Medley looks between the two of them, then suddenly starts to wonder how rich Merry could make the local psychiatrist. She would pay good money to see the video of that conversation. ".. Yep." She trails off a bit with a slow nod of her head, then slouches back once more into her booth, staring down at her hooves as they lightly tap a beat upon the tabletop.
Merryweather beams! SEE!? WINGS. "You can talk over the weather with Snow Bolt, here! He'll be working the Ponyville Area, so, you'll have lots of time to get to know each other! OH! WOW! LOOK AT MY WRIST! I have to go all blurry and wind up in another spot in town! Talk to you later!" Not surprisingly, she zips away, leaving only a Merryweather-shaped
cloud behind. It eats the last crispy rice square and then poofs into nothing.
Skyheart enters into the market with a sort of apprehension about him. His pet dove is tucked gently into his saddlebags looking about calmly, cooing lightly. As instructed, he's got himself a bit further together and has a nice big bouquet of blue roses. He takes in a deep breath and inwardly questions why he's even doing this. He waits by a tree awkwardly.
Merryweather has disconnected.
Snow_Bolt watches Merryweather zip off as she does. What can you possibly say about Merry that everypony hasn't said? Not too much he would imagine, "Merry is a very unique pony. She knows alot about weather....just everything else doesn't always make sense." Medley has probably already figured that out by now, "She means well though."
"Been working with her for years. She's one of my favorites. I'm just having a bad day." Medley says to Snow Bolt, then tilts her head over to Skyheart as she spies him with the blue roses that she requested. Oh. Geez. He really took this seriously? ".. Err.. Hey, I gotta go, uh.. I sorta have this date that I know I'm going to screw up on. So.. yeah.. nice wings." She says to the unicorn with a lopsided grin, then noses the crispy treats over to him before sliding out and heading towards Skyheart.
Skyheart shrinks with apprehension as he notices that the mare from eariler doesn't look entirely enthused to see him. He sighs bit and looks to the dove in his saddlebag pocket. "Well.... it could be worse, right?"
Once she reaches him, Medley looks him over for a moment, then lets out a sigh. Peeking up out of her green mane with her blue eyes, she says, ".. So.. uh - yeah.. hey. I.. forgot to put my dress on. I was kinda.. sitting on this bench feeling sorry for myself. Look, we don't gotta do this if you don't want to."
Skyheart sighs. "You got roped into this, too, huh?" He shakes his head. "Sorry... Seems some of my 'friends' decided they need to set me up on dates until I find somepony I like... It's a long story."
"No, I didn't get roped into it. Rising Dawn just thought you and I would make a good couple." Medley say as she rubs the back of her neck, then softly coughs a few times. "Seriously, if you want to peace out on me, you can. I'm hardly a 'catch', and I'd just bore you to death, or break out into song. I do that sometimes. It's kinda my thing."
Skyheart chuckles and almost mirrors the rubbing of the neck motion. "Heh. I cannot count how many times I've totally lost awareness of my environment. My talent is... weird. When I was younger I used to be made fun of for it." He glances at the rose adorning him. "Try to guess."
"You write romantic poetry and stories. Everypony knows who you are, Skyheart." Medley says as she tucks her wings in against her body a bit tighter. "Which makes the fact that you can't seem to find a nice mare to settle down with to be pretty hilarious." Pause. "Errr -- what I mean is that.. well.. alright it's not hilarious. Sorry."
Skyheart raises a hoof and shakes his head. "It's... fine. Don't worry about that. I just... Romance might be my talent but I have a bit of a difficulty with it on a personal level..." He admits. "Long story. I won't bore you with it."
Medley nods her head slightly, then reaches out to take the roses from him. Tucking them into her saddlebag, she gives him a smile. "Anyways, thanks for these. So, I hear you're taking Merryweather out also, huh?"
