Hello, my darling little ponies! Tis I, Rarity! Some may say I'm to generous for my own good. To them I say: Oh hush and open your gift, you'll love it! Now, this...this is it, darlings. This is the big one. This is the post I've been thinking about since the muck open, and since I started these little essays. This, is, THE post.
This is your description.
But before I get to that, there is something I simply MUST Address: These views discussed below are simply my own opinions and not such that of Equestira Muck’s Staff, or the hard working wizards that run our little corner of the web!
Now then, let us begin...
Your description is who you are. It is the first thing ponies will look at when they encounter you, and it is something they will reference for the entire time you are on the muck, RPing. This is a medium, (This muck, that is) that is built upon the backs of words. Words are everything, and words are what make you, you. I mean not to frighten or discourage anypony whom may not be a writer at heart, but the description is on the whole, your 'first impression' as it were.
Your description should be stretchy, but not clingy! Shimmery, but not showy! ...wait, wait no I'm thinking of something else...
Now, of course your description must be bold! It must be daring! To be frank, darling, it must be YOU. Nopony can write a description for YOUR character the way YOU can, and if you can't muster the determination to put in some effort for your own character, how well can we possibly interact?! Now, of course not every pony is a writer, or an author, or can find the inspiration for your character, but I ASSURE you it isn't as hard as it may sound!
Be artistic, use words that aren't so very very common...like very.
"Avoid using the word ‘very’ because it’s lazy. A man is not very tired, he is exhausted. Don’t use very sad, use morose."
-N.H. Kleinbaum, Dead Poets Society.
Blue? Pish Posh. Use cobalt! Use cerulean! Use Sapphire! Your mane is not simply 'messy' it is a tangled jungle of honey touched locks! It is a spiked symphony of crimson blades! It is a masterpiece of emerald curls and spirals!! Describe your cutie mark! Tell us about your fur color! Tell us about why your eyes shimmer the way they do? Golden? Honeyed? Chestnut? There are a world of words to use, and the world is at your hoof tips! Thesaurus.com is a VERY helpful site, if I might be so bold.
The main issue with descriptions, I run into is this muck uses MPI which I am not...terribly...familiar with, so unfortunately, @desc me= only lets you pose so much until the buffer takes away your fabulous, creativity. I'm sure Derpy or Programmer can explain a much easier way to write your description, however. That being said, you want to describe yourself. Tell us how the sun makes your mane bend to the spectrum of colors! Tell us how your tail swishes and dances across your backside, your fetlocks tickle at the grass, or how your wings compose the very embodiment of flight. There are so many wonderful ways to describe yourself, take advantage of it! Tell us why your glasses are spectacular, or how cute your muzzle is, with a gentle chiseled chin, or the sleek way the sun reflects off of your muscles. Do tell us, darling, how wonderful you are, because no pony knows how to write YOU, better than YOU.
Till next time, my darling little ponies.
Today is a day of sweet and fickle fortunes! A day of providence of the highest degree! Lady Luck herself has smiled, so it would seem and allowed your eyes to befall a testament to grace and beauty; Oh goodness yes, it's the one and only, Lady Rarity!
Oh, yes, she IS quite the sight to behold. Starting from the very top of her head is her horn -a bright and brilliant alabaster and a symbol to the utter beauty and elegance that should describe every unicorn. Her mane is a delicate shade of indigo bouncing and weaving with her motions and providing another distinct reason for most ponies to stare. Its magnificence is only matched by her tail - the lengthy appendage the same color as her mane, spiraling precariously down from her backside in a lush show of overt care and maintenance. Of course, her tail only works to compliment her eyes. They sparkle with a sapphire luster to them, alert for the ever present fashion disaster and always on the look out for the latest in trends and popularity.
She flaunts her looks with her movements - meandering from view with a distinct and direct roll of her hips, potentially drawing eyes to the three glittering diamonds adorning her flank; her cutie mark. She moves with a regal, and lady like air to her, taking slow, well practiced steps with a perfect underlying posture that rivals royalty everywhere. There's no denying it - that's Lady Rarity; owner of the Carousel Boutique, element bearer of Generosity; and Fabulous Fashionista! Go and say 'hi' and she might even grant you a fashion tip or two!
Of course, if you're interested, Lady Rarity DOES write descriptions for ponies whom come asking.
