MOAR SPOILERS
I swore I wasn't going to comment here, but I'll keep myself on a short leash. Let me sum up my disgust this way:
Celestia: Okay, Twilight, tell no one what you are! They don't have magic in this world! Twilight: Got it! [one day later, at most] Twilight: Ohhai! I'm a magical princess pony from another world. Everyone: *totally cool with it* [cue Sailor Moon montage, school gets torn up] Everyone: *still totally cool with it, think Twilight is awesome, absolutely no apparent trauma over discovering there's magic, an alternate world/reality, their classmate is a ex-pony-turned-temporarily-demon-and-still-staying-there-like-nothing-happened, and ohyah... ponies freaking TALK* Twilight: *prances back to her world, leaving the school in ruins and a town with an existential crisis on their hands*
*cue frustrated scream*
No. I hated this movie. I hated it with the passion of a thousand suns. I expected better storytelling from these guys. This seemed like the kind of 'direct to DVD sequel' they make 5 years after the series ends, with none of the same writers or any real clue about the show, and the one thing I was afraid of happening when I first resisted even seeing the new MLP.

Crystal Arena Stadium * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * To the north of the Crystal Plaza, the avenue opens up to the gleaming new feature of the Crystal Empire: the Crystal Arena. Home to the Equestria Games, the Crystal Arena is a massive stadium hewn from bluish-white crystal, and polished until it has a gleam that rivals the Crystal Palace itself. The area surrounding the Crystal Arena is large grassed space big enough for colts and fillies to run around and play, or big enough for a sizeable fair to be set up. High above, a suspended walkway of clear crystal extends down from the Palace, linking the two structures. Brightly coloured pennants flutter in the breeze either side of the entrance, and the golden star symbol of the Equestria Games hangs proudly above. Inside the Crystal Arena is a wonder of modern Crystal Pony architecture. From the outside the walls and domed roof appear opaque, yet from the inside they are transparent to the point they seem non-existant. Arranged around the edges of the walls are outcrops of raw crytsal, seemingly random, but carefully placed that none of the surrounding buildings are visible, save for the Crystal Palace. Large doors stand where the Palace walkway enters the Arena, opening into a special seating area for Royalty and other very important ponies. Tiers of seating surround a central track and field. The track, oval in shape is lined and currently features a number of hurdles and other jumping obstacles, while the field seems to be configured for both showjumping and cross country. * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~
Featuring: Jukebox Hero (m unicorn), Dynamite Rave (m unicorn), and Rainbow Dash (f pegasus)
The floor of the arena has been set up with a stage to one end, leaving the rest of the grassy field open for the crowds of ponies who fill the stadium. The VIP section is roped off right at the front of the stage. Above, the night sky is clear and bright with stars and the glimmering aurora that makes itself known from time to time. Inside, the crystals glow with the spotlights turned onto the stage that illuminate the unmistakable emblem of Jukebox Hero's cutie mark on the backdrop. A local band is playing opener while folks still make their way in.
Sitting in the VIP section with Dash is Dynamite Rave. He is wearing a glow stick necklace about his neck for fun that glows in a bright green. He is bouncing a bit up and down on his hooves as he bobs his head to the sound of the opening band with a grin. "They aren't so bad." He calls over to his date for the night with a sparkle on his eyes. It seems any melancholy has melted away and replaced with excitement.
Rainbow_Dash has decided that, perhaps, it would be best to dispense with the extra gear for this one. She lounges in her seat, watching the opener with marked interest. Hmm...she might have to sample them later on! "Yeah, I think so too, actually" she observes, looking over at Dynamite. "You seem pretty excited, obviously!"
The cover band better be good. There'd likely be a riot otherwise. Not that Jukebox was ever known for sharing the stage much, but perhaps he's growing indulgent with age. As they begin to wind down their song, so too do the lights begin to dim and leaves the arena dark save the base of the crystals that pulse with a slow, cyan light. From around the packed stadium, voices begin to rise. At first they're mindless cheers and chatter, but with each moment they become more and more uniform as the steady stamp of hooves begins to sound like the beat of a drum. "Juke-box He-ro! Juxe-box He-ro!" Knowing their time is at an end, the opening band departs the stage.
"Of course I'm excited, I'm gonna see my dad on stage do what he does best, all the while hanging out with a pretty awesome chick. Best night ever? I think so." Dynamite Rave says with a wink to Dash as he gives a long stretch of his body, followed by a rally of his hoof in the air as he cheers along with the crowd.
"Yeah, I'm pretty awesome, all right!" Rainbow Dash replies, though once again there is that subtle doubt lingering at the back of her mind. Hopefully she'll be more than just an 'awesome chick' to Dynamite in the long run. "Yeah, go Jukebox!" she shouts, forging her own path of fannishness apart from the crowds'.
The emblem of Jukebox Hero across the backdrop fades until the stage is pure black. Then, after several long minutes that begins to leave the crowd restless, a single point of cyan light begins down on the stage itself. It begins like a flicker of flame and then begins to grow, brighter and brighter until it shines like a star. With a pulse and crack it erupts, the crystals around the stadium flaring to life in a brilliant gold that illuminates the stage and shows the star himself standing where the point of light had begun. The white stallion is adorned in a black jacket, the light catching off the golden studs in the collar and the red chevrons on the sleeves. He tips back his head and his voice calls out across the arena, projected though there seems to be no microphone in sight. "I HEAR YOU CAME FOR A GOOD TIME!" The crowd erupts, their roar almost drowning out the first notes that come from the band. "...heh, well I hate to keep you waiting."
