Hello my darlings! Tis I, Rarity, your beautiful beautifier of the world! Your pretty pony of perfect poise, and a fabulous filly of fashion! Tonight, we have a very special class to offer you: Joining Pose!
But, Darlings, before I get into this, theres something I simply MUST Address: These views discussed below are simply my own opinions and not such that of Equestira Muck’s Staff, or the hard working wizards that run our little corner of the web!
That being said, lets discuss joining pose. Joining pose is the act of joining a scene in progress. This is an important part of learning how to Role Play and a situation I know some ponies have trouble with! But fear not, I, Rarity, am here to offer the hoof of generosity for this issue!
Now then; you’ve crafted a fine description of your pony, you’ve got an idea for a story or situation, and you’ve come across three ponies in the middle of an RP: AppleJack, Rarity, and Twilight. You’re ready to join in and have some fun!
The problem I’ve been encountering with a number of Ponies is impatience to find out the situation before entering.
Twilight glances towards Applejack, fearful, but trusting of her friend as the town around her continues to burn and ponies flee left and right, the Ursa Major having no pity or remorse in it’s rampage. “I’ve…I’ve only dealt with an Ursa Minor before. I don’t think I can do this.” Twilight stammers.
Applejack forces a thin smile, nodding her head towards Twilight with a shaky breath. “It’ll be ok, pumpkin’. We CAN do this. We can…we have too…I’ll be right there with ya’ll every step of the way Twilight…I promise. “ The earth pony explains, a hint of fear wavering in her voice, the town’s destruction only serving to steel her resolve to stopping this menace.
“T, This way! Over here!!” Rarity calls out, having fulfilled her role of distracting the creature with a number of glittering, gleaming gems on one of her favorite dresses. Her FAVORITE dresses…But the town comes first- and her friends need her. She can always make another dress. “H, HURRY Twilight…I don’t think I can keep it’s attention much longer!” Rarity calls, her horn blazing a colorful lavender as she waves her jewel encrusted dress- dazzling it in front of the massive beast’s eyes.
Pony X comes cheerfully out of Sugar Cube Corner, holding a bag of freshly baked cupcakes courtesy of Pinkie Pie! The day is crisp and clear Pony X is smiling brightly as the sun is shining: Dazzling and warm! She makes her way over to Twilight and the other ponies and drops the bag of cupcakes down. “Hey guys, you want some cupcakes?!” =-)
Now, having had established that the town was in utter ruins (Again, after the Ursa Minor, the Swarm of the century, the numerous OTHER things that destroy this town), Pony X’s intro seems utterly absurd. Now, this of course, might have been rectified, and avoided, saving ponies time and aggravation if you simply ASK a pony whats going on before entering the scene. If there’s already a scene going, and you’re not entirely sure how to access, the command for asking is simple! Either ask everyone, which consists of
OOC Hello every pony, whats going on?
OR
A Whisper command for those whom are a little more…sly.
W Rarity= Oh, Rarity, I know your busy being so incredible and fabulous and looking absolutely amazing, and being the type of pony everypony should know, but I was wondering if you might be able to tell me whats going on?
And of course, darling, I shall gladly inform you (If the knowledge is at my hooftips) of the current situation!
In such a case as stated above, the Ursa Major attacking the town, Pony X’s original pose is still something that can be worked in, with a little bit of tweeking.
Pony X crawls from the twisted wreckage of Sugar Cube Corner, dragging herself by her hooves free of the burning debris while a single bag of cupcakes dangles from her muzzle. The only thing she could save. “H, Help…” She crooks quietly, before collapsing into a heap.
The above, states that you are now part of the scene, and not only that, immediately need attention. You give another pony the opportunity to play the hero role, AND you imply the level of destruction the Ursa has wreaked upon the town, adding to the overall scene! All and all a GENIUS level application of Posing if you ask me!
Now, the issue here is simply asking whats going on, BEFORE you add your pose to the scene. Asking for just a smidgen of back ground information makes all the world darling, it really does, I can assure you! And if you feel uncomfortable asking a fellow pony, or whispering for whatever reason, simply take a moment and WATCH dear! Just sit back, and let the rest of Ponyville tell the story to you BEFORE you decide to partake in the scene taking place.
While we do love to RP here at Equestria, you owe it to yourself, and everypony involved to enter a scene with a bit of knowledge of what’s going on. If the scene is just starting (and we’ll discuss pose creation in another class, I assure you, darling) than a little discussion with the ponies in the room won’t hurt. (Generic pose creation and story arcs will be covered in additional class.)
So just remember my darling little ponies, a little knowledge goes a long way! Make sure you have a ground basis of the scene going on before you get started! And if you don’t know- simply ask!
