( The house Bardigan occupies with his sister isn't TOO far away from Everfree forest. Oh, it's plenty safe but it isn't outside the boundaries of caution, as well. Tonight- in the depths of the evening, somewhere nestled within the early hours of the AM, comes the dreadful howl of a Timberwolf. Somewhere close to the house- too close for comfort, followed a rattling, resounding, vibrating KABOOM, which is unmistakable as Diamond crashing into the earth. (She has a very unique sounding crash) There's another howl, but this time it's broken off half way rather suddenly... )
Bardigan shoots up in bed, staring at the opposite wall as he listens for more sounds. That was definitely a Diamond kind of crash: big, reckless, and without any regard for collateral damage. After a few moments of no sound, he leaps out of bed without putting on his hat and rushes out the door. "DIAMOND!" he calls into the woods, though he sounds more like a stern parent than a worried pony. "NO SMASHING THINGS PAST YOUR CURFEW!"
To Diamonds credit, the little filly had a reason- maybe. There are a number of branches and twigs, sticks and stones and debris crowded around the crater where Bardigan can find his little sister out in the back yard, along with a small band of Timberwolves, crowded around her. The little filly flickers a dark glance around her, and pounces one of those wolves with the tenacity of a frenzied berserker- making short work of the creature, and the additional one that comes to it's aid. She's...different some how. There's almost the notion- almost the sediment, almost the contrived and clearly unacceptable concept that Diamond sought these wolves out on her own. But that's ridiculous. The two remaining wolves attempt to flee- to race back towards the forest, but they don't make it. Like some slow motion horror film thinly filtered with reality, Diamond races down the first fleeing creature- and then the second, pouncing atop it's back, and tearing through the branches and sticks, and the very magic woven through it's features to hold it together, leaving it a mess of scattered flora along the ground. She sits there, huffing with adrenaline and finally, slowly turns towards Bardigan. "What?" She hisses, as if his presence were a nuisance.
Bardigan peers at Diamond for many long, quiet seconds. "What's the matter, little gem?" he wonders, coming forward. "You're upset. I can tell."
Diamond_Dancer turns slowly towards the darkness where her brother is speaking to her. She sits there, midst the freshly carved corpses and peers at him quietly in the darkness- her eyes glinting ever so slightly with a hint of the moonlight's glow. "I'm fine." She says crisply.
"No, you're not," Bardigan says, shaking his head. He trots forward without any fear or hesitation, never one to leave his sister in a funk. He reaches out and tries to enclose her with his wing. "Talk to me, Diamond. Please? We're the only ones out here."
Diamond_Dancer glances down to the sticks left around her hooves and then back up to her brother, shuddering at the simple touch of his wing against her features. They're the only ones out there- now.- anyway. "I still have da collar. Princess Luna can't see me right away. I HATE having to wait, after all da trouble I went through to get da ding. "She huffs quietly. "It's ...makin me...really...really...angry. "She growls. "And I'm still mad at Red Velvet... And I don't know. It's like my head is just...fulla dese...angry thoughts. "She grumbles.
Bardigan sighs and draws Diamond a little closer, bowing down to hear her better. "It's all right," he whispers. "I destroyed that accursed amulet. Red's all right. And you're all right. That Nightmare... Diamond, there was nothing we could *do.* I don't think there *is* anything that can hurt them save the Elements, and we certainly didn't have those. Nothing that happened there was your fault."
Diamond_Dancer shakes her head a low grow riddling along her voice. "Dat ain't true. "She huffs. "When you'se was pinned down I knocked it ovah, and you'se stabbed it wif dat spear. You'se hoyt it. If we can hoyt it, we can KILL it. And dat'll be one less nightmare in da world ta deal wiff. "She explains, shaking her head. "I told Red NOT to talk to dat ding, and da foyst ding she does when she's out of my sight, is talk to a horror beast she don't undahstand. I thought I could TRUST HER!" She snarls suddenly, body lighting up with aggression. "She tricked me, just like dat Nightmare. Just like Everyoddah pony I know. Cept you'se Bardigan." She growls, even angry at the fact that theres only one pony she thinks she can trust.
"And that just proves it was playing us the whole time. None of us could have known it was down there. Perhaps it just *wanted* us to believe it was hurt, so we would fight that creature for it. Perhaps... I don't know. All I know Diamond is that you are far too young to take this kind of blame upon yourself." He pushes his head against her. "Listen to me. You have so much time left it's better not to spend it thinking of what *could* have been done. And Red... what she did was wrong. But whatever she was planning didn't happen. We stopped it."
Diamond_Dancer's ears perk immediately at that phrase -time left- No, the only reason she's currently alive is BECAUSE of a Nightmare- a creature, whom species Diamond is growing to fondly hate. Her ears peel backwards and she breaks away from her brother's embrace like he were attempting to strangle her. "Hate dose dings. "She sputters. "I. Did it. I killed dat...crystal monstah. I made da mistake, I let it out. Da second one I've freed. I was played like a puppet, and I hate it. And I hate -her-." She growls- referring of course to Red. "Why are you defending her?! What's her POINT?! She'd have sold us over to dat ding if she could...I never did git ta teach her dat lesson...not to mess wif my family...I'll show her, though...
"I'm not defending her Diamond," Bardigan whispers. "I'm saying that worrying about it won't help you. We don't know why or how she was able to do what she did... it surprised me as much as it did you. But the point is we cannot let anger rule our actions. I've learned that never turns out well. You did the best you could and you *got the collar back.* That's what you were sent there for. Everything else was extraneous. Beyond our pay grade, if you will. You did what Luna sent you there to do. She will never begrudge you what you had no control over."
Diamond_Dancer shakes her head quietly. Anger doesn't rule our actions. Thats just stupid! That's CRAZY! That doesn't make any sense, and she sits back, in sudden confusion. "...I..."She trails off, looking at Bardigan with a foreign expression- like she's suddenly forgotten who he is- or suddenly remembered who he was. Her weakness. Her savior. The core rule of her being- don't hurt Bardigan. He's your brother. You love him- so that inner conflict with the desire to tear his head off having said something so very stupid gives her pause. "I...dink...I need to lay down for a minute. "She mumbles, standing up shakily, and heading towards the house.
Bardigan watches Diamond stumble away, standing up quietly. "Diamond?" he asks, wondering what could be wrong. She's never been this out of sorts before - and the thought of what else might have happened to her in that awful pit gives him a sinking feeling in his stomach. "I'll... make you some hot cocoa?" he offers. He knows she likes it. He offered her a cup the first time she set hoof in his house.
There's no response, however, aside from the echoing silence of the night, and the sound of the door to the house closing quietly.