Grinning as wide as he can, Dynamite can feel his face start to hurt as he tries not to laugh out too loud. Adrenaline courses through his veins as he yells in return with the crowd, waving a hoof towards his father on stage. Leaning in, he gives Dash a bit of a bump with his shoulder. "Thanks for coming here with me tonight. It means a lot."
"Happy to oblige!" Rainbow Dash quips tersely, before being thoroughly distracted by the unfolding events. "On with the show! Bring us some music!" she shouts at Jukebox, joining in the crowds' excitement in her own particular way.
That may be a wink he passes to a certain someone in the VIP section, though try picking out who from the crowd of swooning mares. The band begins playing a most distinctive guitar riff, the music reverberating off the crystals with a perfect acoustic, the sound ringing clear in the air. "Now listen..." Jukebox begins to sing, his voice an accent to the clarity of the sound, edged with a signature roughness that goes down smooth and then bites like a fine cider. "Not a bit, I can't pay my rent, I can barely make it throouugh the week. Saturday night I'd like to meet my girl but ri-ight now I can't make ends meet!" He continues to sing as he stamps his hoof in time with the music, "I'm always wo-rkin' sla-vin' every day, gotta get away from that saaame old, same old! I need a chance just to get away, If you could hear me think this is what I'd say!"
As he bobs his head with the music, stars light up in Dynamite's eyes as his horn gives a playful pulse. He knows this song. It's one of his favorites. It's a song that any guard can relate to. "It's nothing - but a good time! How an I resist? Ain't looking for nothing! But a good time! And it don't get better than this!" He sings out along with the crowd as he grooves side to side, his grin bolstered.
Rainbow_Dash is just bobbing her head along and tapping her hooves rapidly on the legrest of her seat. She prefers to be silent when listening, letting the music, the lyrics, speak to her as an organic whole...not that she would be privy to such an interpretation of her own disposition. really, she just wants to rock out and let the riffs and beats and twangs take her on a journey: a rock-and-roll journey!
The crowds voice sings out the chorus, Jukebox Hero but a backup singer to the cries of the crowd. His eyes are alight with a manic glow as he marches across the stage, the lights pulsing with every step he takes. "They say I spend my money on mares and highs but I couldn't tell you where I spent last niiight. I'm really sorry about the shape I'm in I just li-ike my fun every now and then." He belts though, though adds in a laugh and adds in, "...haha, no I'm not." And then his voice is rising, roaring out the chorus once again and then the music slips back, the singer continuing, "You see I raise a toast to all of us who are breaking our backs every day. If wanting the good life is such a crime we-ell, then just put me AWAAY!" He rears up, catching his coat in his teeth and yanks it clear in one deft pull, sending it slinging out into the audience. "Here's to ya!"
Laughing, Dynamite Rave is amused at his father's antics as he watches with perked ears. He can sure put on a show. He whistles loudly as he pumps another hoof in the air, then gives Dash another bright smile on his face. He is shaking his rump side to side, tail whipping about his ankles.
Rainbow_Dash is definitely impressed, having only heard the stories and rumours about Jukebox. Seeing him in the flesh puts it all together and adds up to a fantastic impression. "Yeah, rock on!" she shouts, waving her hooves in the air excitedly, smiling back at Dynamite as he smiles at her. Looks like they're both having fun!
As the song comes to an end the music shifts and the lights dim, the golden light but an ember's glow. The music shifts, a slow and steady pulse with just the single notes of a guitar. It sounds quiet, but the crowds euphoria suggests it's anything but. In the half-light of the of the stage, Jukebox begins to slowly walk towards the back of the stage. His voice still sounds clear, quiet but harsh, almost as if he was sad and weary. "...it's all the same, only the names will change. Everyday it seems we're wasting awaaay. It's another place where the faces are so cold, I'd run all niii-iight just to get back home. Oh, I'm a cowboy, in these steel shoes I run. I'm wanted dead or alive. ...wanted dead or alive."
The tip of Dynamite's horn ignites with a bit of fire at the end as he sways back and forth with a grin on his face. "Ah, I love this song." He drawls out. "Man, my dad can really rock." He hums to Dash as he lets out a soft breath of content.
"Yeah, this is totally a classic!" Rainbow Dash states, concurring with Dynamite. In the meantime, she's someone produced a lighter which she's busy trying to activate using her hooves. Unicorns can't have all the fun with fire!
"Sometimes I sleep, sometimes it's not for days." Jukebox Hero continues, turning to look over his shoulder as if recalling the crowd. "...the ponies I meet always goin' their separate ways. Sometimes you tell the day by the songs that you sing, though times when you're alone all you do is think. Oooh I'm a cowboy, in these steel shoes I run, and I'm wanted dead or alive." The music begins to pick up then as the crowd chants his name, even as Jukebox stands there at the very edge of the stage. His head is thrown back, the dim light catching off the sweat on his coat. His voice then sounds out, loud and defiant as the lights erupt back into being a vivid crimson red. "I walk these streets, a loaded six string on my back, and I play for keeps 'cause I might not make it back. I been every-wheeeere, and I'm still standing tall! I've seen a million faces an I've ROCKED THEM ALL!" From the tops of the stages flames erupt with a thunderous rush of air, the magical surge casting off a harmless but electrifying heat over the crowd. "I'm a cowboy, in these steel shoes I run, and wanted dead or alive! ...want-ed dead or aliiiveee."
