer view of the effect of the stars off the possibly frozen water.. "Oh, yes that is very lovely! And it's so peaceful and pleasant." He stands there watching it for a while with you besides him. "Thank you so much for offering to bring me here. I would be more than glad to come anytime. Should we go look closer?"
Fluttershy nods. "Of course! I hardly ever get to come out here this late. Usually I just stay in town or even in my own house past dark." She trots down the hill, leaving a neat little trail of regular hoofprints in the snow behind her, and stops at the edge of the pond, giving her wings another good stretch. "This is wonderful...if only I could show...well, everypony how great this is."
Dusk follows along with you, leaving his own trail, and pausing just a little to start, to take in the sight of you, soft yellow and pink figure in the dim moon, walking through the pure snow, other than maybe a tiny trail of a little night critter who has come and gone.. and the lovely reflective pond beyond you.. As if it was a living painting. He simply smiles.. He could stand and just watch for a long time. But also does not wish to keep you waiting or off alone, so snaps too and comes right along. As we reach the edge, he looks around some more, the view different from here, but still quite lovely. The pond feels as if it reaches further, still capturing the stars and moon of the sky, and just faintly the snowflakes, 'rising' to the surface, meeting their counterparts from above in the tinest of ripples. And it's quiet.. So peacefully quiet, other than our voices, and almost no animals heard at all. Dusk smiles, "Ohhh so nice!" He stands there with you. "And yes, that would be nice to share. Maybe.. should have a midnight picnic and invite the others? Perhaps the next full moon?"
Fluttershy's ears perk up. "That...that actually sounds like a great idea. We could invite everypony out here, to just experience this spot and sort of...commune with nature." A bizarrely enthusiastic grin spreads across her face as she speaks those like few words. "I think we should do it. This is a lovely little spot, and it deserves to be recognized so that everypony can experience the joy and help preserve it, right?"
Dusk smiles back to you quite warmly as you take to his idea. "Most certainly! I love the night. It is a beautiful thing. I think you see why Luna wished to share this with all the ponies, and felt bad they did not. I'm glad we can share it, and that you wish to share it with others! Let us plan to make it so!" And with that settled, he spends quite a while with you, enjoying just the lovely sight, and walking a ways around the lake. And even if its quite a new experience for you, and not something you'd usually do on your own, you at least feel safe with him (well maybe the ocasional spooky noise to jump at!). And after spending all that time, exploring as he loves to do, and you can see his joy in it, he does offer to walk back home or to town with you, seeing you starting to get sleepy.
Fluttershy yawns, filling the air with frosty breath from behind her hoof once more. She smiles softly, if blearily, and nods. "Thank you, Dusk. I think this walk is just what I needed." She turns and starts back up the hill, stopping halfway to look back at her perfect little pond, smiling down at the little piece of night sky and up at the moon above. Then she spreads her wings and flutters up to the hilltop - never too far ahead of you, just enough to give her tired legs a rest - and grins over her shoulder. "And...I think we definitely should. Only, maybe not *quite* so late at night." She smiles sheepishly. "Let's go home. I think we could both use some rest now." And with another yawn, she trots off toward town, and home, and warmth.
Dusk smiles back up at you with agreement, and walks the flying pony back through the town, passing another early waking pony, as the two of them are off to sleep.. and off the rest of the way back to Fluttershy's place.. Dusk gives her a hug good night, and is the one to tuck her in as well.. "Good night, Lady Fluttershy. Until the next time, pleasant dreams of the stars."
<OOC> You say, "Thanks so much for the wonderful walk!" <OOC> Fluttershy says, "It's no problem. n.n" <OOC> You say, "Sorry he can't sing a lulaby like Fluttershy can. :-)" <OOC> Dusk smiles, "Good night!" And lets you get off to sleep. :-) <OOC> Fluttershy flutterhugs! (yay) <OOC> Dusk hugs and yays as well! *smiles* <OOC> Fluttershy gets to bed! Take care, everypony. n.n Fluttershy has disconnected.

