For anypony wondering how Marble proposed to Vinyl and such, I have this log buried in my records so I'll share it now. :3 Gives quite a lot of insight into their feelings at the time and how they felt around each other... Hope you find it as cute as I did! XD
It is a late night in Ponyville. One MArble Memory, Keeper of Artifacts, Master of Rituals, Filer of Late Study Paperwork, is groomed to perfection, wearing his best suit, and carrying flowers. He walks up to the door and knocks on it, trying to recite his speech to Vinyl.
Vinyl Scratch's heart pounds in her chest as she paces her living room floor. Glancing up at the clock, she hears its ticking louder than she would without such nerves. Tick, tick, tick. Seven fifty-seven pm. Marble will be here in three minutes, and the thought of it alone sends shockwaves up the unicorn's spine. She can't help feeling this way. She's a torn mare, torn between the wild child Trottingham DJ and the stylish, not-so-smooth-talking Canterlot bureaucrat. She isn't sure what draws her to be quite so smitten with Marble Memory. Perhaps it is their past that rendered it inevitable.
Marble waits a moment again, still holding the flowerrs, feeling perhaps a bit overwhelmed by his own feelings. He watches the flowers, seeing if perhaps there's a sign of imperfection in them. Finally... he knocks again.
A second, louder knock rouses Scratch from her thoughts, and she sighs, straightens down her mane, glancing in the hallway mirror to make sure she looks okay. A part of her mind tells her to stop fussing. He's her best friend, after all - always has been - but now... Now things were getting different. Another sigh, and the DJ braces herself before opening the door and putting on her most sincere, welcoming smile.
And there are flowers! Marble is holding them out just as she opens the door, hoping she'll accept them, and him along with them. "Darling Vinyl. I've been thinking about you all day. I couldn't stop."
Vinyl's heart warms but doesn't slow in its thumping as her date begins to speak; perhaps even increasing a little. "Oh, Marble..." she says, almost inexplicably breathless. Taking the stallion's hoof, she gently pulls him inside, shuts the door behind him and takes the flowers. She puts them on a nearby table, before staring at her stallion and doing the only thing she feels she can. She pushes him up against the wall and presses her lips to his.
Marble is surprised, needless to say, by the sudden kissing, but he rolls with it, wrapping his hooves about Vinyl and returns the kiss for a good several minutes. Finally breaking the kiss, Marble says, "Wow. Y-you... certainly can greet a stallion, Vinyl."
Vinyl smiles as the two pull apart, face flushed, arms wound tightly around the bureaucrat. She leans in and presses her muzzle to his shoulder, breathing in his scent. Is he wearing cologne? Sighing dreamily, she pulls back once more to gaze into Marble's eyes. "I guess I've been thinking about you a lot, too," she says.
"Well, I think that was pretty obvious with that kiss just now, darling." Marble says somewhat glibly. "U-um...what would you like to do this evening?"
The unicorn giggles, leaning forward to smooch the stallion's cheek warmly. "Come in here," she says, trotting smoothly into the living room and beckoning her coltfriend to follow her. "I'll get you a drink, what would you like?" she suggests, magically levitating the flowers from the hallway and placing them in a vase with some water, gazing around for a suitable place to put them.
"I... I-I like scotch." Marble says, then fidgets his hooves madly. Oh, maybe he is making a mistake. Maybe Vinyl is breaking up with him! And what would her fans say? The stallion looks at the door, wondering if he'll get to know it soon. No... NO! Don't let doubt get in the way. "H... h-how about yourself?"
"Then we'll have scotch," says Vinyl with a giggle, trotting to the kitchen to find her alcohol cupboard. "But not too much. I wanna remember tonight if that's okay," she says, bringing two small glasses in a moment later and sitting on the couch. "Come here, Marble. Don't be so shy." she says, hiding her own nerves with acute precision.
Marble looks at Vinyl. Then the drink. Then he takes the drink and... inches in closer. So nervous. So scared. Finally, his fur just slightly touches hers. "Sh-shy? Me?"
And this is what Marble always does, fillies and gentlecolts, to make Vinyl want him more than anypony else. That shaking voice, that nervous touch, those timid yet adoring eyes. "C'mon, Marble," says Vinyl in a near-whisper, leaning in close enough so she can feel his breath on her cheek. "We've done this before." A long time ago, but it's true.
So Marble turns his head and plants a close affectionate kiss right on Vinyl's cheek. "It's a quiet evening tonight. Reminds me of nights after work. There'd be stars out and... so beautiful!"
"I can think of some other beautiful things," says Vinyl, reaching up with a hoof to gently stroke down Marble's face. "Being here with you is one. Takes me back to that summer," she smiles, taking a small sip of her scotch. "Here we are again."
"Oh... oh, that summer. High school." Marble says, reaching for his scotch, taking it, lifting it toward his lips. "High school." He sips his scotch. keeps it in hoof. "That *dance.* I never knew it until now... happiest... happiest moment of my..." MArble sets the Scotch down and kisses Vinyl, wrapping his hooves around her.
Vinyl is a little surprised when she is suddenly kissed, and setting her scotch on the table, she leans back into the couch and wraps her hooves tight around the stallion, daring enough to gently flicker her tongue across his lips. She's pretty sure she can't breathe now, but she doesn't care. She'd die happy in Marble's arms.
Marble finishes kissing Vinyl. And it just... it all matters to him now. Her. This place. What he is doing. He looks around. He doesn't know what to use... but... he takes Vinyl's hooves, and gently sinks his way down to the floor. "Vinyl..."
Vinyl looks at the stallion, eyes glittering in the pale light. Her heart is on absolute full-burn now; a blazing fire of uncontrollable feelings and memories and love, unable to be detained for too long. She tries to catch her breath. It's overwhelming. "M-Marble? What are you... What are you doing?"
Marble does not have a ring. He doesn't even have anyting that could pass for a ring. So... he just rubs her hoof. "I... hadn't planned this out. But... I'll make up for it. Vinyl Vivaldi Mozart Scratch..."
Vinyl shudders as a wave of unexpected pleasure and thrill courses through her veins. She's pretty sure about what Marble's about to say to her, and she grips the stallion's hoof. Oh Celestia, please let it be true! Please!
Marble freezes in place. Is he going to do this. He shakes a little. "N... n-n-no! I can do this. Icandothis." Marble says and takes a few deep breaths. "Will you... will you... will... you... m... m-marry...?"
