(Written by our very own Princess Luna)
Diamond Dancer, Star Seeker, Night's Errant, master adventurer, personal servant to Princess Luna herself, and part time elementary school foal, took a moment to contemplate beating her older brother to death with a chunk of meteorite iron. She worked the night shift! Like, that was the whole point! Couldn't he leave the curtains closed! How could she sleep with horrible bright sunshine everywhere?
She flopped over, pulling the blankets over her head.
It didn't help.
Ugh.
Huh?
Diamond opened her eyes. The glow was inside the blankets, right in front of her face. THIS WAS GOING TO MAKE IT HARD TO SLEEP.
Diamond kicked off the blanket. The room was still brightly lit. Oh, come on! The lights were off, the stars were still out (Note to self: Curtains open, meteorite iron, older brother, bludgeoning), the room was as dark as her boss's butt, but STILL brightly lit.
Those two things did not fit together. Dark? Yes. Definitely dark. Black shadows in the corners, but she could see the broken urns on the floor, the dents in the ceiling, make out the stitching on the stuffed manticore from Happy Fun Land in the corner, and even read the little symbols of her many awesome quests on her trophy plaque. She could see really clearly the huge, sparkling silver crescent moon on the only bare stretch of wall not covered in posters or trophies from ancient tombs or her brother's drunken odes to princess butts. A silver moon that glittered like stars, bigger than Diamond herself.
It went away, and the room disappeared. No, it was back. No, it was gone. Click, click, buzz buzz, the freaky lights in Diamond's head went on and off. She bashed a hoof against her ear a couple of times until they settled down and she could see the moon painted on her wall again.
The moon faded, slowly, while the feathers of a huge wing that wasn't there affectionately stroked Diamond's mane. Everything smelled like Princess Luna, like velvet and feathers and cold, dewy grass and earth.
The touch disappeared. The smell disappeared. The moon on Diamond's wall disappeared. Her bedroom remained brightly lit and dark as a cave at the same time.
All right, then. Too tired to get up and shut the curtains, Diamond pulled the blankets back over her head. New problem. The inside of the blankets really were lit up. Diamond's eyes were glowing.
She smacked the side of her head until the light turned off and everything was really actually properly black again. Then Diamond Dancer, Star Seeker, Night's Errant, master adventurer, personal servant to Princess Luna herself, and part time elementary school foal who could SEE IN THE [BUY SOME APPLES] DARK, [BUY SOME APPLES] YEAH, [BUY SOME APPLES]ES went back to sleep.