With a grin, Dynamite uses his magic to light her lighter with a brief glow of magic to catch the gas. Winking at her, he turns his attention back to the stage as he cheers outwards at the casting of flames. He can feel the heat upon his face as he roars his approval.
Rainbow_Dash seems a bit miffed by this assistance. "Hey, I could've totally lit that on my own!" she insists, peering at the impossible mechanism. Who /designs/ these things anyway? Well, at least now she can do that fire-waving thing that ponies at concerts always do.
Several more songs come and go, the crowd swaying in time with soulful ballads and bouncing with upbeat beats. As the show begins to wind down, the panting stallion shares a wide grin with the crowd. "You've all been great! Been awesome to sing for you again! I have one more surprise for you all! There's someone who's waited way too long to join me up here, sometime I think some of you have heard about but haven't had the pleasure to meet." And then he turns his green eyes down to the VIP section, their color burning brighter than the lights. The next words set the crowd on fire, their voices raising in a ballistic euphoria. "MY SON, DYNAMITE RAVE! Get up here, kiddo!"
Dynamite_Rave blinks his eyes a few times, his cheer melting away into a look of shock. ".. Uh, wait, what?" He stammers out as he looks to Rainbow Dash, obviously /not/ expecting that. Reaching out to snag her hoof, it seems that he is going to take her up there with him. "Come on!" He says with a grin on his face as he starts for the stage with a proud strut.
In the Plaza to the South crystal ponies admire the Crystal Heart. Rainbow_Dash snatches her hoof from his grasp and smirks. "Yo, he wants you, not me! 'Sides, this is kinda a special father-son moment, so..go out there!" She gently prods Dynamite onward, grinning mischievously.
As Dash wiggles free, Dynamite has a deer caught in headlights look. "Fine, but you owe me!" He says with a nervous grin on his face before he teleports the rest of the way on the stage, fire and smoke billowing out about him. He gives a wave to the roaring crowd before looking back to his father.
"Give him a shout, ponies!" He bellows out and on cue the crowd roars. If they gets any louder they're going to break the very crystals of the arena. Grinning with pure adrenaline towards his son, Jukebox tosses back his mane and turns his horn to the sky. Cyan magic glows and the skies darken. With a low rumble of thunder, rain begins to fall in sheets, though it never reaches the ground and the arena stays dry. But it's a hint and the crowd knows whats coming. THE song. The singer turns towards his son and the Dash, smirking as he begins to sing and his magic begins to shine along the stage like a rolling fog. "...standing in the rain, with his head hung low, he couldn't get a ticket... it was a sold out show. He heard the roar of the crowd, he could picture the scene. He put his ear to the wall, then like a distant scream, He heard one guitar that just BLEW him awaaay! He saw stars in his eyes, and the very next day..."
'Bought a six string in a second hoof store." Dynamite continues on as his voice courses through the speakers in the arena, his body grooving side to side as he goes, throwing up a hoof to the air. "Was a one-way ticket only one-way to go! So he started rockin' ain't never gonna stop! Just keep on rocking - someday's he's gonna make it to the top and be a JUKE.BOX.HERO!" He roars out as he can feel fireworks explode around him in a shower of flame and color. "He got stars in his eyes! He's a Juke-Box-Hero! He'll come alive tonight!" He harmonizes with the guitars perfectly, one who has practiced singing this song in the shower or in his room for most of his life, looking to blow the crowd away much as his sire has.
"No I don't!" Rainbow Dash shouts playfully, watching as Dynamite takes his place by his father. As the song, THE song, begins, she leans forward and watches in awe as Dynamite gives it his all. Wow, he can /really/ rock out! Her eyes glimmer with stars as the music, the cheers, Dynamite's voice, the crazy crystals shining everywhere...it's a totally sublime moment.
The crowd is beside themselves as lightning flashes in brilliant aqua sparks above, the magic in the cloud churning in time to the music. It amplified the voices of Jukebox and Dynamite, casting it out over the crowd who sings along with them. The music dips down once more, the low and steady beat with pulses of bright notes. "In a town without a name, in a heavy downpour, he thought he passed his own shadow by the backstage door. Like a trip through the past, to that daaaaay in the raaaiin and that one guitaar that made his whole life change. Now he needs to keep on rockin', he just can't stop, Gotta keep on rockin', that boy has got to stay on top!"
As he powers through the chorus once more, singing to his father's anthem, Dynamite Rave looks like he is on top of the world. Though he doesn't have that deep rasp that his father has that most heavy rock singers have, he does have a hint of a growl buried deep within. "And be a juke-box-hero! He got stars in his eyes! He's a juke-box-hero! Just one guitar!" He can feel his own magic rip outwards from his horn, creating the effect of a phoenix spreading it's wings behind him as the feathers ripple in the air in it's fiery glory. As the rain pours down, the bird extinguishes with a puff of black smoke, spreading outwards from the floor of the stage, creating only more of a true rock effect.
A proper gruff voice takes years of abuse, something Jukebox has done with legendary renown. Right now, though, its like looking at him decades ago at the peak of his glory, alive like he hasn't been in ages. His voice rises to sing with that of his son, the two harmonizing like reflections of one voice young and old. As the singer's voice rises in the final, emphasized notes, the storm above explodes outwards like a nova and casts down a cascade of golden sparks like stars falling from the skies. The music ends with one last beat of the drums and leaves the crowds voices ringing in the night air. Panting, Jukebox reaches out with a hoof to sweep his son into a hug, murmuring into the boy's ear outside the projection of his magic. "Proud of ya, kiddo." Turning back to the audience, his voice once more rings out, "Thanks for coming, everypony! Keep rocking on!"