A shadow falls over the cafe from the air. It's long and lean and skimming and lithe. It's shaped like an enormous dragonfly, which isn't shocking given it's being cast by an enormous dragonfly, or at least a brightly painted airship that /looks/ like one, slung below a cloud-patterned gas envelope of Hydrium. A megaphone booms. *KTCH* "ATTENTION SKYHEART. IT IS <SPECIFIED PLACE> AT <DESIGNATED TIME>. WE HAVE YOU SURROUNDED. I MEAN. PREPARE TO BE GLEEFUL AND FULL OF JOY AS YOU ARE DATED TO PLUS OR MINUS TWENTY THOUSAND YEARS. THIS IS NOT A DRILL. A DRILL IS A USEFUL CARPENTRY TOOL, AND THIS IS A SOCIAL DATE, WHICH IS NOT AT ALL USEFUL TO CARPENTRY. THAT IS ALL." *TCH*
Skyheart winces a bit. "Um... kind of. She was the one my friend Bardigan set me up with and then talked me into setting up a second date. No real time or place given only that it'll be hallmarked by a massive airship." He sighs and droops his ears. "And that's not even getting into the girl who's been chasing after me before thi-" His ears perk up at a VERY loud announcement coming from the massive shadow that just blotted out the sun. The look on his face is nothing short of shocked confusion but it quickly turns to a flat dull expression. "Of course... It HAD to be timed just to this particular moment."
Tilting her head upwards, Medley stares open eyed at the sight of the airship hovering over them. ".. Wow. That.. totally.. one ups my dinner plans at Tobiano." Her wings falter slightly as she drops her head. Shifting her gaze to him, she bumps her shoulder to his for a moment, then gives him a grin. "Go get 'em tiger?" She offers, then starts to trot off.
The airship drifts down a bit, and when it's looming low and silent, Merry zips over the side. Why does she need an airship, again? Oh, right. For the SPIFF factor. "HIIII!~ I'm here to pick you up, Skyheart! That's both figurative, as in I will lift your spirits, and literal, as in, I will place you on board my airship and your body will move upwards! HEY MEDLEY! READY TO DOUBLE DATE!?" Is she serious? She is.
Skyheart watches the imposing airship with impunity. "I can see that..." He says weakly. "Um..." He looks to Medley. "I didn't plan this, I swear..."
"I know, it's typical Merryweather." Medley says with a slight grin upon her face as she feels her mane rustle with the motion of the airship's descent. "Uh, Hi Merry! I.. did not .. put my dress on yet. Then again I haven't bought my dress yet either." Her ears falter back against her skull. "I guess I can borrow a dress." She mumbles. "Are you wearing a dress?!"
One cannot /plan/ Merryweather. Merryweather, like the climate she helps design, is a force of nature. She is not wearing a dress! She's wearing her usual military flightsuit, the one that just cries out for her to invade a foreign land. She's got her goggles up and most of her mane out from under the leather cap the goggles are attached too, though, and she's got three little gleaming stars in the mane, which Skyheart gave her. Actually she scooped them from the dizzy-swirl around his head when he banged into a tree last time they met. Same thing. "It is casual Tuesday!" she reassures to Medley. "Casual Tuesday falls on a Monday this month! C'mon aboard! ALL HOOVES ON DECK!"
Skyheart blinks a bit and looks to Medley for a moment. "Um... I guess that means we'd better get on board before we wake up in the captain's quarters covered in roses and bandages." He says chuckling. "Long story."
".. That actually sounds more like an ideal date to me." Medley says with wide eyes to Skyheart as a grin widens upon her muzzle. Like, seriously. She's a biker girl at heart, that is if ponies ever rode bikes. With a long breath, she follows after him, then unfurls her wings and soars upwards to meet up with Merryweather.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ABOARD THE COMPASS ROSE~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The Compass Rose is not so large on board as it appears from below, when it's looming over you in Ponyville. Really, it's more of a yacht than anything else. Merry doesn't bother tossing over the rope ladder since both of them are pegasi, too.
She beams happily as she steers the nimble craft out of the market, and then begins to rise before tying off the wheel. "LET THERE BE ROMANTIC DATING." she announces, and then there's a sudden flare of furious hornet anger and she's nose to nose with Medley. "We will see which of us is the best mare for Skyheart! And the loser will face the death of a thousand death-things that hurt!" Wait, what?
