Characters: Skyheart, Rainbow Dash, Medley
Setting: Skyheart's feeling down so Rainbow tries to cheer him up. Then, Medley happens
Skyheart is sitting by the lake with a somewhat worried look. He's trying to get the past week or two out of his head. At least he was feeling... kind of normal again. Well it didn't feel normal anymore. He'd have to get used to his own body again. He sighs and skims a hoof along the water dully.
Rainbow_Dash zooms across the sky with palpable purpose: it's time to inspect her daily weather route. She flies between several batches of clouds, her rainbow-coloured contrail diffusing like watercolour paint amidst the moist, dewy air of that attitude. In time, she banks downward to inspect the lower regions of the atmosphere, but who else should she see but Skyheart, now re-stallioned. "Whoa, hey!" she shouts from above, a breeze shunted aside in a swirl of air thanks to her sudden change in direction. Her cyan form descends, coming to a hover near the poet. "You're...you again!" she declares with some amazement.
Skyheart looks up at Dash with a sort of dull indifference. The reverting mental and hormonal changes that came with a physical one was still rather playing with him and he was tired out. Emotional fatigue was evident on his face. "Huh? Oh, yeah... Dusk helped me out. Guess I owe him one. Maybe I should go get Orpheus back soon, too..." He mutters, keeping himself low and looking at the water.
Rainbow_Dash peers at Skyheart curiously, his lingering distress obvious enough that even she could detect it. "Uh...I guess you're still working through the, uh...reversion?" Hey, she used a big word! That's...12 big words she knows now? "Hey, you're back to your normal self, so it's not that big a deal anymore, right?"
Skyheart hesitates to respond. "It... should be, yes. I just need time. Time to get everything sorted out and my mind back on track." He mentions. He smacks his lips dryly, peering down at the water of the lake before leaning in to take a drink.
Rainbow_Dash stares. "Whoa, hey, you know you can get that filtered from the tap, right?" They're ponies, not animals! In all seriousness, Rainbow can see that Skyheart definitely has a lot of issues to work through. Luckily, she thinks she knows how to help him. "Yo, wanna have a drink together? That might help! I mean, just us pegasi talking about, uh....pegasus stuff!" Yeah she's got nothing.
Skyheart looks over at Rainbow Dash with a rather unamused look. He KNEW they had nothing in common outside of her closet poetic streak she hides behind an iron vault guarded with orbital lazers. Still, perhaps it's better than this. "Sure... Should I go get my things?"
"Things? What?" Rainbow Dash says quizically. "Uh, sure sure if you have to." She figured that he was OK with just...coming along, but she probably forgot how fussy these artsy-types tend to be. "What kind of...things do you need?"
Skyheart shakes his head. "J-Just my bags... I like having my things with me. Makes me feel a bit more... secure." He says somewhat weakly. Truth be told he occasionally takes comfort in trying to hide behind or partially in them if need be. But he doubts that'll get him very far when she's around.
"Fine, fine," Rainbow Dash says impatiently, crossing her forelegs and waiting for Skyheart to get his stuff together. Oh, these artsy ponies, always so sensitive about things! "Don't take too long, princess, 'cause I gotta finish up my patrol afterwards." No offense, but those are just the facts, good sir!
Skyheart wicnes a bit and looks back at Rainbow Dash. "Wait, you're still on the clock? Why don't you finish that first? I ah... I can meet you somewhere afterward, you know. What about... um... Where were you planning on going?"
"Pfft, I make my /own/ schedule," says Rainbow Dash, who nevertheless has to get everything done when Cloudsdale wants it done. "I was gonna say, well...agh, /fine/." She uncrosses her forelegs and exhales in apparent exasperation. "I'll finish up, then, and meet you up in Cloudsdale. Should only take me about...half an hour thereabouts." Or shorter, in fact. She never had to wory about being late because...hey, she's Rainbow Dash. She /can't/ be late.
Skyheart nods slowly. "So... that restaurant up there then?" He comments, "What's it called... Cloud Nine? Does that sound okay?"