The cheering of the croud echos thorughout the arena. <OOC> You say, "Well played, Room Spoof."
As he hugs his father back, Dynamite's face hurts from the grin that is etched into it. This was the night of his life and he can't feel any happier. He waited forever for a moment like this. To share in his father's glory. As he lets him go, he lifts up a hoof and waves to the audience as he listens to them cheer for the father and son duo. "I should get back to my date. Can't keep a lady waiting." He says with a grin, bumping shoulders against him.
OOC: Anyone who wishes to say they were here is totally welcome to, this was an open scene.

/#\-/#\-/#\ *** ROYAL PALACE *** /#\-/#\-/#\ The Royal Palace is the crown jewel of Canterlot, spiking like a system of stalagmites from the Ponyville side of Canterlot Mountain. The palace is surrounded by a lush botanical and zoological garden and also adjoins a world famous sculture garden and hedge maze. Its exterior is rich and impressive, made of white stone and ivory, mixed with a dazzling array of other colors and patterns. The various turrets and towers are built in peaks, onion domes, gables, and more, and many of them bear balconies, parapets, awnings, flags, or flower ornamentation. On the inside, the palace is no less astonishing. Its tremendous foyer is crisscrossed with red carpet and hung with tremendous tapestries. Throughout the palace, unbelievably tall stained glass windows provide an air of solemnity and gaeity at once. In the Hall of the Elements, these windows are especially haunting, telling the stories of battles with Discord and Nightmare Moon. The palace has countless rooms, from the guard halls to the guest rooms to the throne room. Finally, Princess Celestia's private suite, done up in swirly purples, is furnished with a hearth, rug and bolster, ornamental window, and miniature trees. Featuring: Princess Celestia, Mimic, Scope, and Nightshade
Courage was never something Mimic had trouble with, but then, in a different life she had nothing to be afraid of. She carefully groomed herself, mane and tail carefully done in an understated reflection of her native style in thinned circlets of gold. She had to look good. Nothing to resemble what she was. She was hoping for a future, not to take a step backward. Breathing deep, she approaches the guards at the door to the throne room and dips her head to the guards. "I'm Mimic, here for my audience with Princess Celestia." After checking her name against a list, she's admitted entrance.
The gold-plated guards standing at the door leading to the throne room firmly slam the butt of their spears into the floor before a magical aura surrounds the great doors. They swing inwards, revealing the almost mystically bright and colorful throne room - designs from the stained glass windows paint the floor surrounding the long red carpet leading up to the Princess's bright, golden throne. The Princess of Equestria, Celestia, sits within it, a scroll hovered before her eyes as she writes upon it. "Your Highness. Mimic, of the Crystal Empire," a guard announces. The Princess sets the scroll down and turns her eyes towards the crystal unicorn as she enters. "Welcome, Mimic."
For as long as Mimic's been here, she's never actually spoken to the Princesses, but she knows they know. She knows Cadance organized it all before she arrived. A diplomat, everyone was told. A student. They knew what she was, though. Refugee. Exile. The crystal unicorn lowers her head and forelimb in a low bow, horntip touching to the red carpet. "...your Highness." She straightens herself up and approaches the throne, though stops a generous and respectful distance back. "...I wished to ask you something, if I may."
Unbeknownst to Mimic, another pony slipped in after her, but this particular pony is under a cloaking spell which renders him invisible to all but the most powerful of unicorns.. and every alicorn, so while the others might not see him he stands out like a sore thumb to Celestia. He slips through the throne room and makes his way up the steps towards the throne where he steps around and behind it, only to decloak and come out from the other side and stand tall at the Princess's right side, looking down upon the crystal unicorn.
And the Princess, for her part, most certainly knows what the ponies in the Kingdom believe Mimic is. And she knows for certain exactly what Mimic is. "Of course, Mimic. Please, ask me whatever you desire." The Princess's eyes turn down to look straight into the crystal unicorn's eyes.
Mimic doesn't hold the Princess's gaze, instead looking to a point at the Monarch's hooves as if doing anything else would be providing some sort of challenge. "I had spoke with Firefly some time ago, at length. She made a suggestion that I've been considering and finally decided to ask. I know my past does not make me trustworthy. Nor welcome most often, to those who know. I didn't think that would ever matter to me but, since coming here, I have come to... begin to understand what Princess Cadance meant by friendship and finding a reason to live. Not just to exist, but to enjoy being. I cannot continue pretending to be something I'm not. I have found ponies who know what I was and still accept me. I need to begin to make a life for myself. A real life. So, I'm here to ask for... a job. Firefly mentioned that you may have need of a new recordkeeper now the Chancellor has a new position."
The Solar Knight remains silent throughout this exchange, though when Mimic request a position a brow slowly lifts upward as his head turns to glance upward at the monarch beside him. "If it means anything, your highness, I've encountered this unicorn before.. and Dynamite Rave won't shut up about her.", Scope smirks, turning to look down upon the crystal pony once more. "..I think she'd do fine."
There is another, waiting in the shadow of the throne. Nightshade had known that this meeting would be happening, though not of the exact time and place, and not the occupation, either. To see that Mimic seeks to be a part of the administration is, in her view, rather intriguing. At this point she steps forward so that the light captures her form in the full, but somehow the length of her shadow persists. She walks over to Celestia's left, silence and observant.