Skyheart lurches back and sweats a little. "Um... H-How about we just settle for a friendly pat on the back or something?"
Medley squints her eyes at Merry as she rumbles out in a angry tone. "You think you're the best mare for him because you have this big airship and your megaphone? I'll have you know that I will win him, and I will do it /old school/. Lady, you have no clue what you're dealing with here." Shoving her nose up against Merry's, she says, "Bring your A game." After a quick hiss, she leans back and turns to Skyheart, giving him a bright smile. "Now, Skyheart, tell me, do you like to dance?"
Merryweather huff, huff. It is so on. She zips into the lounge cabin and flashes back out with Mareopoly and Ponycheesi!
Her A game, indeed! She lets Medley have the first try, the poor sap, while she maneuvers the airship ever higher, higher, entering a more rumbling layer of clouds.
Skyheart is a little taken aback. "I um... Well... I...." He has to take a moment to process all that's going on. Dealing with Merryweather by herself is trying enough. "O-Okay um... well..."
"Mareopoly! Man, I rule this one." Medley takes the game and trots off over to a table, then starts to set it up with a hum in her throat. "I want to be the thimble!" Because it's weird to include one in the game. Ponies do not have thumbs. So, she wants to have the weird piece.
Merryweather wants the shoe! Which is also... yeah, not really something ponies wear all that much. As Medley sets the game up, she zip-blurs over to Skyheart! "WHISPER SWEET NOTHINGS THAT ARE SOMETHING IN MY EAR, DARLING. Let us make beautiful music together, as soon as I find my kazoo!"
Skyheart is even more confused now. What did any of this have to do with a board game? "Um..." He's still too dumbfounded to even consider inspiration for anything yet.
"Skyheart, darling! Come here and tell me that I'm beautiful! Speak to me the words of romance that you would put into your poetry!" Medley calls over as she shakes the dice and rolls them on to the table, taking her thimble and tapping it across seven squares.
Merryweather ties off the wheel again, the ship is now skimming across the surface of a churning stormcloud that goes on in every direction as far as a pony can see! It looks like a sea, punctuated with bright little flares of lightning under the cloud layer. It's an amazing sight for a non-weather pony, and Merry tries to yank Skyheart to the railing to look.
"Behold! I AM OZYMANDIAS! Only not really! I'm Merryweather! ~HIIII~ I think we've met. ISN'T THIS SPIFF! Gawk a bit-- I need to move my shoe. Shoes don't move by themselves." Merry leaves him there and buzzbombs the game, rolling dice and moving her shoe in a single blur.
Skyheart just decides that this is a proper course of action and chooses to look out the window for a while. The sight of the endless stormcloud /was/ truly a breathtaking sight to behold, but not quite in his realm of inspiration. There's not much romantic to be had about a rampaging thunderstorm, no matter how impressive it looks.
"Ha, I'm so buying Reading Railroad." Medley croons out as she throws out the proper bills to the bank, then picks up the card to put in front of her. Glancing over her shoulder to Skyheart, she furrows her brows. "Um.. Skyheart, everything okay? If you wanted to be the Thimble you coulda said so."
Merryweather buzzes up to Skyheart and /leeeeans/ against one side of him. "He is stupefied with adoration for me! It has left him without speech! His consonants are gone! Let us woo, under the stars!" Leaning out over the side of the airship, she... makes a very strange ~wooooo~ing sound. It's reminiscent of Curly.
Skyheart keeps focus on the roaring storm up until the point Merry starts to lean into him. "Um... I thought you two were playing your game." He says.
Soon, Medley is on the other side of Skyheart, leaning over to smoosh him between the two mares. "Skyheart, it's your turn! You can be the dog if you want." Leaning in to butt her muzzle against his ear, she says softly, "If you like her more, I'll jump over the railing of this ship. Don't think I won't."