"Was just the place I was thinking of!" says Rainbow Dash. "I'll get my stuff done and you get yours. Later!" She rises up and then jets off, banking across the sky in a zig-zag pattern. Now...where is she? Right, gotta check Gamma sector next..
Cloud Nine
Floating high above Cloudsdale on its own private island of fleecy cumulus, you'll find /Cloud Nine/, Equestria's loftiest dining spot! While famed for spectacular vistas of both sky and ground, the cafe is rather relaxed and comfortable, the [MENU] light and-- dare we say-- breezy with refreshing specialties like iced frappés and leafy salads. The cafe is built within a hollow ellipse of cloud with large openings at the top and bottom, allowing easy flying access for any pegasus but high above any bad weather or turbulence. Ionic columns spaced evenly around the outer ring alternate with booths and tables for the diners, and vines of bright ivy trail from decorative amphorae. It's not uncommon to see a few celebrities among the patrons-- the Wonderbolts in particular-- but the place is popular with pegasi from all over. By day, dazzling views of the landscape are visible through the bottom opening; at night, the stars and sometimes even the Aurora Borealis shimmer through the open roof.
Skyheart has spent the last twenty minutes sitting at a table at the cafe. He came early mostly because of a lack of anything better to do. Perhaps the light Cloudsdale air would help him ground himself more (ironically.) He waits for his would-be companion to show up.
Sure enough, Rainbow Dash arrives, fashionably late (or maybe actually late) as she's wont to do. "Whoa, sorry!" she says, dodging past a patron as she comes in through the top entrance. "Hey Skyheart! Sorry about that, but some paper-pusher wanted me to sign something 'fore I got here. Buncha egg- er..." She looks perplexed for a second as she decides what to say next. "So how goes?" That'll have to do.

Skyheart shrugs. He has a glass of water in front of him (good water this time) and he's looking through a menu. "Just... waiting really." His bags are leaned against his chair obviously filled to the brim with his usual poems and writings.
Rainbow_Dash smirks. "Yeah, I know what you mean! I /hate/ waiting for stuff. I mean, if it's so good then why doesn't it happen sooner?" she says. "So, what're you waiting for, anyway?"
Skyheart lowers the menu to reveal the same unamused look he gave her before. "You invited me here..." He reminds her slowly. He takes a breath and goes for his water. Wincing a bit he glances back to her. "S...Sorry... Guess I'm a bit bitter considering all that's been going on."
"Oh, right," Rainbow Dash says, looking aside guiltily. "Hey, you're all better now and everypony will probably forget about this when the next crazy and weird thing happens. Let's just relax and stuff!" She opens a menu and peers at the choices, her brow becoming heavy with concentration. "Whatcha gonna get?" she asks, seemingly out of curiosity but really because she has trouble deciding.
Skyheart shrugs. "I ah... I don't know. I'm not exactly hungry. Maybe some of those garlic breadsticks but... Not much else I think..." He takes a deep breath and his eyes flash to his bag from time to time. He stores a little stress-relieving appetizer in there in the form of Orpheus's birdseed. He knew he promised Fluttershy and Bardigan that he'd stop eating it and he couldn't exactly take it out in a public place. That would just look weird.
Rainbow_Dash blinks. Oh boy. "You should ask for the pita bread; it's /really/ good, especially with the tzatziki. Guess I'll order an appetizer, too. Hey, waiter!" She calls the waiter, who has a notable Old Pegasi accent, and asks for the stuffed grape leaves. The waiter writes it down; there's still time if Skyheart wants anything.
Skyheart looks up at the waiter and takes the suggestion about the pita bread, ordering that. He then takes a quick glance at the weatherpony, trying to discern some sort of motive. It's hard for him to think when he's still winding down from the hormone cocktail that came with his unwanted transformation finally being reversed so right now all he DOES know is that he's been rather dull and irritable all day.
Heading into Cloud Nine is Medley who is looking exhausted as always. Rubbing at her eyes with a hoof, she gives a stretch of her body before asking for a table for one from the pony that greets her.