Celestia listens silently to Mimic's request. Her wings give an unconscious flap to her side before she nods once to the crystal pony in response to her words. "I see." The Princess considers for a moment before she glances over to Scope as he speaks up. A small smile forms at the Princess's muzzle while her gaze returns to Mimic. "A stronger recommendation I've never heard. Very well, Mimic, I would be proud to have you in my service. Recordkeepers report to Pareto Optimality - you will know him as 'ee-bee'. ..." The Princess glances to her side as Nightshade approaches. "Is EB here? I'd like him to come meet our newest recordkeeper."
Mimic glances up over the rim of her brows towards Scope as he speaks, the briefest flicker of surprise and then appreciation touching her face as she hears his words even if her face remains neutral. Still hiding, in so many ways, but it's a hard habit to break. Nightshade is noticed as well, a flicker of recognition touching on Mimic as she recalls having seen the mare prior, but her attentions then go towards Celestia. She perks up visibly then, looking simultaneously relieved and excited. "I'm honored, Princess. Thank you. Truly."
"Actually, I have...folded much of the record-keeping from Mr. Memory's old portfolio into my sphere," Nightshade states, stepping forward with an air of authority. "Sir Scope is correct; we could benefit greater from somepnoy of such calibre here in the Palace." She walks right up to Mimic. "I don't believe we have proper met, Lady Mimic. I am Nightshade, Overseer of the Royal Palace. A pleasure." She bows her head in respectful greeting, but all the while her facial expression remains stoic.
Celestia clears her throat gently as Nightshade suddenly walks forward. Her head turns just a little bit, her eyes focused on the overseer for just a moment. "Nightshade, while that is correct that you have taken on much of Mister Memory's old duties into your office - which I appreciate deeply - the tasks I have in mind for our newest member of the palace community fall specifically within the Finance Minister's jurisdiction." She stares at the overseer just a moment longer before she returns her gaze to Mimic. "It is truly a pleasure and honor to have you here, Mimic. I look forward to working with you. Please, Nightshade or Scope - fetch the royal economist."
Mimic dips her head towards Nightshade as the dark mare introduces herself. "A pleasure to meet you properly, Nightshade. I remember seeing you in Canterlot in the company of some other ponies." She flicks her eyes back up towards Celestia with a subtle furrow to her brow, no doubt curious about these tasks but polite enough not to ask. Instead, she waits to make the acquaintance of the one she'll be working for.

Well, Mimic is your resident expert on the rule of Sombra - even if it was from the King's side of things. She'd probably take some convincing to breech the subject though, but it's fairly common public rumor about her involvement.

(&)=(&)=(&)=(&)=(&)=(&) =+= CANTERLOT =+= (&)=(&)=(&)=(&)=(&)=(&) Canterlot, the capital of Equestria, is an aloof city built into the side of Canterlot Mountain. Its towers and spire soar majestically forth, defying gravity and expectations, the royal palace of the princesses foremost among its buildings. Up close, Canterlot is a place filled with clean, broad plazas, beautiful terraces, and shiny, bright stone buildings. The city is very old, but has a constantly refreshed air of newness. Perhaps this is because of the pride of its citizens, who think of themselves as being at the intellectual and historical center of their country. Perhaps it's also because those citizens are predominantly unicorns, andt heir magical talent is good for not just changing the seasons, but keeping their city clean. For whatever reason, the commerical district of Canterlot is filled with fascinating shops selling curios, inventions, magic items, spell scrolls, glassware, books, fine art, and quality hardware. It's a city of proud, intelligent ponies thrilled to be living so close to their benevolent ruler, Princess Celestia. Features: Jukebox Hero (male unicorn) and Dynamite Rave (male unicorn)
Note: This takes place after a scene the night prior in which Jukebox is having an impromptu chat with the paparazzi.. only to be confronted by the surprise son he'd got dumped on with as a young star and likewise dumped on an orphanage step. Egos clashed, rude things were said, and it overall went down pretty poorly. The tabloids are having a field day. And I lost the log.
Note 2: Log contains very minor language. Just a teensy bit.
Canterlot is not a town of early birds. With most ponies only having gone to sleep a few hours ago it'll be awhile yet before the city gets going. The sun is just peeking over the horizon and turning the tall turrets a soft gold. On the outskirts of the high city jogs Jukebox Hero. His eyes don't look like he slept either, but he's had years to perfect the art of the ugly cycles of sleeplessness. He doesn't even notice anymore. He's alone this time, no apparent bodyguards shadowing his movements. He pauses along the battlements of the city, looking out over the landscape far down the mountain and lets the cool breeze blow back his mane.
Having been out on a jog himself, it seems that Dynamite Rave has the company of a very particular cyan colored pegasus with a rainbow colored mane. Once the two share a competitive laugh and a shove to one another's shoulder, the element of harmony flies off into the sky to leave the young firestarter by himself. With a shake of his sweaty mane and dressed in a workout suit emblazed with Celestia's crest, he starts down the path with a heavy pant.
Jukebox_Hero doesn't miss the distant gleam of rainbow and cyan, recognizing the mare. He's a celebrity. It's his job to know who else is out there. Besides, half the time he has nothing better to do. So it goes he doesn't miss the distant gleam of red and it brings a hitch to the side of his mouth that seems to verge on sadness. He couldn't forget a color scheme like that. He seems to mull over things, beginning to open his mouth one second only to close it the next. In the end, he does call out, the voice not needing to be very loud to carry in the empty, dawn streets. "...hey there, kid."