Merryweather presses against his other side. Nuzzles against his other ear. "If you choose her, I'll crash us all into Mount Everfree, don't think I won't!" Skyheart, you mare-magnet, you!
Skyheart isn't particularly happy with this. It's less romantic and more blackmail. The look on his face is downright horrified at this point.
Medley glances past him to Merry, then leans back to give Skyheart a smile. "Aw, c'mon Skyheart, we're just messing with you. Just trying to get a laugh out of you. See, this is why I was kinda 'eh' on the whole idea. Wet towel." She sighs out as she ambles back to the table. "C'mon Merry, it's your turn to roll the dice."
Merryweather droops. Awww, they didn't even get to have a popcicle fight on the deck. Medley spoiled the joke. She pokes at Skyheart. "Don't believe everything you read especially when it's two mares messing with your head!" She buzzles back to the game and gives Medley a high hoof for pranking Skyheart a little.
Skyheart lets out an exasperated sigh and hangs his head low in frustration. "Lucky me..."
Medley gives Merry a high hoof in return, giggling slightly before she looks over to see Skyheart looking miserable. Sigh. Siiiigh. With a quick smile to Merry, she ambles back over to the poet, then leans in against him as her wrings wrap about his body. Nuzzling his neck with her muzzle, she says, "Hey, come on over and join us? The first date doesn't have to be romantic and filled with music and flowers. I just want to get to know you."
Merryweather breaks out her supplies from the cubboards of the lounge cabin, and as you'd expect from Merry, there's every kind of dessert known to ponykind and a few that defy classification. Ok, that one has caramel on it, but there's not much else you can tell. "It's your own fault, Skyheart! You let your friend with the silly hat try and /make/ you go out on dates you didn't want to! I mean, pff, you're a nice pony and all but you're /so/ not my type. You need to find your own special somepony! AND THAT IS THE WARM FUZZY MESSAGE FOR TODAY. Want some cider!?"
Skyheart isn't paying attention to Merry right now. The wing touch sent him ducking and whimpering. "D-Don't.... please.... I... I'm not ready..." He's got his hooves over his head as if to shield from falling debris.
Medley blinks her eyes a bit and backs off a few steps as Skyheart suddenly gets defensive. With an uncomfortable look on her face, she leaps up to the railing of the ship, then leaps off of it with a quick flare of her wings. There is a loud noise of frustration in her throat as she divebombs down through the skies, thinking that she is going to sing the song of her people. Blitzkrieg! Ride the lightning! After her descent, the loud rumbling of subsonic booms can be heard.
Merryweather sighs and puts the cider down, by which, we mean, she drinks it. It's down. She shrugs. "C'mon, I'll take you back to Ponyville if you want! Nothing like skimming clouds, though, you don't know what you're missing!"
Skyheart peers around now that the 'danger' is gone. "Wh-Where'd she go?" He asks.
Merryweather zips to the railing and leans over with a precarious angle that should be terrifying at this altitude, except, duh, she's got wings. "She flew off! IT'S LIKE SHE WAS A PEGASUS OR SOMETHING! Weird, huh?"
Skyheart blinks. "She WHAT!?" He rushes to the edge of the ship and looks out the now open port window. "Is... Is she okay?
I... I..." His ears droop and he slumps to the floor. "I screwed up, didn't I? I didn't want to upset anypony..."
Eyerolling, Merry zips into the wheelhouse and does a few things with the rudder and the ballast, the ship gracefully turning and then banking below the clouds, heading back towards Ponyville. There's a moment of turbulence as it dips into the storm, quickly done. Merry has many faults but poor piloting is not among them. She ties off the wheel again. "She's
a WEATHER PONY. She flies from Cloudsdale to Ponyville /all the time!/ Don't be crazy in the face and tail, she's fine, she just decided not to stick around. C'mon, we were just trying to teach you to find your own dates and not let other ponies set you up!"
Skyheart takes a breath and looks back at her. "You think I haven't been telling Bardigan that? And now the doctor gets in on this? Ugh... Why can't they just let me be!?"