It's when Dusk first arrives in Ponyville, and his first encounter is with Diamond Dancer! In a game of Tag with Surprise, Diamond goes so fast she can't control it, barreling right towards the new arrival! But somehow she misses. And yes, horrible art. :-P But I have my excuses! :-) Haven't drawn of any significance in probably two years. Never drawn this many characters in such a time. Usually one or two and take a couple of days. Never drawn ponies! And no scanner currently, so this is my first art actually drawn with my art tablet! Normally just used it to clean up my scanned stuff. Sure is different from hand drawing! Thank you Undo! But still, was fun, and wanted to save the moment! I hope Diamond doesn't mind. :-) And I think I was getting better as I went. Or at least hope. Attachments:

Greetings as well, everyone! My name is Dusk, though some of you may know me as Squirrelly, a toon squirrel, from many of Mu*. I've been on the mucks since 1994. You may also know me by a lot of my MUF code around the mu*s (meetme, teleport, movie, arrive_notify, summon, the updated version of action.muf (hug and such), etc.). I've been a big fan of good cartoons since Tiny Toons, when I no longer saw them as just random things to watch, but became a fan. That lead to usenet groups, which lead to FurryMUCK, which lead to furry fandom in general. And my best friend going back to the early Tiny Toons days is the one that introduced me to the new MLP. The shows were great, but actually what helped really hook me was the show's two way relation with the fans. That helped impress me that much more. And it was that same friend, known to you here as Surprise, that said it'd be great to have me here and to help out with the place, which sounded great to me as well! Dusk is an OC of mine, and actually goes back nearly as far as Squirrelly, but only exists (until now) on a Muck called Unbridled Desires. So when I decided to join here I needed to decide who I wanted to be. I'm Squirrelly virtually everywhere. But this is MLP. I could stay my old self -- I don't think Fluttershy would mind having another squirrel about. But I felt a pony would be much better. I originally was thinking of making a ponified version of Squirrelly, like I've seen so many others do with their other fursonas. But then I remembered Dusk! He would make a great pony character. So with just a little tweaking, he became a pony unicorn (since coding is pretty much a magic thing) with a new cutie mark to go. Characterwise, I've written up a detailed initial background for Dusk, but may undergo some redoing. But the basics / short version so far: Dusk grew up in Canterlot, born and raised in the high class life. But he had a much deeper interest in the workings of magic. Not just the acts of magic they taught in classes, but what made it work at all. That lead him to studying of arcane books on his own, and that lead to an act that affected nearly all of Canterlot, if briefly.
He left Canterlot, sure that he would be in trouble and unable to learn the things he wanted. He traveled quite far and wide, and indeed learned with a much deeper understanding than he had before. And maybe a little less dangerous. Well, he was more careful at least.
But those travels have brought him back around to Canterlot, or at least as far as Ponyville. His studies and practices have lead him to see there are forces and events focusing there, and he would be amiss to ignore it. Even if he has to risk trouble for his past. Perhaps in Ponyville though, he will be fine.
He does practice quite a variety of magic. But of a different bent than other unicorns. Being almost entirely self-taught away from the schools of Canterlot, and with his passion for a deeper understanding of magic, his magic works on a more fundamental level. Often changing the very way things work, altering some element of reality, or changing things on scales that wouldn't normally seem possible. But at the same time, those are things he doesn't do lightly. He learned his lesson the hard way before.
For example though, of the more common magic ponies are more likely to first notice with him, is should he happen to teleport. But he does not "pop" in and out. Ponies just notice that he is there, or not there anymore. How long was he standing there? When did he leave? You just must not have been paying attention.
And Fluttershy came up with the term "theoretical magician" which I think fits quite well!
So it's great meeting you all, and looking forward to playing and to helping improve the Muck as well! See ya's there!