After waving a farewell to Dash, Dynamite Rave swivels his ears over to the sound of the new voice that echoes through the empty street. With a twist of his head, he gives a pause, slowly frowning at the sight of the world famous rock legend. Shifting his shoulders, he starts over with his usual lumbering gait, ears pinning back a bit into the dark recesses of his ebony mane. "Hey." He rasps out in his smokey voice.
Jukebox_Hero flicks his eyes towards the distant form of the pegasus. "...guard, workout pals with Elements... you really have done well." He murmurs consideringly before looking down towards Dynamite. "Look.. about the other night. That wasn't right. What I said. Did. ..all of it. I was caught up in the cameras and... well, you honestly scared me halfway to gray there. I know sorry ain't ganna cut it, but, they don't really make words for these kinda situations."
"Yeah, well.. I kinda .. didn't take the nice guy approach either." Dynamite Rave says as he lifts up a hoof to rub behind his neck before he puts it back down. "I guess it's awkward for me also. I wasn't going to say anything that day but my temper is pretty famous here in Canterlot. When I heard you were here, I planned on going back home to Ponyville to avoid the whole.. thing."
"Temper, eh? Well.. sorry about that too, I guess." The white stallion lets out a long sigh that it sounds like he was holding in, a crinkle forming between his brows. "I hadn't known you were here. I.. I tried, a few times, to see what happened to you but the trail had gone cold. I couldn't find your mother after everything. I'd hope she came back for you but.. guess not. So, Ponyville, eh? I guess you know about Mixy? Last I heard she was there." He says, a sad smile creasing his face. His daughter looks so much like him, it'd be hard not to peg them as kin.
"Yeah, Mixy and I have an interesting relationship. She's never in one place though. I have the keys to her loft and I stay there when I'm in town sometimes. She has a place inside the club that she owns and operates. I mix some of my music there with her." Dynamite says as he gives a firm nod of his head.
Jukebox_Hero chuckles at that, eyes brightening at Dynamite's words. "I've listened to her work. She's good. Glad to hear you two met. I.. I suppose I should try and see if she's around. We didn't part on great terms. Story of my life, really. I've missed a lot of time, with both of you. I can't make things perfect and I can't make up for it but, maybe we could all give things a shot? One step at a time. I'm gonna be in town for awhile 'till the concert. I haven't thought much beyond that." He doesn't think much ahead about anything, but perhaps age is making his nostalgic and realizing the future isn't so bright and long-lived as he thought.
Shrugging his shoulders upwards, Dynamite Rave says, "I don't know.. maybe.. I suppose we'll have to see. I can talk to her but I don't know if it will be a good conversation. I know she holds a lot of ill will for whatever happened in the past between you guys. Though I've come to believe it's more about her ego and living in shadows rather than anything you or her mother did." He taps his hoof lightly on the ground. "So, after this concert, what are you doing next?"
"I can't blame her." Jukebox Hero remarks with a huff in his voice. "I never had the best relationship with my grandparents. Hate to say it, but, egos and tempers run pretty strong in this line. My family was never known for being real close. Get more than four of us in a room and it was a volcano ready to blow. Those traits tend to make you damned good at what you do, but pretty lousy for a social life." He flicks an ear at mention of the concert and gives a shrug of his shoulders. "I'd given up the road years ago, but, the agents figured this would be a good idea to try and keep me 'relevant'. I heard the music a long time ago. I'm a relic who's too set in his ways. Ah.. it'll be good to live it up for a little while again, though. There really is nothing like being in the spotlight and hearing the crowd chant your name, seeing ponies fall over themselves just to get close to you, knowing you're what gets a lot of them through the day. It's addicting, kid."
"Yeah. I suppose it could be." Dynamite Rave says as he glances over his shoulder to his own cutie mark for a moment, before looking back to him. "I thought I would head down the same path as you and end up in a career of music but instead, destiny had something else in store. I'm a hero and it's what I do. I save lives. Before I was assigned to the elements of harmony, I was apart of the search and rescue division of the royal guard here. I have been thrown into some pretty intense situations. Youngest pony to be accepted into the guard and assigned to such roles." A crooked smile forms upon his muzzle. "But, I still do the music thing on the side. Some DJing, some singing."
"Hey, music is a great business, but it chews you up and spits you out when it's done with ya." Jukebox Hero says with a lopsided grin. "You made the right move. It's about time someone broke the mold. ... guard, escort... turning yourself into a hero is right. That's awesome. I'm glad.. I didn't ruin ya. I always worried I did that with Mixy. Sounds like you're ganna go big places. It's about time someone in this family got dealt the good cards."
"Well, I mean.. you kinda dropped me off at birth, it's not like you was around to influence me one way or the other. It's just the cards that were dealt to me and I made the most of it with a strong support group around me." Dynamite Rave says as he takes in a deep breath. "It's still surreal though.. being your son. A mega celebrity. I grew up listening to your stuff and had every song memorized before I found out who you really were. I wasn't even supposed to know but I sorta unsealed my sealed documents when I broke into the clerical office shortly before I took the job here. I sort of needed that answered before I.. grew up.. I guess."
"You..broke in?" At this Jukebox throws back his head, a raccous laugh escaping him before he shakes his head. "Oh damn, you are mine, aren't ya? I never could take no for an answer. Or 'we'll tell you later'. Or 'you don't need to know'. I was terrible as a foal. Well.. I hope my music helped a little, even if I wasn't there. Look atcha though, hardly grown and this far. What else is going on with your life, besides being a big hero? There a girl in your life? ...boy? I see you're friends with the prince?"