Merryweather zips in close, nose to nose. "ARE YOU A STALLION OR A PARASPRITE!?" She huffs as she pace-zips, back and forth, back and forth. "Tell them to buzz off!" Her wings buzz, hornet-like. "Tell them you'll meet somepony special when you want to, and it's none of their business! TELL BIRDAGAIN HE STILL OWES ME TEN POUNDS OF NIGHTMARE NIGHT CANDY, WHILE YOU'RE AT IT! Wait. Nevermind, don't make that your problem. I'll put a raincloud over his house to remind him. The point is the thing that you poke ponies with and mine is that your love life is nopony's business but your own!"
Skyheart sighs. "I didn't even /know/ about these things until they HAPPENED, though. That's the thing."
By now the Compass Rose is skimming over real water, the lake outside of Ponyville. She thinks it looks almost like a cloud! It's weird seeing water in liquid form when it's not falling, though. Strange place. "YOU'RE OK, SKYHEART. Try not to take life so seriously! Turn your frown upside down and then put some rock candy into it, sometime. Do you a world of good. JUST MAKE SURE IT'S ROCK CANDY AND NOT REAL ROCKS."
Skyheart sighs. "Thanks... I'll just... I should go now..." He says, "I'll try to avoid these if I can." He gives a light nods before looking outside the ship.
Bringing the airship down over the edge of town, Merry lightly pushes it nose into the wind, bringing it to a bobbing halt, just slightly drifting. She ties off the wheel. "They say everypony has somepony special for them! Just keep looking, Skyheart-- you'll find her!" She buzzbombs the poet and very lightly smooches his nose, before shooing him over the side. "G'wan, get outta here, you crazy kid!"
Skyheart gives a sigh. "Thanks... I'll let you know how things go." He says as he starts to leave the ship. He looks down to his bags as he does so. Seems Orpheus fell asleep a while ago.
Merryweather beams! SEE!? WINGS. "You can talk over the weather with Snow Bolt, here! He'll be working the Ponyville Area, so, you'll have lots of time to get to know each other! OH! WOW! Leaning in to butt her muzzle against his ear, she says softly, "If you like her more, I'll jump over the railing of this ship. Don't think I won't."
Merryweather presses against his other side. Nuzzles against his other ear. "If you choose her, I'll crash us all into Mount Everfree, don't think I won't!" Skyheart, you mare-magnet, you!
Skyheart isn't particularly happy with this. It's less romantic and more blackmail. The look on his face is downright horrified at this point.
Medley glances past him to Merry, then leans back to give Skyheart a smile. "Aw, c'mon Skyheart, we're just messing with you. Just trying to get a laugh out of you. See, this is why I was kinda 'eh' on the whole idea. Wet towel." She sighs out as she ambles back to the table. "C'mon Merry, it's your turn to roll the dice."
Merryweather droops. Awww, they didn't even get to have a popcicle fight on the deck. Medley spoiled the joke. She pokes at Skyheart. "Don't believe everything you read especially when it's two mares messing with your head!" She buzzles back to the game and gives Medley a high hoof for pranking Skyheart a little.
Skyheart lets out an exasperated sigh and hangs his head low in frustration. "Lucky me..."
Medley gives Merry a high hoof in return, giggling slightly before she looks over to see Skyheart looking miserable. Sigh. Siiiigh. With a quick smile to Merry, she ambles back over to the poet, then leans in against him as her wrings wrap about his body. Nuzzling his neck with her muzzle, she says, "Hey, come on over and join us? The first date doesn't have to be romantic and filled with music and flowers. I just want to get to know you."
Merryweather breaks out her supplies from the cubboards of the lounge cabin, and as you'd expect from Merry, there's every kind of dessert known to ponykind and a few that defy classification. Ok, that one has caramel on it, but there's not much else you can tell. "It's your own fault, Skyheart! You let your friend with the silly hat try and /make/ you go out on dates you didn't want to! I mean, pff, you're a nice pony and all but you're /so/ not my type. You need to find your own special somepony! AND THAT IS THE WARM FUZZY MESSAGE FOR TODAY. Want some cider!?"