It turns out that pita bread is free for customers. As the waiter leaves to communicate the order Rainbow Dash takes a pita and dips it deep into the provided tzatziki. "Yo, you gonna eat?" she asks pointedly.
Skyheart snaps back into reality momentarily. "Huh? Oh... yeah... right..." He reaches carefully for a piece of bread and starts to eat it plain, occasionally taking a drink from his rapidly draining water glass. "Sorry it's just... been a rough few weeks, you know?"
After a quick scan of the cafe once she is led through it, Medley's ears perk up. "Hey! Dash! Skyheart!" Her voice calls over richly as she waves a hoof towards them.
As Rainbow Dash stuffs her face with pita she happens to glance at Skyheart, noting his downer expression rather wall. Her ears droop a little. "Yeah, I can see that," she observes. "You wanna...you wanna talk about it?" And then Medley interrupts. She cranes her head and peers at her friend. "Yo, Medley!" she says, waving. )
Skyheart jerks his head up a bit abrubptly when the tone suddenly got a lot lighter. "Huh? Oh. Hello there, Medley." He says, as plainly as he can without sounding like he didn't want to see her. He did want to watch his tone a bit more seeing as he's getting a bit more self aware of his emotional state. "What are you doing all the way out he- wait, you work up here... Duh." He shakes his head. Seems somepony's been on the ground for a bit too long.
"Yeah, I work here and just got off from an over night shift. I"m /tired/ and /starving/. Would it be okay if I joined you two or.. should I bugger off?" Medley asks with a lopsided smile on her face. Her mane is a bit frazzled and she looks exhausted.
Rainbow_Dash hesitates. Overnight shift? Probably another session with Discord, in fact! But she can't say that aloud, of course. "Sure, come sit with us, if you want!" Rainbow says, patting the space next to her. "I mean, if Skyheart doesn't mind, right?"
Skyheart shrugs lightly, showing indifference. There doesn't seem to be any harm in it as far as he's concerned. He gives a weak smile to her before looking back at the water, seemingly thinking about something.
Ears perking slightly, Medley trots over and slinks down into the seat next to Dash. She wavers for a moment before pulling the breadsticks over to break one in half. "You okay there Skyheart? You look kinda.. I dunno.. tired?"
"He's been through a lot," Rainbow Dash explains, "but he'll pull through, right Skyheart?" She gives the stallion a playful nudge.
Skyheart wobbles a bit when he'd nudged. He again distractedly looks back up to the two mares and gives an unsure smile. "Ah.. yeah. Yeah, I'll be okay. In fact... I might actually be going home soon." He mentions.
Medley flattens her ears back slightly. "You should.. " She pauses, then shrugs her shoulders as she jams a mouthful of bread into her muzzle.
"Yeah, Skyheart, you...wait, what?" Rainbow Dash looks at Medley, then at Skyheart, then at Medley again. "Uhhh," she utters, totally confuzzled, and a little frustrated. "C'mon Skyheart you should hang with othe ponies and stuff to get your mind away from...whatever's bugging you." Dodging the issue seems quite practical in her estimation.
Skyheart takes a deep breath. "That's kind of the point. There isn't a lot that /isn't/ bugging me right now." He looks back up to the two, "I'm thinking about going back to Manehatten."
"Oh, we just got back from there and had a great time." Medley says after swallowing that hunk of bread. "Merryweather ended up getting in the paper." Amused, she gives Dash a bump. "And Dash and I went dancing. Was really fun. Why would you wanna go back there though? You tired of living in the country?"
Unlike Medley, Rainbow Dash has a much more emotive response to Skyheart's proposition. "Wait, go back, as in...leave Ponyville?" she asks, disbelieving. "You sure about that? I mean, I dunno if you've thought this through properly."
