We have officially ‘Beta opened’! Welcome, one and all, to EquestriaMUCK!
The connection details are:
Domain: equestria.kaitain.org
Port Number: 2700
If you’re familiar with MUCKs, go ahead and sign right on as a guest! If you have no idea what any of this means, don’t worry, just keep on reading this post to get an overview of MUCK Basics and very basic MUCK commands.
MUCK Basics:
To access a MUCK, you will need some kind of client. Two of the most popular for PCs (or those who can utilize a PC shell) are:
MUSHClient: www.gammon.com.au/mushclient/
TinyMUSH: tinymush.sourceforge.net/
A popular client for Macs is Atlantis, found: www.riverdark.net/atlantis/
You then access the address and port stated above:
Domain: equestria.kaitain.org
Port Number: 2700
Upon entering the address, you should see an ASCII picture of rainbow dash, with connection instructions. To connect as a guest, type the command ‘connect guest guest’ and then hit enter. This will log you in as a ‘guest’ to the MUCK, a temporary player character until you request a full one. From there, follow the instructions as they appear in each room.
Basic MUCK Commands:
There are three basic classes of MUCK Commands, beyond travel commands, which are indicated by brackets (<>) around the appropriate letter(s) in each room’s descriptions. They are: ‘In-Character (IC)’ and ‘Out-of-Character (OOC)’, and Communication. IC commands are commands used for roleplay itself: when you use these, it’s your character talking, moving, etc., not you! OOC commands are commands used for player interaction: this is for general player discussion in a given room. Naturally, please keep this to a minimum in roleplay-intense rooms! The commands are presented in the following format.
Command Class:
Name of Command:
Input (what you type to your client):
Output (what appears to others in the same room or the specific recipient when specified):
Note that, in your client, the output will read ‘You’ when you are doing a command, though to others it will show your name.
I’ll use my name for the purposes of having an example.
Basic IC Commands:
Say:
Input: Say Hi!
Output: EconomistBrony says, “Hi!’
Pose:
Input: : jumps up and down.
Output: EconomistBrony jumps up and down.
Spoof:
Input: spoof It is a dark and stormy night. EconomistBrony laughs evilly.
Output: It is a dark and stormy night. EconomistBrony laughs evilly.
Basic OOC Commands:
OOC Say:
Input: > Hi!
Output: <OOC> EconomistBrony says, “Hi!”
OOC Pose:
Input: > : jumps up and down.
Output: <OOC> EconomistBrony jumps up and down.
Communication:
Whisper:
Note that this command is a ‘direct’ communication command between two players; it will only be seen by the sending and the receiving player. It can be considered either IC or OOC, depending on the player and the context. It can only be used to communicate with players in the same room as you.
Input: whisper Derpy = Hi!
Output: EconomistBrony whispers, “Hi!” to you.
Again, note that the output only appears on Derpy’s player’s screen. Additionally, if you would like to ‘whisper pose’ simply add : before what you want to pose. For example:
Input: whisper Derpy = :jumps up and down.
Output: EconomistBrony whispers, “EconomistBrony jumps up and down.” to you.
Again, only Derpy will see this.
Page:
Note that this command is a ‘direct’ communication command between two players; it will only be seen by the sending and the receiving player. It almost always considered OOC. It can be used to communicate with any player on the MUCK, regardless of where they are.
Input: page Derpy = Hi!
Output: EconomistBrony pages
Again, note that the output only appears on Derpy’s player’s screen. Additionally, if you would like to ‘page pose’ simply add : before what you want to pose. For example:
Input: page Derpy = :jumps up and down.
Output: In a page-pose to you, EconomistBrony jumps up and down.
Again, only Derpy will see this.
