Something we're playing via page-mail on the muck, but I figured this would be a good place to keep track of it. I'll update it as others add their replies via page-mail. Though they're free to post direct to here and just page-mail the link to this for their pose. Others can join in if they wish as well.
Ether:
Ether sits at his workstation in the magic research center, on the wall hangs two Solarium necklaces, each with an enchanted sunstone embedded into it. These were the Dream Substitute Necklaces he had been working on, effectively replacing the dream experience with a specific illusion he had put into the gem. Normally the two necklaces were available for anyone to grab if they needed a pause from the nightmares, although at the end of the day, if both necklaces were still hanging there, Ether would take one for himself for the night.
The flippable blackboard had even more scribbles on both sides, one side was a brainstorm of possible solutions and countermeasures for the Crisium. The list went; Herbal sleep potion, Substitute Dream Stone, Leave Equestria, Dream Ward spell, Crisium Catcher, Daytime sleep. The other side of the blackboard more described the current theories about the nature of the Mare Crisium. Currently, there were two theories; 1) The Mare crisium is a spell covering all of Equestria, hovering over it like an intangible, invisible force, potentially activated when someone in the area enters sleep. 2) The Mare Crisium is a spell with a parasitic nature. Upon release, it affected as many victims as it could and afterwards nests in their mind and feeds off their mental distress.
Of course, not everything could be fit on the blackboard and right now, Ether sits and hastily jots down on a notepad, the headline of the section was listed as "Crisium Catcher". "Got the materials covered, aside from actually having them." he hrms to himself, "I'll need to speak with Forge about the Lunarium, Mirage and Rusty about the moonstone gem, maybe also Mirage about the books I reuqested, Dusk and Programmer Pony about the siphon..." he hrms, realizing that this time, he had to draw even more on the skills of everyone else. Ether decides to quickly jot down as a sidenote, who he has to speak to about which topics.
Mirage:
Mirage hasn't used the special necklaces since she doesn't suffer any noticable effects from the nightmares. In fact, she doesn't remember having any nightmares at all. Or any regular dreams for that matter. But so far her efforts have been in vain. All the relevant books in any of the larger city libraries are already in use by other ponies trying to research a solution to the nightmares. And she has been unable to locate any private libraries containing anything useful. Even questioning Virga, who knows the Everfree Forest and the Lunarium within, revealed no library there. "And the two acting princesses only know that they performed a summoning spell to bring Mare Crisium forth. So even Fluttershy and Applejack have no idea exactly what she is. It seems we either locate a source of information about Mare Crisium, or we find a way to face her to gain more information. We don't know if she can be reasoned with, or if she can only be dispelled."
Ether:
There is a note on Ether's workstation, it reads as follows;
NOTICE:
Rusty recently made a venture into the Everfree forest to the Temple of the Moon in search of moonstone, unfortunately he was only able to bring back pebbles and dust, far from meeting the requirements of capturing and holding Crisium energy.
Browsing through a few of the books laying about, I did manage to dig up a variant of the common detection spell. Using this and the samples Rusty brought to us, I might be able to pinpoint sources or deposits at the temple, which Rusty may have overlooked.
This is why I will be absent for approximatly two or three days. Rusty and I are going back to Temple of the Moon in the forest to perform the spell and, if succesful, hopefully bring back some more usable moonstones.
I have taken the liberty to borrow the book 'Spell Variants: New uses for old magic' from the research center, I may need to reference it when attempting to cast the self-attunement variant of the detection spell on the moonstone dust and pebbles. We are also bringing one of the Substitute Dream necklaces, there should still be one left for public use if anyone needs it."
Yours sincerely
Ether, Magic Analyst
Mirage:
Mirage insures that Dusk has read the note, and then dutifully makes a note to alert the authorities if Ether isn't back in Ponyville in three days.
Dusk:
Dusk has seen much of what Ether has written down on the boards, and the items he's been working on, and agrees with most all the ideas, though with some in greater degrees than others. Dusk also hasn't been using any of the necklaces so far. He remembers dreams and can have nightmares, but just has not had the need to sleep so far. Though he has been considering trying to interact with the Mare Crisium somehow. Unfortunately with none of us having luck finding books on the subject with the big demand for such currently, it has limited our options.
Dusk would like to perform some lucid dreaming, perhaps as a group even. But having some established knowledge on it would be far better as this is not the best time to try and learn by trial and error, what with the Mare Crisium. However, Mirage had recently recalled a "Dark Tower" on a mountain in or near the Everfree, that may have some sort of library, or at least some books of use, perhaps. It may be worth investigating, if we can get a group to head out there.
With Rusty out for the timebing though, looking for Moonstones, the rest of the group has been dealing with more local issues, as well as continued research into finding the books we need. However upon Dusk's return to the Center, Mirage points out a note left behind. Dusk is glad to see Rusty had made it back again. Well, momentarily back, it would seem, as he reads further. Dusk turns to Mirage and nods, "I certainly don't mind him borrowing any books. I hope things go well for them at the old palace. I wonder if they could find anything else useful there too." He certainly hopes we won't have any issues of Rusty not making it back.
