"I spoke with the good Doctor today."
The voice of Madame Torch Light rumbles through the hallway as she approaches her son through the open door of his bedroom, busy at work as always as he writes down a number of long equations used to calculate light years to a certain cluster of stars that he has found fascinating over the weekend.
".. Oh?"
The voice of the young prodigy squeaks out as he swallows tightly in his throat, having a notion of what is about to come.
"Yes. I am quite disappointed. I sent you there to shadow and educate yourself in proper procedure of patient relations and medicine, not to tell the Doctor your life story. He came to the manor, spouting nonsense about your father and how he has the power to save him."
As always, her flat tone holds barely a hint of emotion as she lowers her green eyes to stare down at him. Adjusting the glasses upon the edge of her nose, she clears her throat once more in a raspy, sandy sound. The type of noise that one would think a glass of water could cure after a few quick sips.
"Well? Do you think he has the ability to cure your father?"
The question weighs heavily in the room as Quasar goes to stare down at his hooves, shuffling them slightly for a moment before his small shoulders lift upwards into a shrug.
".. I.. don't see why it won't hurt to let him try... if he's confident."
There is another snort from the matriarch as the steel silver colored mare gives a toss of her head. As she thinks, she lets out a soft breath from between her lips.
"I have spent hundreds of thousands of currency on trying to troubleshoot and diagnose your father's condition. The only reason why I gave up and moved us here was because I was told that there would be no hope yet. No hope. This coming from some of the brightest and well researched doctors in Equestria. Yet, this .. stallion that works here.. in this podunk little down in Ponyville thinks he has the skill to fix him?"
There is a scoff from her throat as she shakes her head after another long moment of thought.
"I don't know what his game is, or why he would step hoof into my home and make such wild claims. I am half tempted to drag him to Fillydelphia myself and watch him embarrass himself when he, like every other pony, fails."
Quasar continues to keep his eyes lowered to the ground, his posture slumping more and more after each sharp word that cuts through the room like a warm knife through butter. Pulling his notebook closer to himself, he hugs it against his chest as if it was a toy meant for security, ears flattened back against his skull.
"In fact, that is exactly what I will do. I will teach him a lesson of respect."
With that, Madame Torch Light turns and heads out of the bedroom, leaving her son settled backwards upon his haunches, fidgeting nervously with anxious energy. After a few moments, he lets loose the breath he was holding in his chest outwards in a shudder, then glances back down to his notebook.
*Flash*
The gold light at the tip of his horn ignites once more, rocking him backwards a few inches in surprise as he stares openly into the expanse of his bedroom. As his pupils slowly dilate, his jaw falls open as he stares in shock. What he sees before him petrifies him for a few moments, before his body starts to work once more as movement becomes familiar again. Rising to his hooves, he turns his eyes left to right, just simply staring.
".. Oh my Celestia.. "