Skyheart isn't paying attention to Merry right now. The wing touch sent him ducking and whimpering. "D-Don't.... please.... I... I'm not ready..." He's got his hooves over his head as if to shield from falling debris.
Medley blinks her eyes a bit and backs off a few steps as Skyheart suddenly gets defensive. With an uncomfortable look on her face, she leaps up to the railing of the ship, then leaps off of it with a quick flare of her wings. There is a loud noise of frustration in her throat as she divebombs down through the skies, thinking that she is going to sing the song of her people. Blitzkrieg! Ride the lightning! After her descent, the loud rumbling of subsonic booms can be heard.
Merryweather sighs and puts the cider down, by which, we mean, she drinks it. It's down. She shrugs. "C'mon, I'll take you back to Ponyville if you want! Nothing like skimming clouds, though, you don't know what you're missing!"
Skyheart peers around now that the 'danger' is gone. "Wh-Where'd she go?" He asks.
Merryweather zips to the railing and leans over with a precarious angle that should be terrifying at this altitude, except, duh, she's got wings. "She flew off! IT'S LIKE SHE WAS A PEGASUS OR SOMETHING! Weird, huh?"
Skyheart blinks. "She WHAT!?" He rushes to the edge of the ship and looks out the now open port window. "Is... Is she okay?
I... I..." His ears droop and he slumps to the floor. "I screwed up, didn't I? I didn't want to upset anypony..."
Eyerolling, Merry zips into the wheelhouse and does a few things with the rudder and the ballast, the ship gracefully turning and then banking below the clouds, heading back towards Ponyville. There's a moment of turbulence as it dips into the storm, quickly done. Merry has many faults but poor piloting is not among them. She ties off the wheel again. "She's
a WEATHER PONY. She flies from Cloudsdale to Ponyville /all the time!/ Don't be crazy in the face and tail, she's fine, she just decided not to stick around. C'mon, we were just trying to teach you to find your own dates and not let other ponies set you up!"
Skyheart takes a breath and looks back at her. "You think I haven't been telling Bardigan that? And now the doctor gets in on this? Ugh... Why can't they just let me be!?"
Merryweather zips in close, nose to nose. "ARE YOU A STALLION OR A PARASPRITE!?" She huffs as she pace-zips, back and forth, back and forth. "Tell them to buzz off!" Her wings buzz, hornet-like. "Tell them you'll meet somepony special when you want to, and it's none of their business! TELL BIRDAGAIN HE STILL OWES ME TEN POUNDS OF NIGHTMARE NIGHT CANDY, WHILE YOU'RE AT IT! Wait. Nevermind, don't make that your problem. I'll put a raincloud over his house to remind him. The point is the thing that you poke ponies with and mine is that your love life is nopony's business but your own!"
Skyheart sighs. "I didn't even /know/ about these things until they HAPPENED, though. That's the thing."
By now the Compass Rose is skimming over real water, the lake outside of Ponyville. She thinks it looks almost like a cloud! It's weird seeing water in liquid form when it's not falling, though. Strange place. "YOU'RE OK, SKYHEART. Try not to take life so seriously! Turn your frown upside down and then put some rock candy into it, sometime. Do you a world of good. JUST MAKE SURE IT'S ROCK CANDY AND NOT REAL ROCKS."
Skyheart sighs. "Thanks... I'll just... I should go now..." He says, "I'll try to avoid these if I can." He gives a light nods before looking outside the ship.
Bringing the airship down over the edge of town, Merry lightly pushes it nose into the wind, bringing it to a bobbing halt, just slightly drifting. She ties off the wheel. "They say everypony has somepony special for them! Just keep looking, Skyheart-- you'll find her!" She buzzbombs the poet and very lightly smooches his nose, before shooing him over the side. "G'wan, get outta here, you crazy kid!"
Skyheart gives a sigh. "Thanks... I'll let you know how things go." He says as he starts to leave the ship. He looks down to his bags as he does so. Seems Orpheus fell asleep a while ago.