Skyheart shakes his head. "Not much reason for me to stay, really. Everything that's been happening lately seems to have all started when I got here... I've been rumored, scandalled, hospitalized, brainwashed, and turned into things I'm not supposed to be all at least twice. I've had to sugarcoat my letters to my family so much I just stopped sending them entirely. I mean sure I have a lot of friends and associates but... lot of good that's been doing me lately. I don't think I'll be able to look my best friend in the face for at least another week until I'm sure I'm back to my old self."
Furrowing her brows, Medley tears off another piece of bread. "Well, I don't want you to go. I want you to stay. You were my first date after all and it will be weird not seeing you around Ponvyille." She looks amused for a moment before she hands over the piece of bread to him. "Sides, I think I owe you a third chance."
"Me neither!" Rainbow Dash says, dittoing. "Yeah, there's all sorts of things ponies say, but you know what, that doesn't really mean anything. What means something is...is...er..." She taps her temples for a second before coming up with her next words. "What means something is that you got ponies you know and care about in town, and you, well, you moved out of Manehattan for a reason right?"
Skyheart looks at the two for a while, hearing what they have to say. First he looks to Medley. "You're sure about that? My father always say everypony deserves a second chance, but never a third." He then looks at Rainbow Dash "Er... I came here looking for work, actually... It was either that or I took my mother's advice and moved to Fillydelphia."
Medley chuckles softly as she lifts her shoulders upwards in a shrug. "Yeah, I'm sure. But you gotta man up this time and not be such a wishy washy stick in the mud. Loosen up a bit and have fun and don't be afraid to let your feathers get ruffled once in awhile."
"Yeah," says Rainbow Dash, glad to be part of a team cheer-up effort. "I mean, I think you got something good happening here, personally. I never dreamed that I'd be working in a town liek this but now I'm glad I am."
Skyheart takes a deep breath and again downs the refilled glass of water. "I... I guess so. I mean... I wouldn't be going back to much either."
"Besides, all of this is Twilight's fault, well, and I guess your fault too, Rainbow Dash. Ponyville was normal until she came out here from Canterlot and got all magicked up with you and the five others. It was like a walking chaos magnet from there." Medley says as she shifts the blame to the left so to speak as she gives a grin.
Rainbow_Dash gives Medley a playful nudge. "C'mon, that's not fair!" she japes. Presently, the waiter returns with Rainbow's stuffed grape leaves, and Rainbow then proceeds to surprise him by paying up-front with a 20 Bit bill. "Keep the change," she says quietly. Now, where was she? Right. "Look, Skyheart, I think you gotta just...settle down for a bit before you make any big choices. I mean, that's what my dad always said."
Skyheart nods slowly. "I... Alright... Alright, I'll give it another chance." He seems a bit more normal and less gloomy, but he's still rather down. He glances to his bags and winces. "I should spend some time and clean that out later..." he mutters to himself.
"What's in your bags?" Medley asks curiously as she leans over a bit to peek.
Rainbow_Dash's ears perk. "Actually, yeah, I'm kinda curious what it is you're lugging around in there." She leans forward, munching her grape leaves, but the feta goodness inside them takes a backseat to her peevish curiosity.
Skyheart looks down to his bag and then back to the girls. "Just the usual, my writing materials, some bird seed for Orpheus, I think the remains of a bag of raisins." He peeks into it for a moment. "No... wait... Ew. I'm glad I didn't try to eat that." He looks back up at them, "That's the pocket Orpheus sits in."
"TMI Skyheart." Medley says as she looks down at her bread for a moment, then shrugs as she pops it into her mouth. She hasn't ordered anything for herself yet, because she seems content in just eating.. this free bread. It comes with butter and butter is awesome.
Rainbow_Dash chuckles as Skyheart finds the 'raisins'. She happens to glance at the time. Hey, she has plenty of it for once! Oh wait...horseapples! "Cripes, that Weather Patrol inspector wants me at HQ in five!" Immedietely she begins to stuff her entire bowl into her face, making quite a mess and attracting a few stares. "I'll catch you both later. Don't move out of Ponyville!" With that, she salutes them and, after roughly scrubbing her face with a napkin, she dives (literally) through the bottom entrance and out into the sky.