"Yeah, Solar Eclipse is my best friend, even if he's a bit younger. We're both weirdos in our own way and we kinda gravitated to each other. I couldn't ask for a better friend." Dynamite says with a smirk on his head. "A girl? Been a few here and there. I'm sorta now kinda maybe dating the element of loyalty, Rainbow Dash. We're going to the Exodus concert next week, then dinner. We're sorta.. doing a test run right now." He grins sheepishly. "Before that I dated a nurse, an academic prodigy, a street rat. Nothing that really stuck though. If anything, Dash and I only went out for ice cream once together and so far it's the most normal date I've had." Laughing, he looks amused for a few moments.
"Exodus? ..pfft." Jukebox Hero lets out a puff of a breath as he rolls up his eyes. "Well, I suppose you wouldn't be too interested in the backstage passes for my show, eh? You can bring your lady friend. I'll show ya how we partied back in the day. Aah, the nights would go on forever until we all thought the sun was still the spotlights on the stage. They kinda look the same if you squint sideways after three nights without sleep. ...getting a bit old to rock it all night like the kids these days, though."
"Ain't nothing wrong with Exodus. It's the show the lady wants to go to so I'm not gonna deny her." Dynamite says with a grin on his face. "They got a couple of good songs though. And.. if you're offering me tickets to your show I won't say No, I suppose. I'll talk to Dash and see if she's down. I'm sure she would be." The young element of fire kicks the ground a few times with a hoof, scuffing side to side. "You trying to make up for lost time or something old man?" He smirks.
"Heck, you could probably get your own way in, but I might as well give ya the passes." Jukebox Hero quirks up a brow, cocking the same smirk his son does. "Nah. Maybe making up for the other night. If someone offered me a few tickets for half a life, I'd tell 'em where they could stuff 'em in no uncertain terms. It'll be a rocking night, though. The royals just made me promise I wouldn't break any of their crystal buildings, which I wouln't do on purpose. I don't know if I can speak for the bass, though."
"Alright, alright. I'll talk to her and see if she wants to go. I think she's a fan of yours if I recall her vinyl selection when I had the chance to peek at her stuff in Cloudsdale." Dynamite Rave says as he motions upwards with his hoof. "So.. um.. speaking of mom... I guess she was a.. one and done kinda.. situation, huh?"
Jukebox_Hero turns to begin walking again, motioning with his head for Dynamite to follow. "...yah, I guess in the end it sorta went that way. I... had hoped it wouldn't be, though. She was something different. I've known a lot of mares in my life, I wouln't lie. Never exactly hid any of it either. She wasn't like the rest though. She had a certain fire. I screwed it up, though. Never gave her the attention she deserved, wasn't there when she needed me... When I realized it it was too late. Last I saw her was the night she left you with me."
"Yeah, well.. don't bang your groupies." Dynamite says with a smirk upon his face as he trots along after him. "So, Mixy and I are half sisters if I recall correctly. She doesn't really like to talk about the home life often. It gets her real pissed so I just let it go. Then again everything gets her pissed. She was dating Vinyl Scratch for a bit until they broke up and she went on this major melt down and traveled the world or something to get over it. I only see her like twice a year at this rate."
"Hey, when you find yourself drunk on rock and Celestia only knows what combination of alcohol, you don't say no to a room of willing groupies." Jukebox Hero aims a false scowl down to Dynamite. "It's Rock Law. I have cut back, though. Too old to keep up with spry young fillies. Gotta leave some for you boys, anyway. It's only polite." He nods then in regards to Mixtape. "Yah, she's your half-sister. She sounds like any musician who hasn't found their stride... like any artist, really. When your soul is your work, you're three steps from crazy until you find what sparks your fire. The highs are amazing, but the lows will kill ya if you're not careful."
"Yeah, well.. I'm not sure if I want to know how many other half siblings I have floating about." Dynamite says as he rubs his nose slightly with his hoof. "So, besides romping with random girls you can't remember the names of and music, what else do you do?" He asks as he blows the sweaty black mane away from his face as he canters along.
"None I know of." Jukebox Hero responds, as vague an answer as he can provide. It seems likely, at least in his head, for there to be just the two. Afterall, if there were others what mare wouldn't be after a celebrity for some foal support? "Far as the rest of my life... that's it, kid. I exist for the music. When I'm not doing that, I'm supposed to be thinking up more. Reworking the old. Head to this party or this interview, make sure ponies still remember who you are. Maybe play a show now and again for old time's sake. Other than that.. it's a whole lot of sitting around and remembering."
"Sounds boring to me. My job will most likely kill me at some point. Sooner than later" Dynamite admits as he continues to trot along. "It's why I'm trying to live life to the fullest each day that I can. No regrets. I was the perfect candidate really for most of these jobs I was put on. I have no family to cry over me if I get killed in combat. It's a lot easier to deal with the loss of a guard who doesn't have a lot tying him down you know what I mean?"
"I hear ya." Jukebox Hero murmurs as he walks along, the sun at the height of morning. "Why do you think so many big artists don't have a lot in the way or real friends of family? On the move all the time, rich one second and broke the next, either at the height of our lives or in the gutter.. too many highs and lows for most to deal with. Less baggage we have to knock down our house of cards." He grimaces faintly then, "Which my agents were not thrilled about when they heard about us the other night. I got my ears chewed off."
"Yeah, I got my ass tore up by my Captain the next day after he saw the papers. He made me run fifty miles." Dynamite says with a grin on his face. "With all my gear on. At the height of Celestia's sun that afternoon. It was torture." Stopping before a cafe, he looks inside for a moment, then opens the door. "Here, we can get a juice inside. They have good refreshers. Kind of a trendy place, not too pompous."
Jukebox_Hero grimaces sympathetically at the boy's punishment. "Tough breaks. Least my agents can't do too much to me that I didn't do to myself already. Eh. Scandal gets eaten up fast but forgotten pretty easily. I've been in that storm before. It'll pass. Sticks and stones, right?" He looks to the cafe before stepping in after his son, eyes glancing around the shop's interior. "Looks decent."
"Yeah, Captain is pretty hard on me when I screw up which is fine. Keeps me honest." Dynamite Rave says as he heads to the counter where he orders himself his usual. Strawberry Mango Smoothie with a twist of orange. He floats the drink over and takes a quick sip, followed by a soft sigh of relief. "I don't get invited to many parties. Most that happen are with colts a lot younger than me and it's not my scene, or a lot older and we ain't got much in common. So, I.. sorta don't.. do the party thing unless it's at Mixy's club."
"Fair enough. Gets ya into trouble, that." Jukebox remarks as he regards the menu, even as a few of the workers in the back openly gawk over the racks of fruits. "Eh.. Gimme a carrot-orange-pineapple." He remarks, trying to look cool and collected as the workers about trip over themselves getting his drink in order. By the time he's got his drink it's been inflated two sizes and somehow free. How about that? He sneaks a few bits behind the counter when they're not paying attention all the same as he turns to follow Dynamite. "...know what else fame causes? It causes you to have a lot of trouble not being fat. Crazy how that happens." He mutters with amusement as he eyes the oversized smoothie.
"Well, I have a pretty strict work out plan that I stick to. Five a.m. One p.m. Eight p.m. Eat lots of bright green vegetables in my diet. Drink lots of water. Splurge only once in awhile." Dynamite says as he takes a seat at the back, sipping away at his drink. "You just need to work out more. Less drugs, more smoothies." Staring out the window as the morning sun kisses Canterlot and ponies start to buzz about the street, he takes in a deep breath.
Jukebox_Hero snorts noisily at the boy as he sips at the smoothie that hovers next to him in a glow of cyan-hued magic, gleaming like neon lights. "I stopped that crap ages ago. I've burned out enough brain cells, thanks. I do what I can to keep fit. I got a lot of spare time on my hooves, most days. I get a jog in every morning, usually a walk once or twice the rest of the day if I'm not going to be bombarded. Jogging through a crowd of ponies is a challenge. Can't say I always eat the best. Road food isn't always luxury, but I do what I can."
"Get a gym membership then and just have private runs on the equipment. At least that way you can be consistent." Dynamite Rave says as he gives him a wry grin on his face. "And you're making excuses. You eat like crap cuz' you like it." With another long pull from his smoothie, he swallows happily after licking his lips. "You should just retire with your money and take it easy for a bit."
"Membership? Please.. I could buy one." Jukebox Hero remarks with a lopsided grin. "And yes, crap food is delicious. Sue me." He swallows down another mouthful of smoothie thoughtfully as he looks out the window. "I had for awhile.. kicked back, I mean. Life was just.. dull. I keep thinking this concert will be the last, but then I stop and realize I have nothing else better to do."
"You're just an addict and you want the spotlight." Dynamite says with a grin on his face. "I guess that runs in the family also. I'm an attention hog for the most part, when I want to be. I love performing at Mixy's club every other weekend. Crank the bass up, bring the wubs down hard and just lose it dancing."
Jukebox_Hero lets out a thin noise as he slants a look down at his son. "...wubs... you kids these days. Well, maybe I'll have to stop down some night. If she wouln't beat me over the head with a speaker box." Not that he wouldn't deserve it for some sin or another, but who's counting? "Welcome to the family, boy. Hoofstamps are our heartbeat, cheers are our voice, the spotlight is our soul. Get used to your ego. You're ganna be living with him the rest of your life. When you got nothing else, you'll have that." Grinning lopsidedly, he begins to murmur in tune, "First when there's nothing, but a slow glowing dream... That your fear seems to hide deep inside your mind.."
"You gonna start singing that chick song?" Dynamite asks with a raise of his brow. "I used to have that vinyl somewhere in my room. Probably collecting dust." He says with a laugh. "What a feeee-eeeling. Been believing! I can have it all - now I'm dancing for my life." He drawls out with a raspy tone in his vocals as he gives him a coy smirk. "Ain't nothing wrong with wubs if done right but my specialty is more industrial."
Jukebox_Hero laughs as Dynamite joins in, cracking a wide grin down at him. "It's a good song. Poignant. I could regale you with my theme song. Only the best get those." He drawls as he gives his head a slow shake, "I guess so, kid. A good beat is a good beat, but some of those songs could use some lyrics and really throw 'em over the top. Maybe that'll be my next release. Remixes."

We got a place at the Hyatt three blocks away, so not too bad. Easy walk. And way, way cheaper.

nekorushi.deviantart.comJust stumbled on them selling a few quite good Pinkies for under or at 100$ - or less for Eurofolk. Figured I'd share since prices that good for quality is hard to find.

Well I have Thunderlane who's little brother is Rumble. There's no current player but if someone wants to get involved and has no siblings they could spoof him!
